In the scorching ruins of an ancient city, a heavily wounded knight walks through decaying corpses scattered around the street that was once lively and peaceful. His armor is rusted, covered with drying blood and sharp arrows penetrated through his torso, arms and legs. The way he breaths seemed to be weak, indicating that he will soon fall to his glorious death. But he must keep walking.
“Are you alright?” asked the knight while he is walking in pain.
“I’m scared.” answered the young boy who is being carried in fear on his back.
The trembling boy was found when he and his parents got ambushed during the barbaric siege. His leg got crippled, therefore he carries him to the safe place.
The boy looks through the knight’s visor, staring at his eyes filled with rage.
“Aren’t you scared to see dead people?” asked the boy.
“Hmm, not really,” answered the knight who doesn’t fear death, “seeing them makes me angry.”
“Angry?”
“We humans have a purpose. Live together with Mother Earth. But now, She is in pain. These fools are hurting Her because of their selfishness. Power and greed. I can hear Her crying, begging us to live how we used to be. Yet, no one is listening t- ARGH!!!”
The knight is in great pain. He falls to his knees while he still carries the wounded boy on his shoulder. Blood is spilling out from the knight’s helmet.
“Knight! Knight!” shouted the boy, begging him to stay alive. “Are you alright!? Please don’t die.”
“Young one, I may not live for long. But, if I die today, would you please ease Her pain?”
“Huh!?”
“I want you to be strong enough to be at Her side. Do not hesitate to punish to those who hurt Her. Never tolerate such fools, because they are broken. Slash them, burn them, stab them, and poke, poke poke poke poke…”
It was all just a dream. Alinel, a full-fledged young maiden with a magical crown that floats above her head, and currently wears her pajama, is poking Veist’s cheek, an anonymous man whose body is covered with bandage but his eyes, currently wears a pajama too. Veist is lying on bed while Alinel is sitting on him when he was still asleep.
“…poke, poke, poke, poke, poke, poke.” said Alinel who is repeatedly poking his cheek.
“Good morning, milady.”
Alinel stops poking him.
“Oh. My dearest,” she said motherly, “you finally wake up.”
“Yes, yes, it’s thanks to you. So why did you wake me up?”
“We got big news.”
“Hm?”
Alinel grabs a postal telegraph and shows it to Veist.
“A telegraph from the Guild Hall. New quests are now available.”
Veist closes his eyes as he is not interested and goes back to sleep.
“Oh. Probably more gathering quests. I skip.”
“No, no, no, no! It’s not just gathering quests. It says here there are hunting quests as well.”
Veist opens his eyes again as he is interested on hunting quests.
“Hunting quests?”
“That’s right. Take a look.”
Alinel gives Veist the telegraph. It contains information reports about various quests which are available at the Guild Hall.
“Hm, there are a lot of verities. It seems that the Guild's Observers caught a lot of big fishes this time.”
“So, are we gonna do a quest?”
“Well, it’s been a while we didn’t get any decent quests such as these. We’ll do it.”
“Yay! Thank you, my dearest.”
“Let’s just get ready. Take a bath, have breakfast, then we’ll go to the Guild Hall.”
“Haha! I’ll go first.” Said Alinel as she heads into the bathroom.
Veist gets off from the bed and opens the window to take a breath of fresh air. It’s morning and almost the end of winter, with majestic view where the city is built with medieval and industrial architectural style, populated with the world’s most dominant anthropomorphic races known as the Ferans, the mammalian race, Skalans, the reptilian race, and Pelnans, the avian race. There are subdivisions of race, like humans and demi-humans, but there aren't many of them. It's a world that embraces magic and science.
“Well, then. Let’s start the day by cleaning up the bed.” Veist mumbled as he is going to clean up the bed.
Both Alinel and Veist take their bath in turns, dress up, have breakfast, then leave their room. It’s almost been their daily routine. Alinel, a "human mage" who has the power to summon and manipulate stars, wears an attire that depicts her as a star maiden, or also known as astromage. She also carries her magical book whenever she goes for adventure. In the other hand, the mysterious-looking bandaged person, Veist, wears a nineteenth-century-style attire that makes him look like Jack the Ripper. He usually carries his two weapons, a scythe and a sickle. No one cares much of such clothing style because it’s considered common for many adventurers.
