The Wound That Never Healed

Prologue

Prologue

Apr 18, 2025

Cecilia was only nineteen when Víctor Villafuerte, a man who seemed plucked from the pages of a fairy tale walked into her life.

His dark eyes, shadowed by a fringe of black hair, held a captivating allure. The lean strength of his athletic build stirred unfamiliar desires within her. She fell in love instantly, a swift and all-consuming devotion.

Little did she know that her story would soon twist into a chilling narrative far removed from any "happily ever after."

Víctor possessed a smile that could melt the coldest heart, and Cecilia believed she could happily lose herself in its warmth forever. But one ordinary afternoon, without any warning, Víctor cruelly shattered her illusion. He left her, his casual words "I'm simply tired of you" echoing with brutal indifference.

The pain of his rejection was sharp, a raw wound to her young heart. Yet, it was nothing compared to the icy shock that followed when Michelle, whom Cecilia had always considered merely Víctor’s childhood friend, appeared at Cecilia's workplace.

A dazzling engagement ring glittered on her finger as she delivered a cold pronouncement. "Víctor and I are getting married," she stated, her eyes like chips of ice. "You need to stay far away from us."

Tears of heartbreak and confusion streamed down Cecilia's face. "Michelle, but-what are you saying?" she choked out, but Michelle simply turned and left, the click of her heels echoing like a final punctuation mark.

That was only the first act in a much greater tragedy.

Weeks crawled by, each hour a struggle to piece together the fragments of her shattered life, until one day strangers arrived at Cecilia's door. With hard, emotionless faces and flat, unsympathetic voices, they declared themselves the new owners of her home.

"What? No, this is my home!" Cecilia cried, her voice rising in panic. "There must be some mistake!"

But the men's faces remained hard and unmoved. They ignored her frantic pleas, their hands rough as they dragged her out into the street, leaving her bruised and broken, physical scars of her desperate fight for the only place she had ever truly belonged.

"Please! You can't do this!" she sobbed, but the door slammed shut, the sound echoing the finality of her loss.

In her naiveté, she had been so foolish. How could she have foreseen that the power of attorney she signed for Víctor, meant to address some minor house issues on her behalf, would become the very instrument of her undoing?

"It was just to fix the roof," she whispered to the empty air. That seemingly harmless piece of paper, signed in a moment of blind trust, had allowed Víctor to steal the house that had sheltered generations of her family.

The legal system offered no solace. Her accusations against the wealthy Víctor Villafuerte sounded preposterous to the disbelieving lawyers.

"Miss," said the weary-looking lawyer she consulted. "Your accusations against Mr. Villafuerte sound—improbable. A man of his standing, with his vast wealth scattered across international banks, wouldn't bother with a small property like yours." His words hung in the air, heavy with disbelief. "Do you have any solid proof?"

Initially, a fierce anger burned within Cecilia, a desperate urge to fight tooth and nail for what was hers, even against a man of such cruel power. She was ready to risk everything.

But then, a pregnancy test confirmed she was carrying Víctor’s child and a new reality crashed down upon her. She realized that a violent fight was no longer an option; she now had someone else to protect.

Looking back, the subtle warnings were there. Fleeting moments of coldness in Víctor's eyes, brief instances of detachment. But in the intoxicating whirlwind of their initial connection, she had been too blinded by his charm to recognize them.

Now, the weight of her foolishness pressed down on her, and soon, driven by desperation, she found herself standing before the imposing gates of Michelle Nieto’s mansion, a place that radiated wealth and a cold indifference.

Pride was a forgotten luxury. Cecilia was prepared to kneel, to offer any vow of silence and invisibility. All she wanted was her house back. She would even force the bitter words of thanks past her lips if it meant securing a home for her unborn child.

She had once believed her life with Víctor was a paradise. Now, with the clarity of hindsight, she saw it for what it truly was, a beautiful, alluring trap set before a devastating fall.

Cecilia should had been more careful, but at nineteen, the calculated cruelty of such a man had been utterly unimaginable.
