Nova paced back and forth in the back of the room.
“Please I can get you the money by tomorrow please I just need a little more time!” Peterson begged as he looked frantically around the room trying to find an exit.
“Peterson, that's the same false promise you've given us the last three times. I think we've been generous enough.” Nova said in a threatening tone as she froze in front of him facing the wall.
“No please I'll do anything!” Peterson begged as he got down on his knees.
“Then give me the money you owe us now.” Nova said as she placed her hands on her hips. She could feel him shift uncomfortably behind her, she laughed lightly on the inside she knew he was terrified.
“B-b-but that's impossible! I-i-i don't have it!” Peterson said frantically.
“I thought you said you'd do anything?” Nova mocked him.
“Please!” Peterson said meekly. Nova sighed as she turned around and walked calmly over to him. Nova grabbed his face and forced him to look into her eyes, his drab grey eyes were filled with fear.
“One thing you should know about me… I. Hate. Begging.” Nova growled as she threw his face out of her hand and walked away.
“Oh thank you! Thank you!” Peterson sobbed as she stopped in the doorway.
Nova just rolled her eyes, they always had that shred of hope. It was stupid really, a false promise. Nova in one swift motion whipped her gun out of her holster and shot without even turning around. Nova felt a smirk tug at the corner of her lips as she heard Peterson's body crumple to the ground.
“Bullseye.” Nova whispered as she turned and saw the bullet had hit him right between the eyes. Nova shoved her gun back into its holster as she walked out of the room, the door swinging closed behind her.
“Wow, perfect shot, Like usual.” Edward laughed as she walked to their group. They had only been a group for a few weeks. They got along, for the most part, she knew a few of them before they were placed in a team together. Alfred was the oldest at 22, Barnaby was next at 21, then Amy at 20, Chris was 19, Edward was 18, and Nova herself was 17. The rest were training to join their group, Ruby and Fletcher were the oldest of them at 17, then Malorie and Chadwick were 16. Rigby who was 21 was technically an honorary member of their group but he had not come with them on this mission. Their group looked like something you would see in a superhero show, except they were no superheroes not even close. They all looked so different from what you would expect it was almost comical. Alfred was the tallest of all of them being 6,2 or 6,3 and towering over most of them. Alfred had light brown hair that had a slight wave to it, chiseled features that made him look like a model, and hazel gray eyes to compliment his features and popped against his tan skin. He had a slight stubble coming in and she knew he had forgotten to shave. He was handsome she had to admit but he was basically her older brother, she had known him the longest except for Fletcher. Fletcher was around 5,6 and kept saying he was still growing, Fletcher had dark brown hair that was always kept fluffy and untamed on the top of his head, his hair was almost comically dark compared to his pale skin, his blue eyes always set in a caring way complementing the freckles scattered across his nose. He did have some muscle too him, the only one who looked like he didn't exercise or train was Chadwick. Chadwick was muscular but compared to the others he looked scrawny and compared to Fletcher he was even paler somehow. Chadwick stood at about 5,7 and always insisted he was taller than he was, he had dirty blond hair and an ego that was bigger than he was, his eyes were a murky green that had always reminded Nova of vomit, though she never told him that it was Ruby’s problem to look at not hers. Ruby was Chadwick's girlfriend and what she saw in him Nova would never know, she didn't think Ruby knew why she was dating him either. Ruby was around 5,4 her Ginger hair framed her face perfectly, helping her blue eyes pop and somewhat hiding her freckles that sweetly covered her face that could barely be seen against her tan skin. Malorie was Ruby’s best friend. She was around 5,1, possibly 5,2, she was a bit chunkier than the rest of them but it suited her. Malorie had slightly wavy dark hair Nova could never tell if it was brown or black, which was cut short. Blue-green eyes suited her perfectly. “Great Job Roulette.” Edward congratulated her again as she rolled her eyes. Edward had always tried, the way he put it to help her, Nova didn't need his help but he gave it to her anyway even if it was stroking her ego that she never used. Edward was around 5’9 to 6’1 and his dark brown hair complemented his light brown skin perfectly. His brown eyes helped complement his features. He was at least better looking and a better person than his brother Chris was. Chris was around 5,8 to 5,9 and hated that Edward was taller than him, had dirty blonde hair that helped his green eyes look less murky. He had a beard coming in but it was patchy and Nova thought he might as well just shave it off.
“I bet I could have done better, just make sure you have a wide firm stance next time Nova.” Chadwick said, smirking at her.
“Hey captain ego, we're supposed to be using code names you dumbass.” Alfred said smacking Chadwick in the head.
Amy sighed as she glared at Chadwick and Alfred. Amy was around 5,4 and had light brown hair that she kept in a ponytail or up, her green eyes complimented her features along with the hint of kindness behind her lips that made her seem like she was almost close to smiling. Barnaby on the other hand was more nervous than the others. He was around 5,9-6,1 and he had brown hair that he kept slicked back, he was muscular but held himself closely making him seem like a nervous teddy bear almost. As for herself, she didn't look in the mirror often, there was no point. She knew her copper hair shimmered in the light making it almost impossible for stealth, she knew her eyes were bright blue and stood out against any color, luckily her freckles were sort of hidden against her tan skin. She knew her face was always in a cold, hard even stare.
“Let's just go already our mission here’s done.” Nova sighed as Ruby was making sure Chadwick was alright.
“You’re absolutely right Roulette, why don't we head back to the base and we can have a little celebration!” Chris said sarcastically as he pushed himself off the wall.
“Oh shut it Backlash, nobody wants to deal with your sarcastic attitude.” Edward said, scolding his brother.
“ see you guys back at the base.” Nova sighed as she walked away from them without waiting to listen to them telling her to come back.
“Great, you made her leave. I swear it's gonna take me hours to find her!” Alfred sighed as Nova ran out the doors. Nova sighed and breathed in the cool autumn air as she walked out of the building.
She was glad their mission was over, now all she had to deal with was everyone's crap. Nova leaped off the stairs and landed on the sidewalk, there was no point in walking down the stairs when she could just jump. Nova quickly jogged over to her motorcycle and jumped on, she knew Alfred would be close behind her. He hated it when she left and didn't tell him at least where she was going. Nova quickly started her bike and began to drive off as Alfred ran out of the building. Nova let a small smile across her lips as she saw Alfred in her rearview mirror. She knew he was upset and she was in for it later, but at least for now, it was just her and the road.
Nova parked her bike outside of what looked like a rundown bar, a small sign out front that said “Luigi's” in red letters that were barely noticeable unless you knew where it was. Nova almost smiled as she walked into the building. Luigi’s was a fixed-up speakeasy for mafia’s and their clients, their group were regulars here.
“Hey, Luigi.” Nova said as she sat at the bar, Luigi’s eyes lit up and he saw her. Luigi had lost his voice in a shootout when he was six, but he and Nova had always gotten along fine. Alfred always said that Luigi kind of looked like a buffer, younger version of Chef Boyardee. Nova could kind of see it, except for Luigi's hair was black. Luigi ran around the counter and hugged her, Nova stiffened at his touch and debated different ways to get him off of her. Luigi let go of her and smiled as he quickly wrote something on his pad of paper. Luigi was only this way with her, too everyone else he was cold or just barely tolerated them. Nova looked down as Luigi handed her a piece of paper. Nova rolled her eyes as she read it. “You actually let me hug you this time.” The paper read. Nova just rolled her eyes and gave him a weak smile.
“yeah, yeah.” Nova said as he patted her on the head and walked back behind the counter. Luigi talked to her in sign language as he poured her a drink. Nova gladly accepted the drink as she vaguely tried to pay attention to what Luigi was telling her.
“Young lady! You are in so much trouble!” Alfred shouted slightly joking as he walked into the bar.
“Oh, I'm sorry dad I didn't realize you were in charge of me.” Nova said sarcastically as Alfred walked over to her laughing and sat next to her.
“Where are the others?” Nova asked as Luigi handed Alfred a beer.
“Thanks, man, and they went back to the base I assume.” Alfred said as Luigi nodded to him and walked off. “Charming fellow isn't he?” Alfred chuckled exaggerating his British accent.
Nova just shook her head, Alfred had a slight British accent when he talked but it was only noticeable if you paid attention or he exaggerated it. “Well didn't think we’d run into you here.” Edward chuckled as he walked in with the others following behind.
“Taking the kindergarteners on a field trip are we?” Alfred chuckled as he realized only Fletcher, Chadwick, Malorie and Ruby were with him.
“Shut up old man. Don't you have a floor to clean up or something?” Fletcher chuckled.
“Hmm yes, I believe I do sir and I’ll do it with your ass.” Alfred said exaggerating his accent again as he playfully pushed Fletcher.
“Getting drunk already Alfred? It's only 5 o'clock.” Edward said sitting at the bar with them.
“Never too early for beer.” Alfred laughed as he raised his beer in the air.
“Go ahead and sit wherever guys, order what you want, put it on my tab.” Edward said to the group, still standing awkwardly.
“Except Chadwick sweety no alcohol, we don't need your daddy calling and complaining.” Edward joked as Chadwick's face turned bright red and he stormed off.
“Aww, poor baby.” Alfred chuckled as the others followed him.
“Why do we keep him around?” Nova asked as she downed the rest of her drink, the warmth spreading through her body.
“Honestly he’s fun to mess with, and besides we can't just get rid of him.” Alfred sighed at the thought of having to keep Chadwick around.
“The kids got a temper, can't even take a joke.” Edward sighed as he looked over at Ruby trying to calm Chadwick down.
“Nova wanna go for a round of darts?” Alfred asked, holding up one of the darts.
“You just wanna pretend you're drunk and hit Chadwick with one don't you?” Nova asked as Luigi refiled her drink.
“More than anything!” Alfred laughed, handing her the dart.
“Alright fine.” Nova sighed as she downed the drink and threw the dart at the target. The corner of her lips curled into a slight smile as she heard the hollow thunk of the dark landing dead center on the target.
“Your turn.” Nova said as the slight smile disappeared. Alfred gave her a crazy stupid smile as he chucked the dart at Chadwick. Before the dart even reached the group Luigi plucked the dart from the air.
“Oh come on Luigi! His dad’s a doctor! He’d have been fine.” Alfred grumbled as Luigi shook his head and threw the dart at the target, landing it dead center by the dart Nova had thrown a few seconds ago. Nova nodded her head at Luigi as he smiled at her then returned to behind the counter.
“Is Rigby gonna join us tonight?” Nova asked as Alfred glanced at the ring on his finger.
“Yeah, he’ll be here later. Soren’s making him work right now.” Alfred sighed, rolling his eyes.
“I hate that guy, honestly anyone could be a better boss. I don't even know how that guy even got to be a mafia boss other than it was passed down to him.” Alfred said as he grabbed another beer.
“Let's keep the whole I hate my boss talk quiet shall we?” Nova said as she looked around the room.
“Sorry, I just wish somebody would kill that guy. He’s been hurting Rigby….Rigby doesn't say anything but I know he doesn't get those bruises from falling.” Alfred sighed, hanging his head. Nova knew he couldn't do anything about it or they would kill Rigby.
“Hey Rigby’s a trooper he’ll be alright and besides he's got you to comfort and care for him and the rest of us looking out for him.” Nova said hating how sappy the words sounded coming out of her mouth.
“Yeah, I just hope he’s alright.” Alfred mumbled, Nova could tell her words made him feel at least a little better. She had to admit she hoped Rigby was alright as well even if they didn't talk very much, and she was going to do something about it.
