Mia
Song of the chapter: Kung fu fighting by Carl Douglas
Let’s get one thing straight. I’m not a main character. I’m not a villain or a hero, and I am definitely not a love interest! I go to Main High, where everyone trains to become a main character in their own story. The only reason why I’m going, is to find out how to AVOID becoming one. I never liked being the center of attention. It’s makes me feel like I’m going to pass out. Everyone here though, wants it. Hell, they crave for it.
In Main High, no one goes unnoticed. Even the unpopular kids get their own spot as a Main or, at least, a Side. A Main is a person that gets to become the main character of a story of their choice. A Side, gets to be one of the Main’s friends or helpers in said story. I wanna be a Blank. A person that no one will remember, no one will bother me or make me feel like shit. In other terms, I don’t wanna come here, but like my mom always sings “We can’t always get what we want.”
In this world, we get picked to be what we are at birth. Our whole lives are based on trying to become a main character. When we’re born, we get put into three categories. Main, Side, and Blank. Blanks are babies that are born without a face. They don’t get a story, not even be side character. I got placed into Main. My sister too. When you grow up a bit, you get to go to school! Yay! Not really. From there, it’s people asking you what you have, are you a Side or a Main? What story to do you wanna be a part of? Do you have anyone that you like? All the usual bullshit. Hell, the most popular Main’s would have the obnoxiously crazy hair that somehow is natural and sit by the window at the back of class.
I’m the opposite. My hair isn’t naturally crazy and I sit as far from the window as possible in the front. I try to keep a low profile while I’m at school and if I see something that could spark me becoming a Main or Side, I get as far away as possible. Don’t get me wrong, I like people. One of my friends is a Side. I just don’t want the drama it causes. People always end up getting hurt one way or another and I don’t have time for that.
My name is Mia Williams. I know, basic. I’m 17 years old single and staying that way. I have short purple and blue hair in an undercut style, that I styled myself, with hazel eyes. I wear glasses for camouflage and I work at my aunt's bakery just a few blocks from my house. I like to see myself as cute and chubby. Well, cut out the cute part. That might start something. I’m five foot two and full of sass. Seriously, don’t fucking mess with me when I have a bad day, like today.
“Come on Mia. One little date, is that too hard to ask?”
Meet Lucas. The school’s beloved Main. For real, how does a guy like him even get loved? Lucas has been harassing me for a couple of weeks now, trying to get me to go out with him. He made a goal for himself since we started high school that he would date every girl here. I’m not the last one, but I sure as hell am not going to out with a jerk like him! He even looks like one. Five foot eleven with a smoking hot bod, and spiky hair that makes him look like a candle. Seriously, it does. It’s blonde with bright red tips. His face usually holds a cocky smirk and his nose is bent from getting broken one too many times but for some reason it works for him. I’m not saying he isn’t hot, he is. I just don’t like him.
“Lay off Lucas! I’m trying to get to class!” I yelled at him.
He grabbed me by my backpack and pinned me to the wall, both of his arms were trapping me. His bright blue eyes staring straight into mine. “Pretty please with a cherry on top?”
I glared at him. “No.”
“How about a kiss then?” He moved his hands to my waist and I swear to the Gods my skin felt like someone dumped a bucket of spiders down my back.
“If you wanna kiss someone, go to the girl’s locker room. There are plenty there that would kill to do more than that.”
Lucas moved even closer, if that was even possible. Our heads were inches apart at this point. I think he’s trying to seduce me, but I can’t really tell. “You know, you wanna,” he whispered and squeezed my butt.
That’s it! I headbutt his face. Lucas pulled back with a yell, holding his nose with both hands and you could see blood trickle down from between his fingers. “God damn it!” I didn’t answer, I just ran my fat ass to class.
As soon as I arrived, I quickly slid in my seat just before the teacher came in. I’m saved! Hallelujah! Brysiese came in shortly after and sat next to me.
“I saw you talking to Lucas again,” she whispered. “What did he want this time?”
I sighed. “The usual. ‘Date me Mia. Kiss me, you know you wanna’” I did my best stupid version of him.
Bry giggled. “You should be happy. Someone is actually paying attention to you other than me.”
“How many times do I have to tell you, I don’t want it. I get enough attention from you and my work. That’s enough for me.”
“And I still think you’re stupid for thinking that.”
Brysiese is my only friend here. Because I keep to myself, I don’t have a lot. She came over to me one day during middle school during our lunch hour. Just sat right down and started talking to me. When lunch was over she just picked up her stuff and left me in a daze. The next day she did it again and again the day after that, until we just became friends. Bry has long lavender hair and grey eyes. She has sort of a Gothic look, always wearing long black skirts and jackets that stop at the floor. Her eyes always looked bored or tired, depending on the day and what we do. She also tends to use me for her experiments from her little potions, the brat.
As class started, I started to drift off. English history always tend to do that to me. It doesn’t help that the teacher is so monotone most of the time. I ended up falling asleep within twenty minutes, and let me tell you something, you know your teacher doesn’t give a shit when you can sleep in the front of class and they don’t even give you detention. A few minutes before class ended, Bry woke me up.
“Do you know who lead the army to invade Britain?” she asked.
I yawned. “What year?”
“43 B.C.”
I thought about it for a moment. “I think it was Aulus Plautius. He led a forty thousand man army into Great Britain. Then Emperor Claudius made it a part of the Roman Empire. I think they called it The Roman Conquest of Britain. That’s the only one that I can think of from that time range, but you wanna look it up before you quote me.”
Brysiese wrote it down with a nod. “Thanks Mia. I always know to ask you something when you sleep.”
“Why?” I asked, more awake now.
“You answer things correctly and you go into more detail than the teacher.”
I glared at her. “You’re a dick, you know that?”
She smiled at me, but it looked really creepy with her eyes. “I can be even worse to you and you know it.”
I stretched and felt two hands grab my wrists and pull me down until my arms were pinned on the desk behind me. “Hey babe.”
I narrowed my eyes up at him. “You just can’t leave me alone for ten minutes, can you Lucas?”
His smile was back on and you could see some blood still on his chin from this morning. “You’re really flexible. Are you like this in bed too?”
His head was just far away that I couldn’t hit him again and my arms were pinned down. I smirked. “I can show you just how flexible I really am.”
Lucas’s eyes got even more perverted, looking me up and down. “Oh yeah. Show me baby.”
I kicked my desk away really quickly and pulled my leg to kick him in the face. He got knocked back from the force and I used the force to stand up from my seat. Lucas was on the floor covering his nose. It looked like it was bleeding again. “Jesus Christ! And it just stopped too!”
“Fuck off! Can’t you see I’m not interested?!”
He rolled his eyes. “Oh please, everyone wants me.”
Oh my God! Can he be even more of a dick?! “Say that to my ass Lucas! I don’t wanna date you!”
He walked over with a rare straight face. His eyes were cold and blood was still trickling down his nose. “Turn around,” holy shit he sounded pissed.
“I’m sorry? What did you say to me?” I glared at him.
“Turn around. Now.” I hesitantly did as I was told and felt hands on my ass. To make it worse Lucas was rubbing his face on it. “Please date me!”
I gave him a roundhouse kick, sending him flying from the room into the hall. Brysiese had picked up my bag for me and gave it to me before I left, walking past an unconscious idiot.
