William's ears were ringing as he looked at the scene before him. He was somewhere unfamiliar with many people he didn't recognize. Everyone was fighting, humans killing other humans, all kinds of monsters he had never seen before fighting with some of the humans against others backed by angelic figures. A fireball seared past his face so close that he felt some of his facial hair burn up. He felt his face, feeling the stubble that was on it.
Wait, why do I have facial hair? I've never been able to grow it before.
William looked at himself, now noticing that he was wearing some dark armor that would typically be found in the fairy tales his orphanage father would tell him when he was younger. Gripped in his right hand, he finally noticed a massive ebony blade he was holding with ease that had a flesh-like texture scattered over it alongside what seemed to be a closed eye in the middle of the blade. It had an extremely broad blade and looked like it was made for giants and not a regular man.
What's going on here?
"Get your head out of your ass!"
William turned to find the gruff voice shouting at him coming from some reptilian man. Before William could respond, he watched as the lizard man who had been trying to get him to pay attention to the battlefield was incinerated from his own miss-step. A fire had covered his body and turned him into ashes at an unbelievable speed. Not even a scale was left. Not wanting to meet the same end, William tried to become aware of his surroundings just in time to see a flash of silver as a blade was slicing towards him.
Zoom! A hissing sound was heard by William as an object flew past his head and directly into the knight who was attacking him, stopping him cold in his tracks. William looked in the direction where the arrow had come from where he saw a man with blue markings spread throughout his face and long sharp ears nod at him before he started targeting other people with his bow.
"Ralgar! We've gotta retreat; they knew we were attacking today! This is going to be a massacre if we don't pull our troops out". This time the voice came from a woman with jet black hair and horns coming out of her forehead. She looked elegant as she was deadly, with her dark robes and golden breastplate. She continued to incinerate the soldiers around her with black lightning shooting out of her hands. He noticed she had a spiky tail that was frantically shaking behind her as she attempted to hold off the attackers as her allies fled behind her. "Ralgar! Watch Out!" She cried out as a golden glowing lance flew into her, impaling her down into the earth below her. She reached out her hands in the direction William was standing as she spat out blood before her eyes rolled back.
William began to panic as he looked for where the spear had been launched from as he saw a woman clad in bright white armor approach him slowly. She had imposing wings covered in brilliant white feathers behind her as she walked toward him, her long blonde hair moving with the wind and covering her facial features. When she got close enough, William was confused but also relieved. The face of the person who was approaching him belongs to his best friend, Sam.
"Sam, I don't know what's going on, but I'm so glad to see you. We've gotta get out of here!". William knew for sure it had to be Sam; they had grown up together and been best friends since childhood, but Sam was a woman now for some reason. The Sam he knew as of yesterday was still a male as far as he was concerned. William ran over to Sam as she held out an arm as if reaching out to him. William got closer and closer until he noticed that Sam's eyes were lifeless and not the same bright blue he had grown too known over the years.
"Sam…?" A searing pain spread throughout his body as he looked down to see the same spear that had killed the woman before had now ruptured a hole in his midsection. Blood began to spill out his mouth as he coughed. His entire body was feeling heavy as he slumped to his knees. "….Sam, why?" William uttered the words one more time as his eyes began to close. The last thing he saw was Sam holding the spear in one arm before plunging it towards his head.
"No!" William cried out as he awoke in his bed, drenched in sweat. He pulled up his shirt to check his midriff to find everything still intact.
It must have been some kind of nightmare…It felt so real though
He sighed as he hopped out of his bed and walked towards the mirror in his room where he kept a bucket of water poured from the night before and a rag to wash his face. He washed his face, and he looked into the mirror and sighed in relief as it was the same young face he had went to sleep with the night before and not the older one he felt in his dream. He moved his shaggy brown hair out of his face as he heard a voice shout to him from below.
