It’s been quite a while since the last time Adelmo had anything to do with Vampires and Werewolves. To be exact, it has been nearly five months since the last encounter. He wondered what happened to them all. They seemed to all vanish the day Adelmo felt he had full control of his abilities. He knew one of two things would have happened, but he had no idea which one it would have been.
Now that this length of time had passed, he realized that these abominations were fearful of their lives. What he didn’t expect was for them to have disappeared for such a long time. It’s been nice not having to worry about anything too difficult lately. The feeling of having a normal life again has been nice, even though all of it was really exciting. He was sure the time would come again that people would need him for whatever reason, but until then he had a book store to run.
Adelmo was going about his day at his store; he looked across the room at Lana. Watching her gracefully move throughout the store working, realizing how much he actually cared about her. He fears, that if he gets involved with her, that it might cloud his judgment. What his purpose was in this world that he had newly discovered?
He also figured if they weren’t involved there would be no reason for any of these abominations to attack her to try and get to him. Adelmo went to the back room for a second to grab some books he had in storage. He saw the books he was looking for in a couple of small little stacks. He grabbed them and one of the books fell off the stack. Hitting a piece of paper which was lying on the table. Noticing the paper was knocked to the floor, wondering where it came from. He picks it up and starts reading it.
Every so many years, a person who seems to come from nowhere, yet claims she was sent from god, takes on the task of cleaning up the corrupt. Whenever this person appears, the air is filled with a plague. This plague is only transferred through the air and to only those that are truly corrupt, deviant souls can be infected. When one of the corrupt becomes infected, they transform into the walking dead, more commonly known as a zombie. The people whose souls are predestined to become, for example, a vampire or werewolf are immune to this infectious plague.
This plague is a form of crowd control. Whenever there are too many corrupted souls in a certain area in the world, no one is quite sure how many must be corrupt; for this messenger to be sent baring a plague that will wipe out those masses. Although it is a plague, it is allowing us to get rid of the ones that will only corrupt other souls if they continue to live on. Only the genuine and strong will survive.
Adelmo took the paper out of the back room to Lana. Adelmo asked her, “Do you know where this came from?”
Lana replies, “Let me see it.”
She grabs it and looks over it. She then said, “No clue, I have never seen this before,”
With a puzzled look on her face.
Adelmo grabbed that piece of paper back and tried to figure out where it came from. He scanned over the paper again trying to find some distinct marks to give him any kind of clue where it came from. He turns it to the back side and looks over it closely.
He noticed a marking in the lower right-hand corner that looked like a little shield that is black and white, resembling a face. A moon is placed as a mouth, a star on the right side as an eye and on the other side is a harp. Surrounding the shield, what looks like hair with horns at the top. He had seen this before but wasn’t sure where. He starts going through more of his stuff, trying to see if he has this mark on any other stuff in his back room.
He couldn’t seem to find anything, feeling a bit confused. He tried not to worry about it too much, figuring that something would come up about where it came from.
He took it back out to Lana one last time to ask if she had ever seen this mark before. She responds, “I have not seen that before, but the marking resembles a crest symbol.”
Adelmo thought about it being a crest symbol, but whose?
He then asked Lana if she saw anything to do with this marking to let him know. He then folds it and puts it in his pocket, so he can try and figure it out later.
Adelmo went back into the back room to grab the books to put them where they needed to be throughout the store. Noticing one by one as he was putting the books away, they all had to do with zombies.
Adelmo asks Lana, “When and why did we get so many books about zombies,” with a puzzled look on his face.
Lana responds, “We haven’t received any books about zombies in a really long time.”
Adelmo felt even more confused, almost like something or maybe even someone was trying to tell him something. He goes back and grabs the books he had just put away, looking at the covers and notices the same marking on the letter is on one of those books, then looking through the rest of them, sees they all have that same marking.
Adelmo couldn’t figure out what was going on, but he was surely convinced that someone was trying to tell him something. When grabbing all the books, he returns to the back room and sat down at the table looking at the books, trying to figure out what was the meaning for the paper as well as the books that seemed to be dropping into his lap.
Skimming through each book, trying to figure out what is going on, he notices certain things were underlined out of each book. When reading the underlined passages, he noticed that they were similar if not identical to what was written on the paper.
The question would now be, are they just notes or is there something more to what is on the paper and in these books, are they related somehow?
He put the books down and sat back and started thinking about everything he learned from his grandfather. He tried to figure out if there is anything to do with zombies, remembering that he has a book having to do with all the abominations in the world. He was getting more and more eager to just leave and check out that book to see if anything resembled what he had just read.
The thought popped into his mind that made him wonder if there was a crest symbol on the journal that was given to him. He figured it could wait till tonight to look more into it. Nothing serious is happening to make it so urgent to figure any of this out right now.
Adelmo hears the phone ring from the store; Lana picks it up and answers it with a cheerful voice.
“You have reached Madison’s Knowledge. How can I help you today?”
She paused and then spoke in response to the person on the phone, “Yes ma'am, let me go get him for you.” Lana put the person on hold and went to get Adelmo.
Lana tells Adelmo, “The phone is for you.”
Adelmo replies, “Thank you,” he grabs the phone. “Hello, this is Adelmo. What can I do fo.”
The lady on the other end cuts Adelmo off in an urgent manner, “Did you receive the books and my note?”
Adelmo replied with a confused look on his face, “Um. Yes, I have the books and notes, but who is this?”
The lady replied promptly, “Good, there is going to be a serious problem that is going to arise soon. You need to be prepared.”
Adelmo replied. “Where, when?”
The lady responded, “You will know when the time gets closer to where you will need to be. Just get yourself prepared.” She then hung up before Adelmo could ask any more questions.
Adelmo felt very confused. “Who was this person? Why was she warning me about something that hasn’t happened yet? Is she plotting something or does she know just as much as my family does?”
So many unanswered questions.
