Grace walked through the ominous forest. Trees closed in around her, she was getting desperate. Thebes had to be around here somewhere. Her mother needed Thebes' healing power.
There was a sudden noise, but it was only a horned owl perched on top of a snow-laden branch. Grace turned back around and trudged on through the ankle-deep snow. Where was Thebes?
"Thebes!" she cried, "Thebes, where are you?!"
Her voice echoed through the empty forest. The fog started to roll in from the lake. She couldn't stay here much longer.
She started walking toward her home. Soon the tiny cottage came into view. The front door was slightly open. The windowless front side of the hut made it look like a soulless monster ready to devour the world with its ginormous maw. When she entered the one room of the cottage; however, the hut transformed into a giant manor. The entrance hallway spanning at least twenty feet. Tall stately pillars supported the roof. Two flights of stairs went up to the second-floor balcony. Grace slowly climbed the stairs on her left. Her mother would be to sick to care if she was home or not.
