Fated pairs were rare. According to textbooks, there was less than a .05% chance that an alpha or omega would actually meet their fated partner in their whole lifetimes.
A few days after the start of Hana's freshman year at Nagahara High, he was just getting ready to study at his usual spot when he felt a tap on his shoulder.
He knew from touch alone, before he even turned around, that his fated one was right behind him.
The other boy was also a freshman. There was gauze over his cheek and an unopened can of beer in his hand. When he noticed Hana looking, he quickly set it down.
For a moment, all they could do was stare awkwardly at each other.
"Your name...what is it?" the boy asked.
"Hana."
"Hana. I'm Ayase Shuri."
Hana closed the textbooks in front of him. "Sorry, I should get up..."
"It's fine."
Shuri extended a hand and helped Hana up. His grip was firm but not too tight.
They were right in each other's faces after Shuri pulled him up. Save for the gauze taped over his cheek, Shuri had a rather unassuming appearance. A face that would be easily forgotten and drowned out in a sea of faces. But up close, he had a pretty boyishness about him. His eyes were a pale blue, like the winter sky at dawn, and they gazed intensely into Hana's.
Hana couldn't help but blush wildly. Yet he couldn't look away.
"Class isn't for a while," Shuri said. "Would you like to take a walk with me? I think there are some things we might need to discuss."
