Holding up a large diamond ring, Greyson smiled at his customer. "Is this the one you're interested in, sir?" he asked in a seductive tone, brushing his arm against the man to encourage him.
It was an upside to being one of the Seven Deadly Sins. He had the ability to persuade and encourage people to give up their money for goods, and they often listened unless they were strong willed and completely opposed to an idea.
The man looked at the ring and hummed. "If it'll make my wife forget I cheated on her..." He trailed off, his face burning red. "Sorry, too much information."
Greyson licked his lips, eyeing the poor man trying to earn forgiveness through jewelry. "Ah, it's quite alright, feel free to tell me anything you please," he cooed, the customer looking up and losing himself in Greyson's emerald eyes. "I know some other rings that may please her more. They're a tad bit more expensive, but they'll win her over in a second."
Greyson was well aware that every word he spoke was a lie; any smart girl would leave the man that cheated on her, but he didn't care. All purchases were final and his only desire was to get the green tucked into his customer's wallet into his own clutches.
Maybe he'd take his soulmate out for a nice dinner with the money... he may have been the sin of Greed, but Greyson was nothing but generous when it came to the envious love of his life.
"May I see those rings?" the customer asked, appearing to be in a dazed trance. "I'm sure she'd love them."
Greyson hummed in agreement, secretly bursting with joy. "Of course," he said, leading the man to some of their rarer and pricier rings, the cheapest one reaching well over fifteen thousand dollars, the kind of ring a well off man would buy for an engagement.
Or, apparently, a divorce.
Greyson smiled at the thought of the man returning home with his new, non-returnable ring, only for his future ex-wife to have thrown all of his stuff out and not listen to anything he has to say.
"Which would you recommend?" the man asked, pleading for help with his eyes.
Greyson loved that question. It was almost like they wanted to pay over their three month salary for a ring.
"If you want to win your lover back, I'd say go for the white gold diamond," Greyson said, pointing at an eighteen thousand dollar ring. "It will not only win her back, but it looks beautiful on any skin tone and it should be within a well off man's price range."
Bringing up a man's salary always got them to give in, because no man would admit he was poor to Greyson. Especially not a desperate man who had fallen into his trance.
"I'll take it," the man said, holding out his card and handing it to Greyson.
Taking the card and trying to control his excitement, Greyson swiped the piece of plastic, wishing he could smell all of the cash that could come from it.
"Would you like to spend an extra one hundred for special gift wrapping?" Greyson asked as he took out the ring. "Women love the special wrapping."
The man handed his card over for the second time and didn't notice the pleasure on Greyson's face when he swiped it. Once he had his ring, the man thanked Greyson and left the store, his mind still lost in its trance.
After that, the store was empty, so Greyson put up the closed for lunch sign and made his way into the break room/office where his beautiful soulmate sat, glowering at him.
"What put you in this mood, beautiful?" Greyson asked his platinum blond haired soulmate, who was seated on the break room table. "Jealous, as usual?"
Elijah, the sin of Envy, scowled at him. "You brushed up against that man!" he snapped, hopping off the table and stomping up to Greyson.
Greyson found Elijah's attempt to be threatening humorous. While he was a sin, Elijah was the softer one in the pair, a sucker for attention and needy for his soulmate, no matter what.
"I was putting him in a trance so I could sell to him, gorgeous," Greyson said, touching Elijah's cheek, but the latter slapped his hand away. "Fine, I guess my baby doesn't want to be treated to a fancy night out."
Elijah perked up at that. "What kind of fancy night out?" he inquired, anger fading into a flirty, seductive attitude.
Greyson smirked. "You're upset, so I guess you're not interested," he said, sitting down on his comfortable office chair and typing up his sale on his computer so he could restock.
Huffing, Elijah sat on Greyson's lap, blocking his view of his computer screen.
"I get jealous easily, it's part of who I am!" Elijah exclaimed, cupping Greyson's cheeks in his hands and forcing him to look at his watery blue eyes. "Please take me out. I want you to show me off."
"And make other people jealous of me because I have you?" Greyson asked, taking his hands off of his computer and settling them on Elijah's hips. "I'm greedy, baby, I'm not sure I want to let other people see what's mine."
Elijah frowned. "But I like when you get greedy," he said, placing his hands on Greyson's shoulders. "It makes me feel wanted and makes me know you don't want anyone else. Your greed eases my jealousy."
Greyson got up and lifted his soulmate, setting him back down on the table. "Then I guess you better get out of here and head home to get dressed, huh?" he asked, handing Elijah a wad of cash from his wallet. "Go buy yourself a new outfit if you want or some new jewelry. I know how much you like to pretty yourself up before a big date."
Elijah took the money and kissed Greyson's cheek. "For being Greed himself, you're always generous with me," he said, hopping off the table.
Greyson sat back down in his office chair. "They say that soulmates bring out the best in us, and I supposed it applies to being a sin, too," he said, opening his arms. "Give me a real kiss before you go, baby."
Giggling, Elijah surged forward and crashed his lips into Greyson's, moaning when he felt Greyson's tongue slip into his mouth. They pulled away seconds later and Elijah got up and ran to the door.
"I'll see you tonight!" he called, blowing a kiss to his gorgeous soulmate. "I'll have Lexi pick me up from wherever I decide to shop and meet you at home."
"I'll pick you up around seven, baby," Greyson said as Elijah slipped out the door.
As soon as he was gone, Greyson felt sadness creep into his chest. Supernatural deadly sin or not, he still felt emotions like any human would. Even after hundreds of years of life, Greyson couldn't control the sadness he felt when Elijah left him alone. He sometimes felt it even with Elijah there, but he'd never seen the look of sadness or longing on Elijah's face that Greyson sometimes experienced when they were together.
He tried to ignore it and continue his work, opening the store back up and tricking more clients into buying jewelry outside their price range, but the pain of longing remained in his chest.
After work, he locked up his store and turned on all of the alarms before climbing into his car and speeding toward the mansion in the forest outside of Cincinnati, the city where they all lived and worked.
When Greyson reached the mansion, he was thrilled to see Elijah already outside, sporting a new suit and a necklace with two stars and a moon in the center.
"You look beautiful, my love," Greyson said, leaning over to lock lips with Elijah.
Elijah swooned, a warm smile spreading over his face as he kissed Greyson back. "You're always beautiful," he said as Greyson pulled out of their driveway and drove to one of the fanciest restaurants in the city, Primavista.
"This place is so fancy!" Elijah cheered, scrambling out of the car and almost bolting inside, had it not been for Greyson grabbing him around the waist. "Sorry, I'm just so excited!"
Greyson took Elijah's hand in his own, and a waiter brought them to a private table where they'd be alone and not overheard by anyone.
"Simon has poor Kayden working late all the time," Elijah pouted after they'd been served their drinks. "I would've taken him shopping with me today but apparently he's working on some stupid project."
"Baby, you know that they work during the week days. Your schedule is pretty flexible because you don't have a job, so you can't blame Kayden for doing his," Greyson said.
To anyone else it would've sounded offensive, but Elijah took pride in not having a job. He didn't see a reason to work when his soulmate and everyone else that he lived with raked in plenty of cash to go around.
"Still stupid," Elijah grumbled. "He can't just overwork a human, soulmate or not! If I had a human soulmate..."
Elijah trailed off, suddenly looking uncomfortable. "Not that is want one, because I have you and you're all I need!" he exclaimed, but Greyson could tell he was forcing enthusiasm.
"Elijah?" Greyson asked, getting his partner's attention. "Do you ever feel like something is missing in our relationship?"
Opening his mouth, Elijah seemed like he wanted to respond, but then he closed it.
Their food was brought seconds later and neither of the pair brought up what Greyson asked for the rest of the night.
