Foreword

Foreword

Nov 24, 2023

Hello and thank you for taking an interest in this project. I’m Mo, the translator, and I wanted to start this with a little explanation about what you’ll be reading.

I’m a researcher and part of a team studying other dimensions. By this, I don’t mean 2D versus 3D or parallel timelines split off from choices we make, but entirely different worlds from our own. Our current theory is that these worlds exist in the same space as the world we know but in an entirely different state of being that keeps them separate. I won’t bore you with all the technicalities. The main thing you need to know is that there are ways of moving between these other worlds and our own through a phenomenon we’re referring to as ‘portals.’

For just over a hundred years, my team and our predecessors have been studying artifacts from these other dimensions that have arrived on Earth. While we haven’t found much evidence of visitors from other dimensions travelling here, we have identified several disappearances in history that we believe can be attributed to portals.

The topic and efforts of our research are fairly unknown so, in a bid to increase awareness (and hopefully improve our funding), I’m translating one of the texts we’ve found from another dimension for you to enjoy. The original was written in Tirkadaz, the dominant language from Dimension 7/L, which we colloquially refer to as ‘Cona.’

We aren’t certain if this text is fiction or not, but if it is based on real events, it certainly has been dramatized quite a bit. We’re pretty confident it isn’t a personal account, since it seems that it was written some years after the story takes place and is credited to a renowned author known by the moniker ‘Dandelion Prince.’ My personal opinion is that the novel is a retelling of a popular myth.

Since the novel was written for an audience not of our universe, I’ll supplement my translation with notes explaining the references we understand (to the best of our current knowledge). Additionally, I’m localizing some of the text to try to facilitate your understanding. At this time, unfortunately, I can only do a North American localization. If anything is unclear, please feel free to leave comments, and I will address them when I can.

I plan to publish a newly translated section of roughly the same length each week. However, I suffer from a chronic pain condition, and my supervisor only authorized this project on the condition that I put my health first. If I’m late a week or miss a week here or there, I ask that you be patient with me.

Thank you so much for supporting this project and giving us a chance. I’m so excited to share this work with you!

Happy reading,

Mo Silverstein (she/her)
