Amid a fierce battle, 16-year-old twin brothers, Kye and Kian, stand determined before the cause of their sorrow and anger, the man who destroyed their hometown and mercilessly took their father's life, Rio. Kye, his arm and leg bandaged from earlier fights, grimaces in pain, but his resolve remains. Meanwhile, with a fiery determination burning in his eyes, Kian squares off against Rio, prepared to confront this demon from their past alone.
"Do you know how long I've waited to get my hands on you?" Kian asks.
Rio's laughter, cold and mocking, rings out. "Should I know you, child?"
"You killed my father!"
"I've ended many lives. You'll have to be more specific."
Kian pulls out his sword and engulfs it in flames. "Does the name Nicholas Carter ring a bell?"
A surprised look washes over Rio's face. "Carter?"
"So you do remember."
"Kira Carter. She's your mother?"
Kian's resolve falters at the mention of his mother, and he doesn't respond.
"Is she your mother?"
Kye limps to his brother's side. "And if she is?"
"She has never once mentioned having children to me."
"So it was true…" whispers Kian, the flames of his sword now almost nonexistent.
"Our mom… is alive?" asks Kye.
"Of course, she's alive. If you knew I killed your father, then you'd know her body wasn't in the village. She came with me that day and became my bride."
Stunned into silence, the twins grapple with this earth-shattering revelation. The belief that their mother died alongside their father had been a cornerstone of their grief and motivation for revenge.
"Bullseye!"
Apollo Young, a friend and classmate of the twins, jumps into the air and shoots two arrows toward Rio, who easily blocks them.
"Now!" Apollo commands.
In a well-coordinated effort, two other warriors swoop in, secure the twins, and then retreat to the safety of the backlines.
"It was nice to meet you, my sons!" Rio says, waving goodbye, "I hope to see you again one day."
The twins offer no response as they are taken away from the battlefield.
