The blood blurred Ellis’ vision; a burst of dense steam shot onto him and brought him to his knees. The air got thicker and thicker. What was once a water purification plant had now become a sauna.
He looked over to detective Kelly and saw her lips were moving. Hissing pumps, clanking pipes, and overheating climatizers screamed over everything else.
The only thing Ellis could hear was a high-pitched beeping sawing its way through his brain.
On the ground next to him was Rosa, unresponsive. His eyes shifted back to detective Kelly; next to her, Joel appeared. He was on his knees and had a stab wound in the shoulder.
“Please make it stop.” Ellis begged.
He clutched his ears and buried his face in his knees. “Breathe, Ellis, you fucking dumb-ass, breathe.” He kept saying to himself.
“BEHIND YOU!” Kelly screamed. She fired; the bullet missed its target by mere inches. Ellis snapped back to reality and dove towards Kelly. The killer melted back into the mist. “Are you hurt?” She asked him.
With tears and blood in his eyes and snot running down his nose, he could only shake his head while frantically scanning the room, crawling on the floor, and trying to get back onto his feet.
“Rosa!” Ellis screamed, “She is still there.”
“You stay with Joel; take this knife.” She looked around. “Stay back to back, keep your weapons up, and wait here. I will get her.” She took some steps until she faded into the mist.
