When Demons come Helping

The accident

The accident

Nov 01, 2018

This is where it all started, my beginning and end. If ever I'd known it would be my last day being human, I would have never left the house. Let me not rush into this. Besides, I have a lifetime to tell my story. My name is Lola, in a few hours, I'll be dead.

"Austin, wait up!" I said, jogging to catch up with him. "What's wrong this time?" I asked, slipping my arm into his.

We had just parked the car two blocks away from The Bunny Hut, where we had made our dinner reservation. Friday was our couple's night out. After watching a movie, we'd pass by a fancy restaurant to close the night.

Ever since we left the cinema, Austin had been acting more weird than normal. I was used to him zoning out, but not this much. He was basically shutting me out!

"Reservation for Austin and Lolita," I said to the lady at the door. She took our coats and led us to a table by the window. The night view was beautiful from where we were seated. Our table was candle-lit and Indie music was playing in the background.

"Are you seriously going to shut me out the whole evening?" I asked, reaching for his hand. He looked away from the window and let his gaze fall on me.

"You look nice," he said.

"Thank you," I replied. "What's up?"

"Let's not ruin the evening," he said, gesturing for the waiter.

"What can I get you?" He asked, tablet in hand.

"We'll have two mugs of apple cider and today's special," Austin said, handing back the menus. I hadn't even had a look. What if I wanted something different?

"De-alcoholised cider for me," I added before he left and Austin scoffed. "What?"

"I never get why you wouldn't take even a bit of alcohol," he said, taking his hand away from mine. "Live a little."

"I can still be happy, have fun, emotionally free without the influence," I shot back. I was tired of his constant ridicule. "That's why I don't drink, and I am living!"

"Goodness, keep it down Lola," He said, angered. "Don't ruin the night with your drama."

"First, you bring this up and I'm the one who's dramatic?" I replied, hurt. "I never understand you sometimes."

"Neither do I," he shot back.

"Here you are," Pete said, putting our food and drinks on the table. "Enjoy your evening."

Even with a spicy burger and fries before me, I could not help but gag. I was feeling very uneasy. Usually, I'd be stuffing my face. I did my best to eat half of the order before I excused myself to use the ladies. I pushed the door open and rushed to the toilet bowl, throwing everything up. It took me a couple of minutes to wash up and head back to the table. To my surprise, Austin was gulping down his second mug of cider when I got there.

"Too thirsty?" I asked, weakly.

"I knew you'd say no if I had another so, I took the opportunity while you were away," he said, smirking.

"Could we leave, I'm not feeling too good," I replied. I stood by the door with our coats in hand and waited as he paid.

"Thank you," I said to Colette as we put on our coats. I tried to smile so as to reassure her that I was okay. She had this concerned look as she watched Austin struggle with his zipper. I shrugged it off and followed him out. I buttoned my coat and slipped on my gloves.

"Are you ok to drive?" I asked.

"Yeah," He replied.

After I'd buckled up, I lay my head on the window and shut my eyes. In minutes, I was fast asleep.

"OH SHIT!!!"

I felt a sudden rush as the car swerved and my eyes flew wide open. I was instantly blinded by bright light and the screeching of brakes made my insides float.

"AUSTIN!!!"
