“Fuck you too.” I smirk, waiting for my punishment. “Chain him up.” I sigh, my wrists and ankles being chained to the wall, a collar around my neck. They injuries from my earlier fight hurt like hell. Not like they care. My wings are uncomfortably digging into my back. All because I didn’t do what I was supposed to. Oh well, I could give less of a shit.
Better than listening to the stupid kids crying over a small scratch. I mean, I can’t listen to it in general because this is my room but… ugh there is no ‘bright’ side. I groan when the guy comes back. Yippity do dah. My favorite. Marcus. He unchains my arms. This is more uncomfortable. “Could you- “I gasp in pain as something digs into my stomach.
Oh my god this hurts to badly. I can’t curl up either. Asshole. I scream ten minutes later. This feels like the hundredth time that he has whipped me. Except he has torn up my stomach. He unhooks the chain to my collar, allowing me to drop to the floor, exhausted. I’m covered in blood and sweat along with dirt from years of not taking a proper shower.
Their ideas of a shower is pouring rainwater over us. Not fun. Marcus drags me out of the room a few hours later, the blood on my body dried. I’m thrown in the back. It’s a small grass area but there is barbed wire and a roof made of chicken wire. I groan, my muscles sore from being curled up. Marcus splashes the water over me.
I wince when he drags me back to the room, putting the chains back on my collar and ankles. “Fuck you.” I spit out, right before he leaves. The door slams harder than normal. I curl up again, the chains clinking. It’s dark in my cell when they leave. There is not any light for me to use. My eyes have adjusted to not knowing.
Something scurries by. Most likely a spider, roach, or bug of some sort. I learned to not be scared anymore when living here. They mostly leave me down here, occasionally punishing me. The fights are more than enough punishment. The grimy floor is stone. Most people get beds but I’m on the lower level. That means I’m underground and no bed.
I haven’t slept in years. I mean I have slept but actual uninterrupted sleep that lets my body heal a bit fast? Hah that’s as rare as showers around here. My wrists, neck, and ankles have scarring from the endless collars and chains being put on my body. They have also tied my torso up so that’s scarred from terrible rope burn scars.
I roll over when the door creaks open. That’s a new one. They normally slam it open. My eyes widen. The hallway is empty. The entire underground area is quiet. That’s not normal. There is normally at least some movement or guards talking. I shut my eyes. It must be a dream. I roll back over, staring at the lightened wall. It has my dried blood on it.
Most of my room has at least of my own blood on it. I made it mine. Just kidding, I’ve been thrown a lot. My body relaxes, happy Marcus isn’t here now. My eyes close once more, finally falling asleep.
The sleep doesn’t last long. I wake up to voices talking. Unfamiliar voices at that. I groan, rolling over. “HE’S AWAKE. JULE HE’S AWAKE.” I sit up, startled and fully awake now. “What- who the fuck are you?” I snarl. “Bee, step away.” The person who shouted backs away. I glare, confused and scared. That’s covered up of course.
“Where’s Marcus?” “Dead.” “Like actually dead? Really dead?” I ask quickly. The guy steps out of the shadows. “Yes, he is dead. Very dead.” I notice the blood on his clothes. “Okay… but why are you here?” “To save you silly!” A boy answers. I’m guessing he is Jule. “I’m Jay. That is Jule. The girl is Bee.” Jule has dog ears instead of human ones.
He also has a tail that is wagging rapidly. His skin is a golden-brown color. Surprisingly his eyes are bright blue. Bee has long black hair with a foxlike face. Her skin olive toned, with grey eyes. I study Jay. He has wings, dragon wings to be exact. His tail flits around a bit behind him. His eyes are bright green, his body also tanned like Jule.
“What’s your name?” “None of your business.” I growl. “We are here to help you.” Jay says in an annoyed tone. I stand up, my chains clinking. Bee’s eyes trail down to my most recent wounds. “Yes, and I’m a human.” I say mockingly. Jay grits his teeth. “Do you at least want something for the wounds?” “No. They will heal.” I mumble.
“Do you want to be out of the chains?” “Oh nooo. I love these you know. Such a fashion statement. YES, I WANT OUT OF THE CHAINS DUMBASS.” Jule chuckles. “I like him Jay.” “I don’t.” He growls. “Just get these dumb chains off me please.” “Oh, is that politeness I hear?” Jay hisses in my ear. “No. I hear a jackass who won’t let me free.”
Jay grabs a fistful of my hair before pushing my body into the wall. “Watch where you tread kid.” Jay hisses. “I’m not a kid.” I grunt, grabbing his wrist closest to me and swiftly making it so he’s the one on the wall. “I’m almost twenty. So please, go on.” Jay grunts, his face mushed against the grimy wall. I let him go.
“Take off the chains.” Jay doesn’t sound to happy saying that. The shackles fall off my ankles and the collar clatters to the floor a few seconds later. I rub my neck, happy to have the collar off after all these years. “Can you please come with us?” Jule begs as I stalk out the door. “No.” “Why not?” He pouts. “Because I am not going any where with him.” I motion to Jay.
“I also want to travel places.” I walk out into the arena. “Jay you are- who is this?” Someone who looks like an identical copy of Jule asks. This one is a female though. “This is a person we found in the lowest level. Last one we found too.” Bee explains. “He pushed Jay against the wall. Our Jay!” Jule exclaims. I step into the ring where I would fight.
“Well, we need to clear the place out. May wants to make it a storage facility.” The girl says. “Luce come here.” Jule calls, peering out the window. I turn my gaze away from the ring, walking to the back door and pushing it open. Oh my god it’s been a long time. I step out onto the grass. The sky is blue, clouds floating by.
People told me about the world outside. I never really got to see it. Then the bathed me outside. The first time was the weirdest experience I ever had. The grass was new to my feet and the sky was unheard of. I look at the sky in awe still. My wings flap, lifting me off the ground. For once I can fly. I let out a yell of joy, flipping and diving with my wings.
It’s like an instinct. I chuckle, perching on a tree. This is the weirdest feeling, being free. I never thought this could happen. I swoop downwards, tumbling down onto the ground. “Fly often?” Jay asks. I glare up at him. He has a stupid smirk on his face that I want to punch off. Maybe even put him in a coma. Wait no that’s to mean. I must not put people in comas. Even if they are annoying and need to shut up. “Interesting landing technique you have there.” He is still taunting me. “Oh, shut up will you.” I growl. Jay chuckles. “You know I’m teasing right? Flying can be hard for babies.” I tackle him. “YOU SHITFACE.” I yell. Jay grabs my wrists, flipping us.
“Mmm well it’s a pity your personality is shit.” “That’s lovely. I could care less. I want to go now.” Jay smirks. “Nah. I’m gonna bring you back and make you pretty.” I narrow my eyes. “Excuse me?” “You can come with me. I’ll get you to a healthy weight… more clothes, and a haircut. All the flying you want.” “You were gonna kill me like nearly twenty minutes ago.”
“I wasn’t. I just wanted to fuck with you.” He grins, pulling me up. I roll my eyes. Good lord this guy is weird. “So, are you in? Wanna come back to our HQ and have fun?” I cross my arms. “No chains? Shackles? Fighting to the death? Punishments?” “No, no, no, and no.” I shrug. “Sure. Not like I have anywhere to go.”
Jay claps his hands, grabbing my hand a pulling me through the only home I ever knew to a giant car. It stops soon, dropping us off at a huge house. I stare at it, dumbfounded. Jay pulls me inside. I don’t know what a lot of things are, and I have a limited vocabulary. Basic words the people would talk about. I know what a TV is. I used to escape sometimes and see it in the storefronts.
They put an end to my escaping. “Okay so this is my room.” My eyes widen. His room is fucking huge. “Wait hold on, we need to fix your stomach.” I look down, wincing at how bad they look. “Do they hurt?” Jay asks, rubbing something on them. I shrug. “No.” They sting a bit before he bandages my torso up. “Well, follow me to your room. I don’t want to be bothered by you anymore.”
I chuckle. “What?” “Nothing, I just knew it would happen. You could care less about me.” Something flashes in his eyes as he stiffens. I can’t describe it though. Jay leads me down to the end of the hallway where the room is about the same size as his. “This is your room.” It’s bare but you know, I’ll change that. I’m also going to make Jay not as mad all the time.
Yes, that seems like a good idea. Make this room my own and force Jay to be nice to me. I kind of like him. He is cute too. Except I won’t date him. Not at all. I won’t even confess because love is for people who are begging to get hurt. I lay on the bed, immediately falling asleep.
