In the Veridian Empire, during the noble children's coming of age ceremony, there has been this long standing tradition that was like a public secret. Everyone is aware of it, but they don't talk about it. The coming of age ceremony is a ball conducted by the royal family to introduce the heirs and heiresses of each household officially in the society. It would be their social debut. But in reality, it's like a matchmaking party. Because the tradition is that, the first person you ask to dance regardless of gender is a declaration of interest, whether expressing your intention to marry out of convenience or professing your love. Regardless, that's how most people marry second to arranged marriage. Princess Genevieve "Jenny" de Valois is fifth in line to the throne so she was able to live her life more freely than the other siblings. She started training to be a knight in hopes of supporting her four older brothers in governing the empire in the future. However, she concealed her identity as a royal in the knightage due to fear of rejection. She wanted to be treated as an equal by her peers. Especially since it is still not common for a woman to become a knight. As a fast learner and a hard worker that she was, it became easy for them to open up and be close to her. Afterall, who would've known she would possess such talent in sword fighting. She was indeed very skilled to the point you will never see it coming that she's a princess. Regardless of how unbelievable it is, she's also very "princessy" in her princess mode showing excellent grace and elegance. The royal siblings rarely appear in social events due to their duties and responsibilities as they assist their parents in state affairs to prepare for succession. The emperor equally gave her four older brothers the right to prove themselves worthy and compete to be the crown prince. Princess Jenny gave up her right to the throne as she believes that her brothers will do better and because she looks up to their healthy sibling rivalry. So the citizens barely know what she looks like and only know her to be a good person. Among her peers, Eugenius "Eugene" Howard, a son of a count is especially close to her. By close I mean not as friends but in a cat and dog relationship. They always compete for the number one spot since academy days until the captain position of the white knight order. For the record, Eugene won most of the time and of course became the captain. Fair enough, she thought. He won fair and square. By the way, there are four knight orders in the Veridian Empire and The Ivory Aspirants (white knight order) is the entry level of the other three knight orders which was formed to recruit young knights in hopes of developing and nurturing their skills and talents starting at a young age. After the coming of age ceremony, they can either stay as an instructor in the knight order or apply to the three other knight orders. The Royal Sapphire Guard (blue knight order) are the palace guards which mostly protect the members of the royal family. The Scarlet Shield (red knight order) are scattered around the empire to protect the citizens. And lastly, The Obsidian Vanguard (black knight order) which most of the youngsters goal to be accepted in are the ones who defend the empire from foreign enemies and monsters surrounding the forest mountains and nearby nations. Princess Jenny is training to one day lead the whole knight order and become the Supreme Commander. And currently, she's assessing who among her peers are capable and trusthworthy enough to join hands and work along side with her in this mission. And out of everyone, it is Eugene she puts her trust the most. Even though they grew up like cats and dogs, they built enough trust and high respect for each other. They don't argue like that anymore but they also rarely talk unless work is involve. They were not close enough to be friends. He was just a guy she knows. She is just a girl he knows. An acquaintance. Little did the both of them know that they harbor mutual feelings for each other. Princess Jenny is now age 17 while Eugene is age 20. In a year they will both have their coming of age ceremony in which feelings and identities will be revealed and challenges and obstacles to overcome.
This was one of my initial story boards that I wanted to write. Most of the story ideas I had were in a modern setting. The typical japanese shoujo manga trope (high school, college romance). But I after I came across and became fond of rofan (romance fantasy, a korean manhwa genre), I wanted to try and produce that type of story. As of the moment, this is the only rofan story I have. One friday on the third week of October during my 25th year, I finally started writing this story after having a chat with my superior at work about publishing my writing. I already shared some of it to her verbally before. But I wanted to share a story to her with my own writing that's why I pulled out my phone, opened my rusty ole notes, scrolled through my story boards, and I finally chose this as the first story to tell. It became the start that sparked my imagination and I was able to unleash my heart. I hope to share this story with many more people. Now I went out of the shell and pulled my determination to publish this and more.
