Chapter 1 (Taj)
Today was the day I would move out of my dorm and move rooms. My old roommate, Jason, asked me to move out because he was worried about his best friend being lonely or stuck with a bad roommate since he was transferring here this month. I didn’t understand why he was so worried but I agreed to move out and understood completely when he said it was also for personal reasons.
I was very excited when I was moving out, but also kind of sad. It was exciting knowing I can get to live with a brand new person and get to know someone, but it was also sad knowing I wouldn’t be living with Jason anymore. We’ve lived together for the past year now and we’ve had lots of fun. One of my favourite memories I’ve had with him is when he got wasted at a party, brang his hook up with him to the dorm, while I was still in the dorm, and right before he took her shirt off he vomited everywhere! When he woke up the next morning and remembered what he did he started freaking out and he was embarrassed for the rest of the month.
The headmaster told me that I’d get three days off of school to move out of the room, since it was still only term one and there was nothing important going on. Today was the second day and I had already packed everything I needed. I hadn’t realised how much stuff I had with me in this room, I was actually more surprised how less crowded the room was with all my stuff packed up. Yesterday I asked the headmaster if I could borrow a couple of friends for a few hours to help me move all my boxes to my new room. I sat on my bed’s mattress and waited for Lawrence who was running a bit late. Lawrence had come running through the door a few minutes after than the agreed time. Lawrence is my best friend, his friends call him Laurie for short, we’ve known each other since 3rd grade. We begged his parents for us to go to Johnson College since they had the funds and my parents were planning for me to go to Johnson for 2 years.
“Hey Taj! I’ve come to your rescue!”
“Oh my god! How heroic, thank you for saving me!”
We both chuckled.
“So who else is coming?”
“You and Jason are the only people I asked to help. I don’t think I’ll need more than two people to come help,”
“Great! So like, which ones you wanna take first?
“Just carry the smaller boxes down and we’ll get the bigger ones later. Jason should be putting some boxes in the room right now, he came early,”
“Okay, let’s get these boxes outta here! By the way what room number?”
“127.”
For the next 3 hours we carried boxes up and down the stairwell to my new room. It’s format was identical to my old room. When you entered there was one bed and a bedside table on one side of the bed on each side of the room. Each side had a desk right in front of each bed, there was also a massive wardrobe in between the beds. To the right of the door when you entered there was also an air conditioner in the upper corner. It also had two small windows at the head of each bed. The bathroom was also tiny like my old one. 1 toilet, a small sink with 2 small drawers and a shower.
Mr. Truman came to the dorm when we were getting the last boxes to make sure Laurie and Jason would go straight to class afterwards. After getting all the boxes moved into my new room the guys were escorted back to their classes. After they left I was left with a bunch of boxes.
I sighed, “Time to unpack,” I blurted out already so tired.
I had no order in unpacking stuff so I just decided what would be easier first. While unpacking I noticed that my roommate had decorated his bed and desk in a really basic style and had lots of swim posters. My guess is that he’s part of ‘the school's pride and joy’ the swim team. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve ran into some of the guys on the swim team and they’re chill. It’s just so annoying how the only thing people in this school thinks about is sport! Like none of the art or music programs at this school get any recognition, it’s always the sports team or a really smart person that gets the school's recognition. I think it’s great that these things get recognised though I think other things are equally as important.
I was finished unpacking everything about an hour later, all I had to unpack were my clothes. I had a bunch of clothes so i knew it was gonna take the longest. I opened up what seemed to be my side of the wardrobe but it already had a bunch of clothes. I opened the other one but it was just like the other side. I didn’t want him to get mad at me for moving his stuff so I decided to just leave it there until he came back. I looked down at my watch. It was 2:45pm, it was only around 15 minutes I'd have to wait anyway. I decided to pull out my laptop and read some of the novel that I’ve recently been reading.
