May is the youngest child of a family of powerful assassins. Her father, who is the assassin clan leader, sends her to kill a young prince one day. The clan has been holding a grudge against the prince and his ancestors for a very long time. She accepts the orders because to her, killing is nothing new.

On the night of her mission, May infiltrates the target's castle. She walks down the corridor that leads to the prince's room using shadow magic to hide in the dark. She opens the door with quiet subtlety. As expected, she perceives a young man asleep in his luxurious bed. It is the young prince. Against all expectations, the prince wakes up and starts coughing. May quickly hides using her magic.

The young assassin is startled when the prince suddenly speaks up. "It's alright, you do not have to hide," he says gently. May, baffled asks, "How can you see me?! I use shadow magic!" The prince replies, "I am the white prince, Fantasio Luxior. I can see through the darkness." May is on her guard now. "What will you do? Call your soldiers?" she asks aggressively. Fantasio smiles. "No," he replies, "I don't have much time left anyway." The prince starts coughing again. But this time, red demonic eyes appear in the shadows of the room. May pulls out her daggers but prince Fantasio interrupts her. "Don't worry... They won't harm you. They've come for me..." he says heavily. But May still fights and kills all the demons. She catches her breath.

The prince is surprised. "Why did you protect me?" he asks. "Didn't you come to kill me?" he adds. May tells him, "I could not let those demons prey on the sick. And I can't imagine myself killing an ill person." The young prince smiles at her gently and asks her, "What is your name, girl?" The assassin states, "My name is May." Fantasio looks at May, unable to get up from his bed and says, "Then, thank you May. From the bottom of my heart..." An angel slowly appears by Fantasio's side. She holds his hand as Fantasio closes his eyes, disappearing with her into small particles of light. One tear rolls down May's cheek.

After returning to the assassins' guild, May's father asks her, "Did you kill him?" May replies, "No, father. He died on his own." May's father smiles through his shrouded face. "Sometimes, fate does the job for you. I'm proud of you for not following my orders... my little shadow assassin."
