Fuck this dumb shit, Tobi thought as he stood behind the counter at his dumb ass job. He’d only been here an hour and he was already tired and angry. Working at a local coffee shop mainly filled with college students was not as great as it had first sounded when he was looking for jobs in the first place. His main reason for picking the job was because the place was close to the main campus building. But he hadn’t considered all the work he’d have to do.
To a customer the place wasn’t bad, in fact it was nice and homely. It was filled with donated furniture, nothing matched but it was comfortable, the walls were decorated with old movie posters and vinyls, which complemented the soft jazz music that was played throughout the place. There was a lounge which was great to study and get work done, tables to eat since the place allowed outside food and a bar though no drinks were actually served.
But Tobi was not a customer, he was an employee, an annoyed employee. He was currently trying to help this pretentious woman who couldn't seem to understand the place was not a Starbucks. Could she not read the damn board we don’t have any pink drinks, or chai lattes or whatever she was babbling on about.
“Fine then i’ll just have a tall caramel latte with almond milk, and extra whipped cream”
“Ummmm, a what”
“A tall….”
“Okay listen lady, for the last time this is not a Starbucks so I have know clue what this tall thing is” he waved his hand for emphasis which only seemed to make her more upset, but he could care less.
“It's the size, you know, like small, medium, or large” she said with a rude tone and dirty look on her face.
“So why don’t you just say small medium... you know what, forget it, hold on…. ATHENA!” he yelled towards the back room “I have a customer that needs help I'm gonna wipe tables” he could no longer take it she was actually pissing him off.
His manger is probably gonna be just as pissed at his attitude but he really isn’t in the mood, so off he goes to wipe down tables.
This really isn't what he thought college life would be like, he was looking forward to partying, getting drunk and high but cleaning tables and dealing with shit customers was not on the list.
Tobi is currently attending Washington State University majoring in creative writing, and with a shit load of English classes required for his major, the swim team, and his job he is way too tired to do anything but sleep when he gets time to himself.
Creating plot lines for movies, games, and books was supposed to be an easy degree but he thought wrong. It's just endless typing away writing plot lines for things he doesn’t even care about, why the hell does he have to write about what Shakespeare meant while writing Othello, who even cares, if you wanted to know so bad you could read the book yourself.
He’d been angrily scrubbing the same spot on the table for what felt like hours and his shift still wasn’t even up yet. He does stop scrubbing when a tap on his shoulder and an endearing voice gets his attention.
“Umm excuse me do you work here”, no i'm just scrubbing the table for fun, Tobi looks behind him at a surprisingly adorable guy. With his short brown hair and hazel eyes, he could be seen as basic, but the slight chub in his cheeks that light covering of freckles adds the icing to the cake, speaking of cake.
“Yes I work here what do you want” the tone in his voice wasn’t as friendly as it should be but come on it was a dumb question, was the apron not enough.
“Well I wanted to order but no one was at the counter” Tobi looks over at the counter as sees that Athena is nowhere to be seen, ugh she's probably in the back texting her girlfriend again.
“Yeah sorry about that princess it looks like our staff is slacking give me a sec and i’ll be right with you” okay so maybe the nickname was too much but the blush on the guys face made it worth it.
