If you close your eyes even for a second you can hear the song of the forest. The whisper through the trees. The rumble of the waterfall and the thrumming of the wolves paws. Wait wolves I open my eyes and load my bow I watch over the field of sheep then I see him. A wolf in the long grass stalking a year old lamb he bunches his rear legs ready to leap but i’m faster. I let the arrow go flying and watch as it hits its target in the wolfs shoulder. She fell to the ground tips barely hitting the lambs body howling in pain. I took my time getting to the wolf so he knows how bad he messed up. When I got over I watched him bleed I sighed quietly and tied down his neck so he won't escape. Now i’m not near as bad as the other villagers because we're all sheep farmers so if you spot a wolf what would you do? Kill it of course! But I never found the heart to. I pulled out the arrow and quickly stitched the wound and wiped off the blood. By this time the wolf was awake and growling at the rope and me. Almost every time it breaks my heart to find something helpless, mostly wolves. For they really didn’t deserve this, being killed for just trying to live! But that was my job, protect the sheep at all costs and kill every wolf. I grabbed my bag and rummaged through till I found it. I pulled out a chunk of beef only bought a few weeks ago. I dangled it in front of the wolf's nose and walked towards the forest placing the meat at the forest's edge. Many villagers believe the forest to be haunted for if you go in you’ll never come out. I find it as completely illogical. The forest is actually pretty airy and not that dense. You also have the fact that the only dangers is really the wolves. I walked over to cut the wolf free. She's a pretty wolf a light ginger coat with amber eyes. I cut her free keeping my back towards the sheep and watch her get up. She stares me down looking ready to attack. I do a simple trick that deters almost every wolf. I twitch the knife in my hand making it glint in her eyes. She yelps and runs to the safety of the trees. I clean up the ropes and grab the bloody arrow. I almost drop the arrow onto my foot as the town's bell rings marking four ‘o'clock.
“Well there goes that” I say to myself as I yell and herd the sheep back to the barn. By the time I’m finished It’s six and already getting dark. I walk down the paths of the village and watch as the side shops close, lights flicker out, and the traditional song getting prepared by families. Are town was under strict rules by the church so unless you have a job there will be hardly any freedom. I quickly ran back to the Inn where madame Sherry is waiting. She is a round woman but has a joyful personality if you make a good first impression. But in all honesty she's as strict as the pope himself! By the time i’m at her side i’m out of breath. She clicks her tongue and shakes her head while a few strands of her golden hair fall from the tightly made bun.
“Your late!” She says gruffly
“Sorry Madam I lost track of time while I was putting away the sheep” I didn’t dare tell her about the wolf. She hated wolves and thought of them as a demonic pest.
“Well don’t do it again!” She paused and took in a breath
“A boy has been deemed a man so they are coming to the Inn. I need all hands on deck.”
“Drunkards” I mumbled she laughs and ushers me inside. Hazel my friend was at the counter for the rooms. I wave and drop my weapons and bag onto the counter and flip a coin in the air watching it land on the wooden desk.
“Got one today” she lowers her voice to a whisper. I nod slightly looking over my shoulder. I like Hazel she's a good friend and to me the only one with common sense! Really she doesn't care about the wolves but she doesn't hate them. I look at madame Sherry and walk up the stairs behind the counter to my room. It’s a small little place but, I never really stayed here that long. I always work or at least I'm doing something. But today I just wanted to flop on the bed and rest, but I can't. I quickly through on the work uniform madam gave me. And ran down stairs I got down just in time as the first few villagers came in. The boy came in and wobbled over to the bar shaken from the excitement. He quickly ordered a beer and turned to the crowd. We couldn't really pass him the beer so Hazel handed it to me. Every time its deeming ceremony the men always get drunk and me and Hazel always have to go up stairs and wait it out. I gave him the beer and turned. Instantly I hear the glass shatter behind me and hands on my waist as the boy pulled me towards him.
