The man who was holding me in his hands looked rich. His red robe was engraved with gold and the look in his eyes was telling me that he was used to having his commands executed before he finishes them. He raised me and displayed to the public before starting his speech.
"Our dearest guests, you were honored to witness this ceremony. This means that your trust and loyality are very precious for the Nocturne family."
"Be quiet, noisy priest. No need to be so pompous," was what I wanted to tell him, but, sadly, I couldn’t speak.
As I couldn’t shut him up to go to sleep, the man continued, "The act of naming holds deep significance. In this rite, we are entrusted with assigning a name that will resonate through the years, carrying with it the essence of who this child is and who they will become."
I already have a name. Alice. Though, neither my new parents nor anyone else around me can find out about that since i can’t properly control my body. Also, my mana is too weak for now, so I have no way of giving a message. Even if I had, using it might not be a good idea, as it can lead to them thinking that a demon of some kind has possessed the body of the child.
It wouldn't be that far off. As in my first life I and my master died confronting the "gods", I can be named a "demon". Although, as for me, if there are those in this world who can be called demons, then it is those who call themselves gods.
While I was thinking, the man in the robe continued his speech "As we contemplate this naming ceremony, we are drawn into the mystery of life and the vast potential that lies ahead for this little soul. We are reminded that each name carries its own unique melody, echoing the hopes, dreams, and prayers of those who bestow it."
The people in the hall of the church were hypnotized by the man’s rough voice. However, I wasn’t. As you could understand from my cool attitude, I wasn't surprised at all by my rebirth.
The priest dipped his finger into the vessel with a red liquid. Then he skillfully drew a crest on the top of my bald head and a line on my forehead. Warm liquid flowed down into my eyes. To show him how irritating it was, I cried.
The man ignored me and proceeded, "For the glory of the mighty Citadelorous, deity of mind and soul, I grant you the great name of Zane." Suddenly, he smiled, and his smile was warm enough to stop my cry, "Welcome to the world, Zane Nocturne."
Feeling that I had fulfilled my duty, I fell asleep.
