The old, dark sky mirrored an ocean of stars above the desolated lime green meadows of Calne, Wiltshire. The strong wind blew between the branches and leaves of the old tree next to the two shadowy figures. A sight to behold. There, a twelve-year-old boy sat hugging his legs, staring at the starry night sky. Next to him sat a bald man with a large, well-groomed full beard. This man was his uncle. He wore a dusty white surcoat, black trousers and long boots. On his right shoulder, a small black three dot pyramid shaped symbol inside a shield. The Division of Global Magic Affairs insignia of the holy capital of the world of Eden.
“You promise?” Victor asked, with a glorious smile. So much life reflecting in his face.
“I don’t know if you can visit every one of them. But I can take you to the closest one someday, V.” Gareth rubbed the little guy’s hair with his hand and smiled back at him.
“Don’t mess up my hair!” Victor shouted, trying to get his uncle’s hand out of his wavy black hair. Gareth laughed.
In the distance, a group of men approached on horses. Some of them carried white flags with a three-dot pyramid insignia, and all the men shared the same white double-breasted trench coat worn over armour.
“It seems I’m needed elsewhere. Say goodbye to your parents for me, V. I’ll come back as soon as I can.”
“Uncle Gareth?” the boy asked as his uncle got up from the ground. The chain that dangled from Gareth’s shoulder towards his abdomen held a black grimoire through its spine, rattling against the metal of its armour as he strolled off into the distance to where the men had brought him a horse.
“You promise?” Victor asked, catching up to him.
Gareth turned to the boy.
