The Last Survivors (Among The Legends)

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Jul 24, 2026

A woman was walking silently on the street when she mistakenly missed her step and fell hard on the floor, creating a noise. A wild beast came from nowhere, devouring the woman as she screamed loudly. The beast killed her, eating her flesh as if it were meat, sucking her blood, and cracking her bones. As it left her bones and skull littering the floor in the cold night, her scream sounded so loudly that the villagers were aware that someone had met her death.

This village is located in the far middle of nowhere, surrounded by grass and waters (seas and rivers). The name of the village is called the Truth. If you want to survive in this village of the Truth, then there is no other remedy than being silent as the graveyard itself.

I, your humble author, lived there, and my name is Caleb Parker. I have a sister, Abigeal, and parents. We use signs to communicate with each other, even though few of us are learned. There is a library in the village where all sorts of books are available - books to educate you about English, Math, Science, Literatures, History, and a lot more. Most parents banned their children from going there because of the fear that their kids may make noise and end up being devoured. But my father never did anything like that. As I am talking to you now, I have read almost all the books in the library, same as my sisters. I stopped going there when I was 16 years old, and right now, I am 18 years old. My junior sister was just 14 years old then and is now 16.

Flashing back to the past, I remember vividly how my older sister died. Both my sister and I went to the library to read. Let me describe her for you. My senior sister is about 5 feet tall, chocolate in complexion, beautiful, and a jovial person. She is always full of smiles, as everybody in the village loves her so much. Not only because she is jovial and accommodating, but because she is giving. She gave a lot to people, things that I, myself, can't give like her. We both walked into the Library, checked out some books, and sat down to read them. Just as we were reading, the chair she was sitting on broke, and she fell hard to the floor. The beast appeared from nowhere and devoured my sister right in front of me as I watched in horror. My sister looked at me and gave me the "don't make noise" look. She also gave me a weak smile as she was being devoured completely right in front of me after she screamed loudly from the pain. Oh heaven, I looked at the remnant of my sister - just bones and skull - and I wept silently.

Since that day, I have stopped going there, even though my father did not stop me. I only go there mainly because of my junior sister, in case she needs a book. And when I go there, I always weep because the memory of what happened to my sister has left a huge scar in my heart and also scars in the heart of my Family.

I remember back when my sister was still alive; we would go around the village looking for an escape route out of this village. We would play hide-and-seek games in the underground of our house. We would write our names on the floor and share a fruit my daddy gave us together (to pluck a fruit, you will have to stay far away from the tree and throw a stick at the fruit; then the beast will attack the stick, and once it's gone, you take the fruit). This beast is an animal with green blood that invaded this great village a very long time ago for a reason. This beast has one problem in common: they can't see, but their ears are as sensitive as something I can't explain. They can locate you if you mistakenly kill a mosquito on your body. That's to show how much we are suffering.

Back to the present: We had just finished our dinner when we heard a scream from afar off. And right there, I communicated with my father by signs.

Me (in signs): Another person has fallen victim to the beast.

Mr. Parker (in signs): Yes, you are right.

Mrs. Parker (in signs): It is only God who will help us.

Abigeal (in signs): We are just living with the fear that anybody can die anytime. Mum, I am scared.

My mother moved closer to my sister and comforted her as she wept silently. I stood up from the chair and moved as silently as possible to my own room.

In the night, something was noticed flying on the rooftop of every house, generating noise. Screaming and whining started coming from wild beasts as it made them alarmed.

To be continued.

General Narration

In the year 1960

When the beasts first invaded, there was a hot war between the beasts and the warriors of the Truth. The king and his men fought hard with the beasts, but the beasts were able to overpower them, killing them all, including the king, because the more beasts you kill, the more they multiply.

Thousands of people lost their lives as they were bathed and crushed in their own blood. People tried to run out of the village, but they hadn't gone far before they met their end. It was later, when many others had died, that an old man was able to notice that the beast was harmless without a noise. He was able to communicate this to his fellow villagers in signs, even though it was very difficult to do so. The man also made them understand that the beast couldn't see anybody because it was as good as blind. From that day on, the villagers lived in silence and fear, as they kept on decreasing in population until the villagers became very scanty. This was a result of those who made noise and met their end.

Silence is the only way to survive.

In the once-peaceful Land of Truth, blind beasts hunt by sound, vampires lurk in the shadows, and every sunrise could be the last. After his sister is kidnapped and his father is brutally murdered, Caleb discovers that an ancient sword has chosen him for a destiny far greater than survival.

With only a handful of survivors left, Caleb must battle bloodthirsty vampires, monstrous beasts, cursed kings, and dark secrets buried for generations. Alongside his fearless sister, Abigeal, and the mysterious Linda, he embarks on a dangerous journey where every choice could mean life... or extinction.

Heroes are not born, they are forged through pain.

When the last survivors stand against the darkness, who will remain alive to tell the story?
