Ping. Ping. Ping. PING! pINGPINGPING!

Ha-Yoon opens her eyes. The annoying sound continues, and by now her vision has focused enough to add a heap of screens in front of her to accompany the sound. “Ugh…what is this? Where am I?” She stands unsteadily, one hand out for balance, the other pushing against her headache. The sound dies off and she’s left with lots of “screens” floating before her. She swipes them around, making an orderly pile until she reaches the one of the bottom.

“Welcome, Beginner!

It seems you’ve been summoned unexpectedly to a universe parallel to your own!

To begin, we’ve given you some hints and clues.

Your first objective is to survive a battle (Incoming)

Should you fail this tutorial period, it will repeat until you win.

Once out of the tutorial period, no guarantees will be given to your safety!

That is the first screen. Ha-Yoon scowls, pushing it aside. It doesn’t seem to have much importance, and it hasn’t answered much of her questions. She moves on to reading the second one.

“Error Detected.

You have been misclasified as a player!

We apologize, Your Majesty.

The tutorial period has been canceled, and a worthy starter kit has been sent.

Please be careful.”

That also offeres no explanation for the situation, but at least the “tutorial” has been canceled. She swipes it aside to view the next screen.

“Welcome, Queen Ha-Yoon!

It seems you have been unexpectedly summoned to a universe parallel to your own!

To begin, we shall bestow upon you your rightful gifts.

Our only objective is to see to your survival.

Should we fail, a knight shall be sent to protect you.

Warning!

You cannot go back to your universe nor are you able to refuse this.

Good luck, and may you always be happy!”

How odd, it has a similar format to the first screen, but it seems more like she controls it now, rather than it controlling her. She shrugged, disregarding it.

Finally, something that seemed useful. She closed that screen, before looking to the next. At this rate, it would take hours to go through all of them. She resorted them into two piles: items and announcements. The announcements didn’t take nearly as much time to read, so she plowed through those first. The summary was that she had been summoned here to fulfill the role of “Queen”. She would now be forced to live out her days here, but at least it was similar to her own world. However, in this one, a huge disaster had unleashed a magical force known as “mana” on the world. Its influence spread widely, gifting a portion of the population with wonderful powers and great skill. With the blessing of “mana”, these gifted individuals could far surpass the normal limits of humans. The other major affect of “mana” was the appearance of “cracks”. Cracks could appear anywhere, leading to dungeons or other worlds. Dungeon cracks could be shut down by clearing them. World cracks could be shut down using special items or skills. 

“What a complicated world,” Ha-Yoon sighed, shaking her head. This was going to be hard to understand. She looked to the “items” stash instead. It contained many high level equipment pieces, presumably an unusual amount. She placed them all in her inventory. “Should probably equip some…” she muttered, reopening the inventory. “Which would be better, making me look unique or making myself fit in…?” She could go either way, placing unique equipment or maxed out basics in her slots. Deciding to tread carefully, she opted for the maxed out basics.

Ha-Yoon scoffed. Wasn’t this overpowered for a beginner? Oh well. She pulled out her Beginner’s Rapier and tried to swing it. It sliced through the air, almost rocketing from her hand. “Yikes!” She stared in horror at the thin blade. If she couldn’t handle something like that, how would she make it in this new universe? No. She musn’t think like that. Ha-Yoon gritted her teeth before lifting the blade again. It shone in the dim light, the needle-thin metal quivering in the air. She would master this, and she would make her way through this twisted version of her reality. And if there were any obstacles in her path? Well, she’d master those too.

She sat down on a rock, breathing hard. She had earned a new skill, and leveled it up quite quickly just by practicing with the rapier.

“New Skill: Shredding Slice

*can only be used with a rapier or a thin sword.

Will shred any opponent into thin slices.

Now it is twice as powerful!”

It was surprising useful, but it was exhausting her just from practicing it. She put the sword down, and opened her inventory. “Food, food, food…” She muttered, looking through the mess of items. Oddly enough, she couldn’t find any. There were potions, items, spells, and equipment, but no basic survival items. Like, food or water, for example. Cough, cough. Ha-Yoon gave the screen the side eye, her previous determination somewhat miffed by this discovery. She glanced dubiously around the cave, but it was pretty barren, definitely built as a training ground or something of the like. “Seriously?! You give me overpowered items, but you can’t be bothered to give me food?” While it didn’t make much sense to yell at the surrounding area, she was annoyed.

Ha-Yoon chuckled wearily. This was such extreme favoritism. “Thanks, I guess…” she muttered.
