This is a tale which may or may not start like any other, with an abyss. An Endless Abyss. One which despite being so vast and huge, is inherently isolatory in nature. No end yet no beginning, a paradox that is too much for one to handle, yet very simple to understand.
Thus is the nature of Abysses and Paradoxes. This is where we find ourselves, with a man. A man who, despite being selfish and potentially malevolent, has been humbled. He who was once the potential incarnate of harmless malice, is now the epitome of self loathing.
For you see, this man had been in a conflict with their enemies, and had been left behind in the Abyss. After an amount of time, they began to doubt, and loathe. This is the state that one experiences when exiled to an isolatory space, whether it be an Abyss or elsewhere, within isolation, one's only companion is themselves.
The man was left in eternal isolation, and could not escape. Perhaps he didn’t want to, but at the same time there was a yearning to leave. And so, the man sat down, and waited.
This however did not satisfy him. There was an urge, a sensation, a desire to not only exit the slump he had found himself in, but to free himself of the abyss. Perhaps the punishment he found himself in was too oppressive to his state of mind.
As we know, the abyss, despite being a construct itself with a form of existence to it, is also a construct. It is reflective of one’s state of mind. If one seeks to remain, it is more appealing, if one seeks to leave, it is unappealing. Whilst every other location may seem this way, those all have an allure to them, which appeal to specific sensibilities and personalities.
An abyss however is an unmovable construct, a location that is simply empty and vapid in its nature. The man had no use for it and so it had no use for him. He decided to venture on, in the hopes of seeking an exit.
This task however, as easy as it may seem, was also incredibly difficult. As you should be aware, the abyss itself has no end. No one can leave, yet you can enter. The man had entered after an encounter with his enemies, and so he had been abandoned here, the ultimate form of retribution.
After wandering for a while, the man had realised that leaving may be difficult, and so, he reached into his pockets. What he retrieved was a set of random items he gathered throughout the years. His plan for them was simple, to plant them every meter, and have them facing the direction he was going.
This was to make sure that, if on the occasion that he got lost, that the items would guide him back on his path. The plan was straightforward, yet there lied a big issue, what to do after the items ran out. This stumped the man for a while.
Eventually he decided that he would try to break any large object into smaller pieces, and if he ran out of items, that he would take anything he could find from the abyss with him. And so, he searched around for a while, and managed to find a decent amount of items to use.
The ones he found were mainly rocks, but there was an odd pencil, and other things he couldn’t really discern. And with these items in his possession, he decided to make his way to an exit. A journey which he, as well as we, know that could end in total failure and a lack of progress. Nevertheless, he persisted onwards.
