Bakugou could hear Kaminari’s sobs before he could see the other boy. He walked into the apartment using his emergency key after knocking, alot, and getting no answer. He was supposed to meet up with Kaminari for coffee, before their shared class today, but he didn’t show up to either, and wasn’t answering his phone.
Bakugou quickly combed through the usually messy apartment, which was now spotlessly clean. If he didn’t know something was wrong before, he definitely did now. He did a walkthrough of the whole place. The kitchen had no dishes on the sink, there were no empty cans or bottles on the coffee table in the living room, and the bathroom mirrors had been cleaned. Finally he reached Kaminari’s bedroom, after deciding to respect sero’s privacy and not invade his room when he’s not there.
Kaminari’s room was usually very cluttered. There were always projects covering his work table, and schematics on the floor. His bed was never made. His clean laundry was usually a pile on a chair in the corner of the room, and his closet was never actually used for his clothes, save for some of his fancy formal stuff, he has for special events. But when Bakugou walked in he was met with the sight of a made bed. A reorganized closet that now had clean clothes in it. Hung and colorcoded. There were piles on the floor of different projects he hadn't finished. The work table’s drawers have been removed and were also laying on the floor. The schematics that were usually scattered everywhere were either matched with their projects, or in a neat pile. The only thing left resting on the top of his work table.
He found Kaminari sitting on the floor with a label maker, screaming and sobbing, but otherwise very calmly labeling his drawers and tools before placing them inside.
This all happened in mere seconds. The second bakugou saw denki, he stepped over the many engineering projects, and knelt next to the smaller boy. He gently pulled the label maker out of his hands, and set it next to himself, before turning Kaminari’s head to look at him.
“Dunceface, what happened?” His tone was serious. Not a hint of malice. But it wasn’t necessarily soft either. So Kaminari just pulled away and cried harder at the sound of his nickname. Hiccuping and shaking he tried to get words out but failed, and just reached for the label maker.
“Whoa, Whoa Kaminari, what’s going on?” Bakugou said, grabbing Denki's hands to stop him from grabbing the label maker. He didn’t know why he needed it, but it seemed that Kaminari wouldn’t be able to focus on more than one thing at a time. And Bakugou needed that one thing to be him. “Hey, I need you to look at me right now!” he growled, and that finally seemed to get kaminari’s attention.
Kaminari’s eyes widened, as if he just now realized that Bakugou was there, “Bakugou?” he hiccuped.
“Yeah, it’s me,” Bakugou relaxed a little bit, “what’s going on? You missed class.”
“I What!” Kaminari was frantic again in a split second and went to pull his hand away from Katsuki, but his grip was too strong.
“It's fine, I can give you my notes, it's nothing too big. Now can you tell me what’s going on?”
Kaminari’s crying is dying down a little bit, but there are still tears streaming down his face, “I don’t know, there were just so many- so many things. And it was so messy and I couldn't think and I didn't know what to do. Sero’s working and midterm projects are due soon and-”
Bakugou cut him off, “You were overwhelmed?”
Kaminari nodded.
“So you cleaned the whole apartment, That’s what you’ve been doing” Bakugou had no clue what’s going on.
“Yes! I’m such a mess i’m never going to get anywhere in life and i-”
“Hold on, don’t say that. You’ll do fine.” Bakugou grumbled. He figured this wasn’t the best time to be ‘mean’ as kirishima would say.
Actually, speaking of Kirishima. He is probably better at this stuff than him. He figured Denki was having a meltdown, and he knew a little bit about how to handle it, but not a whole lot.
“Kaminari, can you tell me what you’re doing right now?” Bakugou asked, as gently as he was capable of. He was an abrasive person, sue him.
“I’m labeling these projects so I can keep them organized,” kaminari said. He was still crying, but he seems to have calmed down, apart from the hand that has moved and was now gripping his. He hopes that was a good sign.
“Okay. I’m going to call Eijirou, cause he’s better at this than I am. But until he can get here, do you want me to help you?” He was very careful with his wording. He didn’t want to accidentally trigger something like when he said Dunceface.
Kaminari just looked at him for a moment, seemingly surprised by his softer demeanor. “Please”
He sounded so meak. This boy who he loved so much, was hurting and Katsuki couldn’t stand it. He always thought of Denki as someone who was always light hearted. He knew that he had trouble with school, but once he got help, and a little bit of caffeine, he was usually able to actually focus, and believe it or not, the boy was pretty damn smart. But Katsuki never thought to look below the surface. He never thought how it might affect Denki that he needed to rely on others. He never thought about how much pressure Denki put on himself. And now that he has an idea of it, he hates that he didn’t know before.
He sighed. “Okay, I'm going to step out, grab us both some water and call Kirishima. He’s probably getting out of class right about now, so he should be here soon. Then you can talk to the both of us about what’s bothering you. For now, you just keep labeling, and when I get back I'll help you put it together neatly, and in a way that won’t fall apart when you have to take things out and put new things in. Does that sound good?”
Denki sniffed and nodded, “Sounds good.”
Bakugou wordlessly, but gently, pulled Denki's hand out of his and handed him the label maker, before walking out of the room.
He left the door cracked, and walked to the kitchen while clicking on Eijirou’s contact. He went through the fridge, which has also been meticulously labeled, causing him to wonder what else he could have possibly organized. But instead of checking he just pulled out two water bottles and set them on the counter while he let the phone ring.
“Hey Babe! I just got out of class, and I'm heading home, what’s up?” Eijrous excited voice echoed through the line.
“Don’t go home, I'm at Kaminari and Sero’s. Sero’s at work and Kaminari is having some kind of anxiety attack. He has organized the whole goddamn apartment! I walked in and he was sitting on his floor crying and labeling his projects. I told him i’d help him organize until you got here and we’ll talk about it cause you’re way fucking better at this feelings shit than i am.”
Eijirou was silent for a beat. “You said he was cleaning?”
“Yeah, i’m fucking surprised too. I’m in the kitchen right now, theres not one fucking dish in the sink.”
“I’m on my way. Just stay with him, keep him comfortable, see if you can get him to stop crying. How long have you been there?”
“Not long, maybe 15 minutes. He has calmed down a bit, so I'm going to stay with him in the room. The door is unlocked. Just come in when you get here.”
Katsuki hung up the phone. He didn't want to leave Dunceface alone for too long.
He went back to the room and handed one of the water bottles to Denki. Who had seemingly finished his labeling and was now looking for ways to put them in the drawers.
Bakugou just sat down next to him and got to work. “You know, if you put just the projects in the drawers, you could put the schematics in labeled folders and keep them in an accordion or maybe we could get one of those really small filing bins.”
Kaminari startles a bit, but takes the water, “You think that’d work? They wouldn’t get mixed up like they used to be?” He had stopped crying now, but his eyes were still puffy, and when he looked up at Katsuki he still looked like a kicked puppy and it broke his heart.
“Of course it’ll work. I came up with the idea,” he rolled his eyes. He figures that since Kaminari has calmed down he should be able to be a little bit more normal. Maybe familiarity is a good thing.
They set to work putting the labeled projects into the drawers in a comfortable silence. They would deal with the schematics afterwards, when they can go to an office supply and get some folders.
It isn’t long before they’re almost finished and Kirishima walks through the bedroom door. “Hey, guys!” he said in his usually cheerful tone, “I brought donuts!”
And true to his word, he held up a box from Dunkin donuts. And Denki smiled. It warmed Bakugou's heart.
They sat there for a while, and ate their donuts before Eijirou finally brought it up. “So you did some cleaning today, I can see.” Even though he was smiling, Katsuki could hear the worry in his voice.
“Yeah I um, i needed to do something you know. There is so much going on I need to fix something.” Denki looked down. “I’m feeling alot better now, and it was kinda stupid. Sorry for worrying you guys, but thanks for coming around. And for the donuts” He smiled again. But this time it was fake
“I highly doubt it was stupid bro, it happens to the best of us. Just needed some control right? You don’t need to be sorry, just maybe next time shoot one of us a text?”
Denki just nodded. “I really didn’t want to worry you. I just have that midterm project that I told you about due really soon, and I still have no clue how to finish it. I'm Not even sure I can. And that’s on top of all the other exams that are coming up that I need to study for, so I just lost control for a little bit.”
“That’s okay man! Even Katsuki gets overwhelmed sometimes. Though he usually defers to hitting things, rather than cleaning them.”
“Shut the fuck up, shitty hair, you don’t sleep when you’re stressed, you take that time to dye your hair.” Bakugou growled.
“I think that's a healthy coping mechanism!” Eijirou smiled, and Kaminari laughed.
“You don’t have to worry about worrying us, dunceface, we keep you around for a reason. We care about you, and we don’t want you to be hurting.” Bakugou stated quietly, almost, as if he was embarrassed about it.
Kaminari looked at bakugou in amazement, he knew that they were friends, and that bakugou tolerated him, but he never really believed that he actually cared that much.
Eijirou’s brow furrowed, “You do know that we care about you right, dude. Denki?”
“I- um , yeah, totally”
“Dude! We were going to ask you out today if none of this happened! Wait- No i wasn’t supposed to say that, we didn’t want to freak you out any more than you already were or anything , i just-” Kirishima sputtered.
“Goddammit shitty hair! You were supposed to help, not overwhelm him more!” Bakugou growled.
Eijirou was about to argue back, but his eyes flitted to Kaminari who was sitting still. His eyes wide, and a smile growing on his face. It was almost comical.
“Dude, you okay?” Eijirou asked, lowkey kinda worried that Denki was going to explode.
“You were going to ask me out!!!” He shouted.
“Yes, we were going to ask you out. That’s why I wanted to meet for coffee this morning. I was going to invite you over for drinks tonight.” Bakugou grumbled
“I can’t believe that I let a mental breakdown get in the way of a possible date with the two of you? You know how long I'd been thinking about that? I was into the both of you before you two were together. I stopped trying when you started dating, but oh man-”He was cut off when he noticed the stunned expressions of the boys in front of him.
“You tried?” Bakugou questioned.
“Well, yeah. What did you think I was flirting with?” Denki asked incredulously.
“I thought that was just your personality and that I was reading into it!” Kirishima exclaimed.
Bakugou just grumbled to himself. He didn’t even notice Denki was flirting at all. Oops.
“Well, then go out with us? Be our boyfriend?!” Kirishima asked excitedly
“Abso-fucking-lutely!” Denki yelled back.
Bakugou was going to regret this. They’re like fucking puppies. Really cute, annoying ass yippy puppies.
