There is an old tale,
One of greed,
How the kingdoms fell
How their souls were freed.
A wandering princess
And her friend, a fox,
Entered a forest
And awaited them, a god.
As they spoke with him
Above their heads,
Three giants spoke to them,
“Do not trust him!”
The first spoke,
“He has cursed the land!”
They seemed quite provoked.
The princess, unsure who to trust
Meekly turned to her fox.
But before her companion could answer,
Two of the giants fell, dead.
Turning around, the two travelers saw
The god before them, his eyes turned red.
“Don’t you tell such lies!”
The god spoke, his voice filled with rage,
“The Void cursed me!”
The wanderers only watched, afraid.
The tale once mentioned an abyss,
That could grant any wish.
But if it was a selfish one,
A curse that could not be undone.
As the last giant was struck down,
The frightened princess saw a light,
At the end of the dark forest,
Before the god could stop her, she took flight.
Once she reached the end,
She found herself upon a cliff,
Leading to an endless abyss.
“This must be the Void!”
She proclaimed to her fox.
As she began to site her wish,
She was approached by the evil god.
He said, as he tried to push her in the Void,
“You really should have fled!”
But, she managed to dodge,
And he fell instead.
She completed her wish,
And her fox on her shoulder,
The princess returned home,
Just a little wiser.
Unlike the others who had come before,
She had only wished for the world to be restored.
Not for her benefit, but for others,
For the next generation of children and theirs mothers.
