Vipovich

Clue n⁰1 : Death

Clue n⁰1 : Death

Jan 08, 2024

He was your average Soviet man with a common name. The only special thing about Viktor Kuznetstov was his job, detective. He was leading the search on a very disturbing case, he was following a killer who used Vladviostok's foggy setting to approach and kill his prey, and thanks to that the press nammed this killer 'The fog's accolyte'. Many are wondering, who will his next victim be?

This morning was weird, nothing really abnormal happened, i was still in my tiny appartment but my guts just knew that today my temper was short, and on top of that, I woke up with a slight pain in the head probably a headache. My wife, Irina, was up early, which was normal she had been doing that pretty often for the past 3 days. Why? Because the serial killer started killing 4 days ago, and now Irina was overthinking, scared that she would be next, I got out of my bed and took some clothes on, i couldn't afford to be late at work today, for i was the one leading the search for that cowardly killer. I brushed my teeth and sat down at the table with my wife. I just took some coffee and a slice of bread with butter for breakfast, I had no time to lose.

"How are you, Irina? I know it must be hard not having me around that much." I jokingly said. She ignored me. That was weird because these jokes usually put a smile on her face.
"Are you... alright, sweetheart?" I asked, worried.
Still no answer. My wife knew that I had problems controlling my emotions and that I could get really angry or sad very fast. I tried to stay calm, but i couldn't just be ignored like that.
"Irina, answer me..." She grabbed her head, and tears came out of her eyes. "IRINA FUCKING ANSWER ME NOW!! FUCKING ANSWER OR SWEAR TO FUCKING ODIN THAT I WILL SLICE YOUR FUKING THROAT OPEN! IF YOU DON'T ANSWER YOU WILL NOT LIVE TO SEE TO-"
"Out!!" She screamed.
"Wow wow wow wow wow!" I said, I wasn't used to hear my own wife scream at me with such anger. She formed a fist with her hand looking down at her cold glass of water. She punched her own head. One time, two times, three times. She was repeating this action, doing with faster and faster while screaming at me,
"GET OUT, OUT OF MY HEAD!" We were simultaneously screaming at each other. I was just reapeating the same word over and over again, "Answer." i gripped onto a knife, my anger was taking over me. But before I could do anything I snapped out of it when I saw that blood was coming out of Irina's head , it was the result of her repeated actions of punching her head.
I realised that she wanted me out. I Stopped screaming at her and just left the appartment. I looked back at her with pain and confusion in the eyes, she was trying to stop the bleeding coming out of her head while she wept. I calmly closed the door regretting what I had done, regretting that I haven't eased her mind by catching the killer and regretting that i wasn't there for her during those hard times.
"What a great way to start the day." I said to myself. The thick fog made it almost impossible to find the way to the bureau, but thanks to my good memory I arrived there safely and easily.
I had no time to have fun today, Vladivostok's habitants were getting more and more worried by the day. I rushed to my office and locked myself in there. With just me and my toughts alone in one room. I was trying to look for clues, to see who the coward's next victim will be. The first person he killed was named 'Igor Yannovich' not too long ago he was arrested with some of his friends for a crime that he did not regret, but thanks to his connections him and his comrades had their bail payed anonymously. What crime did they commit? They burned down a mansion belonging to the Vipovich family, a rich family from noble descent. It was stated that everyone died, father, mother, and oldest son. The only thing that still deranged me was that the younger sibling, the daughter's corpse was not found. Many assumed that she was the first one to be burned and that there was no trace of her reamaining body parts, but me and my bestfriend Ole, think that she escaped the house just in time and is now living somewhere in Vladviostok waiting to avenge her family.

Ole was working on the case with me, he was a little ugly, wich is probably why he doesn't even have his first kiss at 26. He was fat, short and had acne, the only blessing he recieved was his brains. He's so smart that the year he became a detective, he found 3 missing children who were missing for more than 10 years each. He was an inspiration for many in the KGB, me included.

I walked out of my office to go fetch some water, there, I found Ole and another friend of mine talking. I wasn't really in the mood to talk so i was just listening to what they were saying.
Ole poured some water in his cup as he spoke up, "Yo so guess what."
"What?" My other friend, Isaak asked"
Ole smirked, he looked at me, then back to Isaak, "I got a date tonight at 8!"
I was so schocked that i choked on the water i was drinking. "Nooo way! Ole got a date? Ole the virgin ?" I screamed with Isaak.
Everyone at the bureau turend to look at us in disbelief. I was more than happy for him. But I got reminded that I had work to do, I turned around and looked at the clock behind me, it was 10AM. I headed back to my office with Ole coming with me, we had to work hard on this case.

I sat on the table and Ole on a chair. We look at the whiteboard in front of us trying to figure something out.
I cleared my throat and turned to Ole, " Do we know the name of the Vipovich girl?" I asked. Ole just shook his head in response to my question.
"We only know that she was a 14 year old girl, and that her last name was Vipovich. Nothing else, every other information about her, and every picture of her randomly dissapeared after her death." Ole said in a low voice.
My eyes widened after hearing his words, I stood up and placed my hand on my mouth as a result of my shock. I put myself in front of the whiteboard and looked at Ole, he looked up to me and we hypothesized the same thing, at the same time "It was all planed."
This kid... she was a genius, erasing all evidence of her existance so that she could blend in with society. The fact that no one has ever tought of that was absurd, it seems so... coherant, a kid wants revenge but also wants others to think she's dead so what do you do? You erase every single proof that you ever existed.
"I'm going home, I really need a cigarette right now." I declared before putting on my black trench coat and leaving the bureau in a rush. I couldn't focus on the road I was just thinking and thinking, is this person really the cowardly killer, ugh, i couldn't relax with all these toughts running in my head, I really needed a cigarette.
When finally at the door of my appartment, I met all my stuff at the door, confused is walked in the fully open door just to see my wife, in bed, with another man.
"So you're husband isn't here?" The man said.
"My wife looked at the door only to see me standing there in shock, unable to do anything. I read on her lips the words she said to me this morning, "Get out."
She didn't say it out loud but I could still hear clearly what she was saying. I felt like I already got mad enough at her earlier today so I felt no point in walking in.
She turned to the man and whispered to him "My husband isn't of my world anymore."
The man smirked and said "Then let's go for round two!"
I couldn't stand the sight of my wife and a total rando to make love in front of me. I kicked the three big bags containing my stuff down the stairs and placed them in my car, a grey Chevrolet Cavalier and just drove around town searching for somewhere to be. I found a bar where it was cheap and good quality I spent the next three hours drinking, vodka, beer and rum, all that to forget Irina. I simply couldn't. I blacked out at 1PM just to wake up in the same bar at 7:43PM. I was not yet sober but I was able to walk straight... almost able to walk straight.
I woke up with a strange old guy at my side.

"Welcome back partner, I'm Kevin." He talked to me without even looking at me, maybe he was socially awkaward or autistic. I don't really know, but he was a kind man. I rubbed my puffy red eyes and looked baack at Kevin. It looked like he was waiting for me to talk. So I explained to him everything that has happened today, excluding the part where I say i'm working on a very important case.
The Old man scratched his head and took a sip out of his vodka glass.
"Leave the car here partner, just bring your essentials, that is If you wanna stay with me." I simply nodded in excitment, no words could come out of my mouth, but I couldn't stop smiling, how lucky do I have to be to find such a kind man, the eldery really are the best.

At the same moment, a man in a suit came to us and took the old man's glass of unfinished vodka. "You have to leave now, it's 8PM, the bar is closing." The man announced.
Kevin and I didn't question it and just left.

Outside, I remembered what Kevin said "Just take the essentials." and I took my things out of the trunk. He didn't wait for me and was already well ahead, so I just took the bag that felt the heaviest and ran to catch up to him. We were walking in silence and the walk home took a little long, I feel like we would have already arrived if we had taken the car, or at least a bus.

A distant scream broke the silence. A pained one. It came from Pokrovsky park wich was not that far away. Old man Kevin was already looking at that direction but I felt like the only right choice was to run there as fast as possible. "Kevin follow me!" I screamed at him.
That scream was a pained one and I know it. Is it the killer? Am i going catch the killer? Am i going to find out who it Is ? Is it the dead girl? So many questions were pourring inside my head, some of them wich I hope to answer tonight when I arrive at the Park.
I arrived at the Park and just had to search for the body, and I was right it was there, I saw it from afar and I sprinted over there. Holy crap i'm totally telling Ole about this!
I reached the body and to my suprise it was a familiar face that was there, laying dead in the fog, It was Ole.
My one and only best friend was dead, starring at the starry sky with his emotionless eyes. I felt like I was about to cry but i couldn't if somone finds me in this state it will be embarassing because everybody knows, men don't cry.
I just stared at Ole's dead body for a while with nothingness in my eyes. I was drowning in a indescribable pool of emptyness.
Soon after Old man Kevin arrived and as soon as he saw the body he called the police.
I took my pen and notepad out of my pocket to write down what had just happened.
"June 1st 1984 at 8:23PM, Ole Djavaowski was found dead in Pokrovsky park."
I let out a huge sigh, the sound of the police were getting closer. I turned to Kevin and spoke in a calm voice
"I sure wonder what it feels like. Death"
