"Mom, that Picard captain is awesome!" chirped Sebastian
he and his mother were watching an old movie.
"Meeting alien, venturing the stars, i want to be like him! the
greatest captain in the galaxy!"
She patted Sebastian head. "I'm sure you will.."
"Mom, when you go outside, can i go with you? pretty please.."
His mother smiled at him
"Hey!"
Sebastian heard someone calling for him, he looked around, but no one was there beside her mother. Suddenly everything became blurry.
"Mom?" he called as she slowly fade away.
"Hey! you
over there!" the voice getting clearer
"Sebas!" a girl calling for him.
Sebastian snapped out from his reverie. The girl not far from him was calling him over the intercomm while gesturing at their Chief.
"What are you doing!? stop dawdling, we have work to do!" scolded the chief over the intercom while violently waving his torch.
"Sorry.."
Sebastian glanced at the stars once more before continue patching the starboard which where damaged by an asteroid. As one of the maintenance crew, he had been outside several times, but he couldn't help marveling at the vastness and beauty of the stars every time.
After working for hours, they were given some time to rest. Sebastian and the girl were on their way to the mess hall to have a meal, when he passed the monitor, it played the same recording everyday.
"We must work together, one day! when we reach our new home-" said the lady in the monitor
Sebastian stopped to listened at her.
"our future.. no, humanity future is-"
"Sebas?" the girl called him.
"Ah! sorry.. come on Enid." He continued heading to the mess hall with her
Arriving at the mess hall, he stared at the calendar. It's been 325 years since human left Earth, their old home which was no more. They were on thousands years journey to a planetary system called Luxia. They knew they were not be the one destined to reach there, but it's their duty to preserved humanities and became the pillars for the future like their predecessor.
Sebastian sighed, he recalled 3 year ago when he just joined
the maintenance crew, a series of malfunction almost doomed their endeavour. The most catastrophic was the malfunction of the
artifical gravity system which causing them to used up most of what was of their dwindling spare parts.
Then few days ago, during 25th of December celebration, they had their last meat based food because there were no more lifestock left alive. While they could still atleast grew some fruits, algae and vegetables, everyone were frustated and began losing hope.
After eating his meal of a steamed potato and slices of tomatoes. He and Enid went outside to continued patching the starboard.
2 days later, Sebastian and his fellow maintenance crew were maintaining the power generator which in dire need of new parts, when he noticed a small object flew above them. It disappeared in the blink of an eye, Sebastian shook his head, thinking it must be his imagination.
Suddenly there was a loud
bang and everything flew away.
Sebastian able to clinged on to the pipeline, but most of his colleagues were not so fortunate. Sebastian kept clinging until everything stops ricocheting around the room.
He looked around and flew to check on his colleague who was floating nearby. Aside from a few bruises, he was fine. He looked up and noticed a pool of blood forming on Enid's head, he quickly jumped to her and brought her down, she was unconcious.
"Enid!" Sebastian tried to woke her up as he laid her on the floor
The chief approached him "how is she?" after seeing the wound, he tore his towel and used it as a bandage.
One of the mechanic informed the chief that the generator was still operational but something prevented it from powering the thrusters
"That's impossible!" The chief flustered. "Check again!"
He ordered Sebastian to bring Enid to the infirmary while he tried to contacting the bridge to inquire about the situation, but an
announcement were made
calling for all humans to gathers in the nearby mess hall or emergency shelter block.
Sebastian carried Enid to the infirmary. It was crowded, so many were injured. One of the doctor told him to put Enid in the bed nearby. The doctor strapped her to the bed and began treating her head. Sebastian stared at the monitor. He was appalled because there was an unknown spaceship docked beside their ship.
The unknown spaceship detached and then slowly moving beneath their spaceship. He heard another announcement, the captain was requesting the president to presents at the bridge.
"Father.." Sebastian murmured.
He left the infirmary and hurriedly went to the bridge. On the way, he passed several block and noticed everyone were terrified watching the monitor.
"Excuse me.. let me through.." he said while passing the crowds
Sebastian finally arrived at the bridge. He saw his father was standing next to the captain, shaking his head while watching the monitor; the unknown spaceship now latched under their ship. Sebastian went to his father.
His father was surprised to see him there, "Sebas! what are you doing here?"
"Sir president!" shouted one of the bridge crew, "they're contacting us!"
They heard hissing voice coming from the comm. "Ussaolss fruss! Soss fass
loss wortss garbitianss!" it sounded rather excited.
Everyone was stunned.
"hurss.. soss fass-" said the hissing voice
Then, another with heavier voice cuts them off. "Foss Nekthss sass ursvusess? Savurss selss dross osss doss vustonass"
"Uvess.."
They then turned off the transmission.
The bridge was silent,
everyone looked at each
other. Then there's a loud thump, Sebastian felt his body was getting heavier and slowly landed on the floor. The gravity was finally restored, but it was a bit heavier than usual.
The captain ordered one of the crew to contacts the chief and inquired if they had resolved the power issue. Sebastian's chief responded they hadn't and that he too couldn't figured it out how the gravity was restored.
"Your order, sir?" The Captain asked Sebastian's father.
"I.. maybe, we- we should try to communicate with them, telling them we are
not hostile."
"How about sending symbols or pictures?" one of the crew suggested.
They heard a beeping sound. The bridge crew shouted "They're contacting us again!"
"Hurss, Wess are Garbitianss, Wess meanss noss amuss, Wess are the Feusstess-"
Sebastian was bewildered, so does everyone else there.
"Did.. they spoke our
language?" said the captain
