She was in a dark room, only lit by the dim light of a little ball floating around her head. She was laying on her belly on the floor, her legs balancing back and forth, highly concentrated on the book before her. Her facial expression was changing every time she was reading a new page or coming across something choking or she couldn't understand. Sometimes, her long silver hair was falling in her field of vision she always grumbles before putting the rebel strand behind her ear without loosing focus. She was so into the book she was reading that she didn't even noticed the man that was standing before her arm crossed with a sever and angry stare.
«Princess!»
She jumps, caught of guard quickly hiding her book behind her.
«Ho! Chancellor!! What a good surprise, since when where you here? »
«Long enough to know that you are reading a forbidden book, again!» He snatched her book reading the cover "The art of dimensions and portals." « seriously princess?! How many times did I tell you that this kind of book has to be banned and erased from Arcadia ?! »
«Three hundred and fifty times, hum...fifty-one times now. »
« Princess! Are you going to finally take this seriously or not ?!You have the duty to protect our world, not mingle in ancient and forbidden magic!! »
«Arrrrrrhhhhg!! I know it chancellor! I'm just reading it, I'm not going too used it.»She stands up, dusting her yellowish dress.« Can I have it back please? I really like this one.»
«You are getting nothing back! You are late for your dance and etiquette lesson! Now move along! »
The old man gesture to the door, she sighs walking deliberately slowly to annoy him further and also to delay the moment to arrive to said classes.
Hours of dance and hours of "how to converse with a fellow noble" where the worse. She let herself fall on her bed head first screaming in the comfy cover. When she got her frustration out of her system, she turns around looking at the light blue veil of fabric on the top of her bed. She really like this book, and now she lost it. She sighs, annoyed and sad at the idea. Out of boredom, she lifts her hand concentrating on her finger, the sensation in them, and then murmuring some words. A ball of light started to form, she sit down encasing it in both of her hand and concentrating on it. Slowly she sees it changes, becoming a bird, then a cat, a dragon fly, a fish...she was enjoying playing with that, making it take whatever form she wanted until it takes the shape of something unknown to her. A blue marble with cloud around it and what look likes land scatter all over it. She was curious, she had seen it in an ancient forbidden book, she couldn't understand what was written, but she knows it was about this tiny world. In awe she started wondering what was living there, and why it was in a forbidden book. Being a smart girl, she figures that it could have a link with the most forbidden magic of her world: dimensional magic.
Her world was filled with magic. Everything peoples do, was involving magic: cooking, teaching, even taking care of animals, magic was everywhere, it was like air all around them, like water flowing through their vein, no one could imagine a world where magic couldn't exist, for them no magic was synonyms of dying. She was the same; she loved magic; she was using it since she can stand, she couldn't think of a moment of her life where it wasn't present and she wanted it to be there forever. But something was telling her that this world that she saw, this tiny blue marble she was able to recreate was different. She was curious, she wanted to find information on this world, but she couldn't find anything on it, she sighs, her curiosity unsatisfied. A knock at her door was getting her attention. She didn't want to bother with anything, so she just ordered to whoever that is to enter. An old lady opened the door looking a bit shocked upon seeing the little world between the hand of the young girl.
«Ho my, it's been so long since I've seen earth.»
«You know this grandma?» She was tending the little planet toward her.
«Of course, it's been so long, our world was born from it. Where did you see a picture of it? »
«Really, we are from there? Can you tell me about it? I have seen it in an ancient book, but I couldn't understand anything. »
«Hooooo, Lailyah, darling, did you go to the forbidden zone again? You know it's dangerous, specially for the only princess and heir to the throne. »
«I know grandma, but it's okay, the forbidden zone is not that dangerous you know. So far I haven't come across any trouble. I don't understand why everyone is so scared of this part of Arcadia. »
«Your mother was thinking the same thing, and she never came back alive.»
The old lady looks grim for a moment, remembering her daughter lost because of an obsession she couldn't fight off. And she was scared to loose her grand daughter like that too.
«I know grandma, but I'm careful, I'm not going to end up like mom, I promise. Now can you tell me about this world, please? »
The old lady sighs. «fine,» she took the little ball of light, morphing it into a landscape full of building and people feeling the room. The Young girl was amazed by what was before her. « A long time ago, when I was young, our world was fused with earth. We were living in Harmony us the caster and the other human unable to use magic. Earth was wonderful, full of life, full of different climate and land. Until a war broke in. A war between our family and the royal family of the non-user. We weren't a family of warriors. We didn't want to fight them, so we make a decision, a decision that change our two worlds forever. All of the sorcerers and magicians, and casters get together to cast a spell who will forever cleaved our world and magic from them. We exiled ourself in a different dimension, creating a world where we can live without any wars forever separated from our native world. Since then, the old art of dimensional magic where banned, in fear that someone will one day open a passage way between us. »
«Then, this Earth has no magic left?»
«No, we take it all with us. Maybe a little remain, but not enough for them to use it. »
«Why?»
«Because They will only used it to cause war and pain. They were not like us. They were not kind and wise, They were mischevious and violent. Taking magic with us was the only way for them to not destroy themselves with it. »
«Do you miss it?»
«No, my mother made the right choice, but I miss my childhood friend. Sometime I wish he could have come with us. But he couldn't, like me he had a duty toward his people. »
«I'm sorry grandma.»
«Don't worry dear; it belong to the past now. Well, what do you say that we get dinner now? »
The Woman make the light illusion disappear in variety a little firefly when she stands up.
«Okay let's go grandma.»
«Ho one more thing,» she holds out a book to her granddaughter,« I suggest you to be careful with your books from now on. »
«How did you get it back?» She takes it squeezing it on her chest.
«It's a secret my dear.»
They smiled to each other. She loved her grandmother so much; she couldn't imagine what she will do without her. She hides her book under her pillow and joins her granny for dinner. Like always there was only the two of them. Her father, the king, was always too busy to eat with them, but she didn't mind anymore, she knows that her father is doing it's best to rule the kingdom since the death of her mother. And one day, she will have to do it too.
After dinner she gets back to her room, getting her book, she sneaks out by a window to go laydown on the rooftop. She was gazing at the stars. She likes it on the roof, there was the cold breeze of the night, the stars, and the moon. Sometimes she could see some late icy blue birds passing by, regaining there resting spot for the night. She opened her book, resuming her reading where she was interrupted. After awhile a scaly creature came to her, bumping it's head on her hand. He was kind of long and round at the same time and graceful, it's muzzle delicate and full of little sharp teeth. Its wings transparent were like insect wings. She lifts it before her face, the golden collar on it's neck shining in the moonlight.
« There you are mischevious little runaway!» The creature put his four little front paw on her nose, she couldn't help but laugh and give it a hug. « how can I be mad at you when you are acting with so much cuteness?!» A purr came from the creature then he climb her arm before settling down on her shoulder. « I got in trouble because you weren't there today you know. The Chancellor got my book. Good thing grandma was able to get it back. » He squeals before yawning, making her smile, she then start reading again.
She was waiting for the morning with impatience. The Sun was finally almost up, she was sneaking out of the castle trying to pass the guard without a sound. She then end up stealing a unicorn and takes the road to the forbidden zone, even so everyone keep telling her not to. Walking there was hard, she feared that someone could see her, and being in a unicorn from the royal Castle wasn’t helping her to be discreet. She was Lucky that every peasant and villager were busy with their morning task. When she finally arrived to border of the forbidden zone, she ditched her unicorn, sending the beast away, before sneaking in this part of Arcadia no one was supposed to enter.
The Princess end up walking among ruins of old building colonized little by little, by wild vines. She gets to the library, browsing absentmindedly the books covered in dust. Her pet was perched on her shoulder looking in every direction nervous. She was checking a book falling apart when a loud ramble caught her attention. Her little dragon hissed, she looks at the direction where he was pointing seeing her worst nightmare. A giant humanoid creature was there, running toward them, she only have the time to run toward a corridor before it's caught up with them. She was running as quickly as she could, sometime glancing over her shoulder, it was still here, she knows it. After minutes of running she was trapped by a dead end.
She didn't know how, but the creature was before her menacing and scary. It hit her with his fist her with so much force that she was sent against the wall behind her. She was bleeding from her head, she was in a daze, in pain, seeing her dragon trying to stand up for her. She was trapped, without any way to escape. she didn't wan't to die here, she didn't want to make her family grieve because of her mistakes.
She resolves herself to use the only way she could escape. She stands up with difficulty, taking a bit of her blood, she started to draw on the wall as quickly as she can while her dragon was distracting the giant. She traced a big circle, on it's top two triangles pointing down then another circle and writing in ancient language. She called her dragon, when he put himself around her neck, then she clapped her hands on the center of the drawing. The lines start to glow red creating a vortex of light. The only thing she could remember was the giant screaming angrily and the sound of something hitting a brick wall.
