In the land of Hevaria.
“Our land has been assaulted by dark spirits for almost a decade. Families has shed tears over the years, mourning on their loss,” a man in his mid-forty hollered to the crowd of townsfolk, making them roared in anger, in pain as they remembered the death of their family and friends.
“And now my men and ladies!” he raised his voice, shutting up the crowd that had gotten bigger when the cries of villagers filled the small town in west Hevaria. “Now, we had found the culprits who had killed a great number of innocent people!”
“Behold my companions, they are dark spirit who could care less about the people’s safety. We shall not be fooled by their kind heart as it was just a coating worn to trick all of you into believing them. It was just a mask to hide those devilish acts behind our backs!”
While the guy continued his speech, providing lies to the townsfolk, in a dark alley close to the event which had caught all of the people’s attention, stood a child in a ragged white dress that went past her knee. She was shivering in coldness as it was close to winter, leading to the merry day of Christmas yet there was no happiness in her amber eyes.
She watched the turnout close to the stage where both her parents were forced to be, kneeling without no sign of fighting for themselves. In the midst of crowd, she saw a few familiar faces. It made her heart ached. How could they pointed their fingers to her mother and father when they were the kindest of people she had met?
“Watch my men and ladies!”
She saw it. She saw it all. When the words left the guy’s mouth, she knew it was the end. She could not save them, she was a mere child. She knew she could at least try, but her parents had told her to run away from the village yet she was still present here. She promised both of them with eyes full of tears that she would live like the other children her age; happy and bubbly without care about the world.
She wished she was stronger. If only she had said yes without complaining every time her father trained her, she could fight the people, maybe not all, but she could try.
Silent tears kept on flowing down as she ran. She could see nothing other than the sight of her parents’ headless bodies. She had never thought the world could be so cruel, at least not until now.
1829
In the land of Neocia.
It had been a decade and a half since the death of her parents. She was now 54 in human’s age, but only 18 in her kinds’ age. She had her own life in the heart of Neocia where a big town was situated. The news of dark spirits had flew through the townsfolk in a short amount of time, lingering around for a period of three months, but was deceased right after that.
She came with a bag of gold coins given by none other than her parents and she had spent it wisely. She had a nice little cottage near the Coral Depths Lake and Lonely Woods. Although the townsfolk rumored that it was a sickening place which had dark spirits roaming around the place, she had found it very cozy and she could run free in the woods without people noticing her strange form.
“Ah, good morning, little lady,” Mrs. Miles greeted the young woman in her piece of blue gown and a tied back hair. She had a habit of calling Emanne ‘little lady’ as she had saw her as a little girl who has a braveness and wiseness as a lady had.
“Good morning, Mrs. Miles. It is a nice day isn’t it?” queried Silent as she picked some carrots from a rattan basket. “It is indeed. Have you heard about the king visiting the town?”
“Which town?” Emanne had her attention removed from the vegetables and on to Mrs. Miles.
“Ours.”
Hearing that being said, Emanne felt like a stone had been lifted onto her. She could not afford to be seen by the king as she knew he was a vampire. There was a high possibility of him finding out about her true identity even if she consumed the potion of invisibility more than she always did. The king was a pure blood after all, to top it all, they hated us since they were born.
“When would it take place if you don’t mind me asking?” Emanne asked the woman, trying to get as much information as she could to save herself.
“Next week, on the full moon.”
Now, she was doomed. There was a pack of werewolves near to where she lived and she had never stayed in her cottage on that certain day in a month as she afraid she would be targeted again. Hence, she stayed over at Mrs. Miles as she was befriended with her daughter, Christina.
“Very well. Thank you for the nice carrots, Mrs. Miles. I would hand some of the beef stew I am going to make to you later in the evening,” offered her. She loved to give some of her food portion to Mrs. Miles as a thankful gift for letting her stayed at her house every once in a while.
“You are so kind, my child. I would have not taken it if it wasn’t for the good stew you have always managed to make,” praised Mrs. Miles.
Going home after getting some fresh meat, her mind began to ponder over the king’s visit that was about to come. Little did she knew about what was about to come her way in the midst of planning her escape.
A day before the king’s visits, murmurs in the town got louder and more active. Ladies of high class would not break the constant visit to the boutiques that the town had to offer. While on the other hand, Silent wasn’t as delighted as the other. Her mind would not stop wondering whether the fate going to be good to her or not.
She had packed her things, prepared to run if she needed to which she highly believed she would seeing that she had very few choices. Walking towards the town, she collided with a well-known lady’s daughter, Cecilia Welch. “Stop being clumsy, you wrecked child,” Cecilia spat.
“I am sorry, my lady.”
“That is all you say after you bumped me? Look at my 100 gold dress, all dirty because of you!”
“It suits you better. A dress should portray its owner,” Emanne said in a low tone, hoping that the lady wouldn’t catch up on what she had stated.
“I should change this instant if I want to meet the royal on time,” Cecilia muttered to herself, but Emanne's ears caught glimpses of it and it had already made her rooted to the spot.
She was planning to buy some food at the market since there was nothing left for her to fill herself yet somehow she found herself running back into the cottage with such a rush, resulting in her bumping into the lady again, but she was quick to get up, leaving the messed up lady with her own self in the mud.
