Beep beep! Beep beep!
Lucy woke up and shut off her alarm. She was dreading today. The weekend was over so now she had to go back to school.
She put on a dress, grabbed her backpack, quickly brushed her blond hair, and went downstairs for breakfast.
There was a beautiful aroma in the air of syrup and Lucy began to make her way to the kitchen. There, she found a woman with red hair making pancakes.
"Good morning mother." Lucy said quietly.
"Good morning Lucy," the woman replied. "Can you go get your brother please? I-I think he's still asleep." Her voice had a strange quivering sound.
Lucy sighed. "Mother did you remember to take your medicine when you woke up?"
The woman shook her head "n-no I don't like it. What did I forget this time?"
"Cole is at a friend's house. They're still trying to get rid of school." Lucy sat down and started playing with her food. "I wanted to help but Eli was like 'you're just 8, you can't help us' so Cole just said 'yeah just go stay home you're too young to understand.'" Lucy demonstrated by using two pieces of bacon. "Mom, do you think Cole hates me?"
Lucy's mother left the kitchen after making Coles breakfast. "I don't know sweetie, it's hard to know what he thinks."
"Do you know when Theo is coming back?" Lucy asked as she took a sip of orange juice.
Lucy's mother came back with some pills. "I don't know probably Christmas," she said as she took the medication. "You should probably leave now or you'll be late. I'm going to go back to sleep.
"Okay," Lucy said as she finished her food.
She went outside and hoped she could think of some excuse, any excuse, to stay home. She thought of none. Sighing in defeat, she began walking to school.
After a few minutes, she arrived at school. The school was somewhat large due to the fact that it was both an elementary school and a middle school. It had two floors, the first floor being kindergarten to 5th grade while the second floor was 6th to 8th grade. Lucy saw her brother, Cole, enter with his friend, Eli.
Lucy went to her classroom, ready for yet another day of teasing. Third graders are apparently very cruel. She doesn't know why, but all of her classmates hate her.
The teacher was already in the room when Lucy arrived.
"Alright class!" She said with a plastic grin slapped on her face. "Today we will be doing a special assignment so I need everyone to group up!"
All of the students began to run around the classroom. All except for Lucy who sat in the back of the classroom by herself.
"Everyone in a small group already? Excellent!" The teacher exclaimed, ignoring Lucy in the back.
Lucy got up from her desk to leave the classroom. Every time there was some sort of group assignment, she would leave the classroom and no one would notice. She grabbed her backpack and started heading towards the playground once the students started their assignment.
Lucy was not the only student who skipped class. However, she was the only one from the elementary school.
While on her way to the playground, she got side tracked when she saw two boys talking on the stairwell.
One of them stopped when they saw Lucy. It was her brother, Cole, and Eli.
"L-Lucy, what are you doing skipping class?!" Ted said, hoping that she would forget what she saw.
"You're skipping class too." Lucy said. An idea came to her head and she smiled. "I won't tell anyone if you two play with me!" She was always optimistic despite not having any friends.
Cole hesitated for a moment. "Actually, I don't think we can. We were on our way to um... Eli, where were we going again?"
"Um yeah right the thing!" Eli said in a flustered voice. "Very important thing, big kids stuff, you wouldn't... you wouldn't understand..." He tugged at Coles arm to go back upstairs.
"Oh okay..." Lucy said. "...could we maybe play later then?"
"Maybe if I go home I might not sorry gotta go bye," Cole said as he was dragged by Eli.
Lucy sighed. She was truly rejected by everyone, even her own sibling.
When Lucy got to the playground, she realized she didn't want to be there. She climbed the fence and went into the nearby woods.
Lucy found a nice spot, clear of any bushes. There were a couple of middle schoolers smoking by some trees but she didn't really care. It's not like they wanted to play either. They hadn't even glanced in her direction...
She sat down on the ground and opened her backpack. She pulled out a blanket and some Monster High dolls. Her favorite one was Robecca.
"Well, at least I'm not completely alone," Lucy said to herself as she brushed the dolls hair.
The middle schoolers decided to head back to class.
"Oh. I guess I am alone now. Oh well. It's not like this is new or anything." She somehow managed to say this calmly.
Snap!
Lucy looked up as she heard a branch break.
Someone was walking towards her. No, it wasn't that boy that changes every girls life. Well, her life did change, but not because of a love story. Also, this wasn't a student either. It was a tall man, thin and pale, wearing a light blue suite and a light blue top hat with a light blue cane. Jeez, how many times did I say "light blue" in that sentence.
Is that a teacher?! Lucy suddenly felt nervous. She had never gotten in trouble for skipping class before.
"Pardon me, little girl," he said in a soft and caring tone, "but why aren't you with your fellow classmates?"
"...Because no one likes me." Lucy said after a moment.
"Why is it that they don't like you?"
"I... I don't really know." It was the truth. Lucy truly didn't know why she was hated.
The man sat down next to her. "What's your name?"
"I-I'm Lucy."
The man smiled. "What a lovely name. It means 'light,' doesn't it?"
"I don't really know. My dad named me."
"And where is he now?"
Lucy didn't know what to say. "He's, um..." she began to fidget. "...upstairs."
"He's a teacher at the middle school?" The man inquired as he raised an eyebrow.
Lucy shook her head. "No, he's upstairs upstairs." Her eyes shifted away from the man as she blushed. "...like, with angels."
"Oh I see. Well, I know a thing or two about angels. Would you like to know why?"
"Why?"
"Because, Lucy," the man stood up. Bright blue wings began to unfold, "I myself am an angel."
Lucy beamed, "whoa really?! That's so cool!"
"Oh, forgive me, I don't believe I've told you my name. I am Erik."
"Erik, that's so cool that you're an angel! So do you fly around and help people?!" She jumped up and ran in a circle, her arms spread apart, the way a child might imitate an airplane.
Erik laughed at her enthusiasm. "On occasion. I'm normally a Wish Holder."
"What's that?" Lucy asked with confusion.
"A wish holder," he explained, "is someone who holds wishes after they're granted. Sometimes people make lots of wishes and that's why it takes a while for them to be granted." His wings folded an disappeared. "The job of the wish holder is to make sure everyone's wish is granted!" He said in a very cheerful voice.
"That's amazing!" Lucy began jumping up and down.
"Yes, I suppose it is." He chucked to himself. "Do you know why I'm here?"
"To hold someones wish?"
"Well that's one of them. I'm actually here for a number of reasons. One of them being that in your guardian angel."
Lucy gasped. "So does that mean, you're like, my friend now?!"
Erik thought for a moment. "Hm, in a manor of speaking, I suppose I am."
Lucy was ecstatic now. "That's so great, I've never had a friend before! We could play games together and watch movies and hang out and do fun stuff everyday!" Her eyes lit up at the thought of everything.
The angel laughed. "Yes, we can. However, there is something important that I must inform you of."
Lucys head cocked to the side and looked at him with curiosity.
"Another reason I came here is to help you unlock your potential."
"My potential?" Lucy blink repeatedly. "What's that?"
Erik began to explain that, "potential means-"
He was quickly interrupted by Lucy, "I meant what's my potential?"
"Oh, right, sorry. Lucy, you are made of magic!"
She said nothing for a moment.
After a few seconds, she spoke. "What?"
