Steps were echoing in the corridors as she ran through them searching for a way to escape.
Finally after running for some time she ended up in her lab. While hectically searching for the drug she made, she heard a quiet voice from the cell behind her.
"That's the wrong drawer, it's in the one above."
A sense of relieve flooded her as she heard the familiar voice. Without losing anymore time she carefully opened the drawer above and took out a vial with a black substance in it and a syringe. After carefully extracting the drug with the syringe she injected herself with it.
A wave of pain flooded her as her hair started to change. When she turned around on wobbly feet she saw the boy sitting there behind the bars. Watching her with his silver and golden eyes. His eyes reminded her of those of a lizard.
She looked down on herself just to see crimson hair, where once light brown hair was. Her hair was the same color as the boy's. And not only that, her skin also seemed to be paler and a more grayish color than before. It reminded her of the countless lifeless bodies she had seen over the past few years she worked here.
"Let's get you out of here", she said looking at the boy with an expression that seemed like pity.
She walked towards him and took out the key to the cage. When she opened the cell door and the boy carefully walked through it she started to hearing steps from down the hall.
Before the boy could take a good look at his surroundings the girl opened yet another drawer and took out a bottle filled with a transparent substance. The girl quickly opened the bottle and spilled the mixture over her notes and all the samples she had collected over the years. As the substance hit the notes and samples they all melted without leaving a trace.
The steps came closer with every second that passed and it was clear they would soon reach the lab.
They had no time to lose, so she picked up the little boy and opened a window. Scared she stood in the window, as someone opened the door to the lab. In his hands holding a gun aiming at them.
When he was about to shoot a pair of pitchblack eyes gazed at him, which caused him to falter. Taking that chance she jumped out of the window. Their screams lost in the darkness of the night.
Horrified the man ran up to the window and looked down, but it was too dark to see anything. As he stood there paralyzed a group of men came in to assist him, only to see the man standing in front of the window. The same horror spread across their faces as they heard a man ordering everyone to stand down as he approached the door.
After entering the room the young man came to an halt within seconds, as he saw them standing in front of the open window. The shock in his blue gray eyes turned to raging anger as he realized what happened.
Everybody in the room knew very well that they were going to be punished for letting something like this happen. And not even five minutes later their screams of pain echoed through the entire building.
He was walking around running some errands as he saw a girl sitting on the street with a small boy in her arms. Their hair was completely overgrown and they were so dirty that one couldn't even tell the original colors of the clothes they wore.
As he was about to turn away he saw the owner of the coffee shop, in front of which the girl sat, holding a hand out to her. The girl seemed surprised by this gesture, but she knew that this was her only chance at survival. Without hesitating any longer she took the hand that reached for her and the new possibilities that came with it. The owner of the coffee shop smiled and helped her up, but no one ever does something without an ulterior motive.
But at the time the girl could only think of how to make them pay for what they did and didn't mind it, since she also planned on using her.
~Just you wait. I'll come back sooner or later and when I do I'll destroy everything you worked so hard to built in front of you. The monster you so badly wanted, I'll give it to you.~
At the same time a little girl was sobbing in her room covering the right half of her face with her hands. She could still feel the burning sensation on her skin and every time she closed her eyes she saw their horrified expressions.
Wondering what she had done to deserve something like this her sobbs grew more and more quiet.
After what felt like an eternity the door to her room was opened. And as she looked up she could recognize the silhouette of her older brother, alltough it was still blurry because of the tears that were constantly welling up. And even though she couldn't see his expression very clearly he looked extremely pained and guilty.
Leila wondered why he looked like he was about to cry, when she was the one who lost sight in her right eye and burned half her face, but that mistery would be resolved for her in the coming years.
He slowly came up to her and fell on his knees infront of her. Crying and sobbing he muttered that this wasn't his fault and he hugged her with trembling arms.
Back then she wasn't aware that all of this truly was his fault. So she tried to comfort him and told him everything was going to be fine, when in fact it wasn't.
Only a few months had passed but she changed way more than one could imagine. The outgoing and happy kid she once was was gone, all that was left was pain, insufferable pain.
This was the first time she left the house after the incident.
She wore a mask covering the right half of her face, because the sun would only cause the scarring to worsen.
After mindlessly walking around for some time she decided to enter a coffee shop. It wasn't the prettiest one there was, but it gave her a feeling of comfort and security, like she hadn't felt in a while.
She gazed at the shield on which the name of the coffee shop was written in a somewhat tacky font "Old times coffee". A slight smile showed on her face before she entered the building.
The inside was warm and cozy, although there weren't many customers. She walked up to the counter and sat down on a chair. While waiting for someone to notice her and take her order she heard two familiar voices bickering.
She looked up just to see the two people whom she cared for the most. The girl turned around and grinned when she saw Leila.
After being betrayed by the people she trusted the most she decided to run away. Although not in a way one might expect. Swearing to come back for revenge and destroy everything they worked so hard to build.
Edit: I changed the chapter a little and made the paragraphs shorter so it'll be easier to read.
