The Shadow Reaper's life

Chapter one: The Fall

Chapter one: The Fall

May 20, 2021

This is it. The beginning of a new life. An important life to many monsters. It all started when I escaped from an awful place. I was running away from delusional monsters who wanted me dead. I heard them screaming out something, but I could not make it out. I was too focused on running for my life. I thought to myself, ‘if I keep going, they will tire themselves out, and they will stop chasing me.’ I thought I was home free until I was interrupted by humongous precipice. I nearly feel into it. I looked around to see if there was another way to get over to the other side. I tried spreading out my wings to fly over, but they were too fragile. I could not use my magic because the spells that I used to escape drained me. I kept thinking about other ways to get across, but I was too late. I heard multiple clicks behind me. I turn around and I saw them. A swarm of monsters in lab coats holding plasma guns, stun sticks, rope, and cages. Amongst the swarm, one monster walked out and started to laugh. Of course, it was the one I despised the most, Dr. One Eye; or should I say Captain One Eye. The reason why I call him that is because he lost his leg during my escape. “Well, I must say, you did cause us quite a problem young lady.” He started to walk closer to me. “I know you can understand what I’m saying. If we would have known that all long time ago, we would not be in this situation. Am I right?” He waited for me to respond but he knew that I could not speak even if I had tried. “Oh, that’s right, you don’t know how to speak English, but for some reason you can understand it. I guess we did not do a good of enough job of breaking mind; but do not worry we will fix that back at the lab.”  He looked at me will eldritch stare. My body tensed up at the thought of going back. He was waiting for me to walk towards him, but I just stood there and gave him a sinister look. “So, we’re going to be like that are we? Alright then. I will play your little game. I will give you two choices to choose from. One, you can come back with us to the lab or two, refuse to cooperate and be terminated. Which one will you choose? Here a hint, it does not matter what you choose, both will lead to your demise.” He was right. Both choices will lead to my ill-fated demise. In desperation, I had looked over my shoulder and stared into the rocky abyss. Then it hit me. I thought of something that could get me out of this mess. I looked straight into his one grayish eye and shrug and jumped backwards in the precipice. I let myself fall for a couple meters before grabbing onto the stony walls of the cliff. I made sure that I had a strong grip on the rocks and made sure I did not make any noise. I heard Captain One Eye yelling to the goons about the situation. He ordered someone to investigate the abyss, to see if they saw me. Gladly they said no. After a few minutes, they left. I could not believe it. I was free. I’m finally free. I was so happy, that I started to cry. While crying I started to climb up the wall. I thought that I could ‘finally start a new life or maybe finally be able to go home. Even though I don’t remember a lot things but I will find out who I am and where I belong.’ While being distracted with happiness, I grab onto an unstable rock. I lost my grip and fell into the abyss. The first thing I thought was to open wings so I could slow down my fall, but they collapse due to G-force. I started to scream; I was so terrified. While screaming for my life, something caught my eye. A bright shiny light pierced my eyes and made me go blind for a few minutes. When I reopened my eyes, I was falling out the sky. For some reason I was in a different world. I knew that things were different because instead of a vibrant sky, instead it was dull and pitiful. I noticed that I was getting close to the ground. I had to think of something quick. I pulled on my wings to try to cover my torso. I needed to protect my organs from the painful impact that I was going to receive. So, I embrace for impact. I collided with a patch of dead bushes. I weakly rolled over on to my back; I looked up at the sky and estimated that I felled about thirty-one miles. Somehow, I survived that fall. I tried to move my body, but I was in excruciating pain. To add to the pain, needles from the dead bushes pushed up against my back. I felt like death. At that point I have even accepted that feeling. I closed my eyes. Hoping that I could receive some type of relief, but it did not last that long. I heard footsteps coming towards me. I turned my head to where they were coming from. In the distance I saw a dark figure standing there. Then, it started coming closer. I could not do anything but just stare at it. It was until I saw what the figure was. It was a little boy skeleton holding a frog. For some reason he was missing a tooth, but I did not really focus on that. I kept staring him. He asked me if I were ok, but I could not answer him because I knew he would not understand me. Then all the sudden my eyes started to water. I was crying. The skeleton saw my tears and ran away. I looked back at the sky, wondering where he went or will he ever come back. I tried to stay awake for the boy’s return, but my eyes grew heavier until they finally shut. After a couple of minutes passed, I felt something touched me. Then, it picked me up. I did not know what was going on but for some reason I felt some type of warmth. The warmth was comforting and somewhat familiar. Then all the sudden the thing that pick me was moving at a fast pace. I did not know where it was taking me, but I did not care anymore. During the trip, I blacked out. I was unable to stay awake anymore.  I believe I was out for thirty minutes; I open my eyes and saw I was in a hospital room. My body was hooked up too many machines like an IV, a heart monitor, a blood pressure machine, and more. During that moment it felt like I was felt like I was back at that horrid lab again. I was going to get up and run until I felt a heavy weight on my arm. I looked over and saw the little skeleton holding onto my hand while laying on my arm. I did not know what to do, so I just sat there and wait for something to happen.
