Late but, if anyone needs the direct translation for the series [Soul Pact: Working for an Evil God to Pay Off My Debt 欠债亿万，被迫成为邪神打工人] (as compared to the official translation/localization):
欠债亿万，被迫成为邪神打工人 (Pinyin: Qian Zhai Yi Wan, Bei Po Cheng Wei Xie Shen Da Gong Ren), the OG Chinese title provided by Tapas, would be translated to something like “In debt by hundreds of millions, I was forced to become a worker/working slave for an evil god.” or “In debt by trillions, I was forced to become a worker/working slave for an evil god.”
If we break it down:
Qian Zhai 欠债 = “Owning in Debt” / “In Debt”, etc. (Verb / Noun)
Yi Wan 亿万 = It can be either translated to “Trillions” or “Multiple Hundreds of Millions,” depending on what the author means. (Noun)
- Yi 亿 = 100 Million(s) or 0.1 Billion(s)
- Wan 万 = 10,000(s) (but then, it also mean symbolically just alot of ______ or if used in 万物 (wan wu) as 10,000 Things, meaning “All of Existance”)
- So the combo of these 2 characters (亿 & 万) means either the literal 0.1 Billion(s) * 10,000(s) = 1,000 Billion(s) / 1 Trillion(s), or the metaphorical “Multiple” or “Alot of” 100s of Millions.
Bei Po 被迫 = “Forced to” (Verb)
Cheng Wei 成为 = “To Become” / “Became” or “To turn into” / “Turned Into” (Verb)
Xie Shen 邪神 = “Evil God(s)” (Likely a singular evil god here)
Da Gong Ren 打工人 = Means “Worker” but like also a Chinese meme that symbolizes working nonstop and being toiled away everyday with the amount of work given
- Related to the meme of 996 and 007
- 996 meaning working from 9am-9pm 6 days a week
- 007 meaning working from 0am-0am 7 days a week (Basically non-stop hell, “keep working till you die” type)
- If we break it down even further, 打工 (Da Gong) means “To work” and 人 (Ren) means “Human” or “Mortal” or “Conscious Being.”
