He had been walking for over two millennials. Cursed by the god of time from the first second of his life, he could not age or die even when humans have gone extinct. Only ruins and fossils remain. Every time he saw an old abandoned building made him remember the ancient times, starting as a young poverty-covered child and to a powerful king ruling over the world to seeing the end of humanity by their stupidity. He built his reputation and kingdom from the ground up and then saw it crash and burn. It has been 1000 years since he last saw and talked to a human being. Trying to keep himself sane, he lived with and studied different kinds of exciting animals and kept his observations in a notebook. He would spend centuries studying a fascinating species and fill over 100 notebooks.
Even if his hobby was keeping him sane, he was still incredibly lonely, longing for someone, anyone, that he could be able to interact or talk. He missed his beautiful wife, who died simultaneously with the other humans. He missed her cute porcelain face, her crimson red eyes, and the smell of her freshly shampooed, silky, long, black hair in the wind. He wished that he could be with his wife once more. She was the one that supported him on days when he doubted his choices as ruler of the world. The one that was always on his side even when no one else was. The one that would listen to his cries for help and hug him when he desperately needed one. She was smart and kind but had a sadistic side that made her even cuter. He desperately wanted to see her face, to be able to talk and argue with her for, at least, one last time.
But, as more and more years pass, his wish is not a wish that can be granted. At this point, the universe was near its end. The nighttime sky gradually has fewer and fewer stars. The sun had lost its bright yellow and was now a menacing dark red dot in the sky. Even our planet was not an exception to the imminent down rise of the universe. Deserts were becoming so hot that the sand melted and became a sea of lava. The water ocean watering and most sea animals and vegetation were long gone. Earth became barren and looked a lot like how one can imagine how hell looks like. Despite all that, the immortal king kept on living. He might be immortal, but that doesn’t mean he can’t feel pain. His whole body was burning from the heat, and his throat regularly got third-degree burns each time he tried to clench his thirst with water. Yet, he doesn’t seem to care about it.
He wanted to end it all. It wasn’t the hellish place that earth had become, nor was it about seeing the last remaining trace of a human civilization getting swallowed by flames. He was going insane daily, year by year, from loneliness. The king missed humans, animals and vegetation. He spent his days lying down on the ground looking up at the sky while being blinded by the glowing red dying sun. He kept on moving forward, not for himself, but for the hope that the memories he had won't be forgotten.
Millions of years went, and he was still walking. The sun is now near the end of its life and getting hotter daily. To keep himself sane, he tested every possible way to die. The pain hurt him, but he felt it kept him rooted in the earth, and he felt like a human.
Another million years went by, and the sun exploded. The star's explosion destroyed everything in the solar system except for him. He's now floating around in the dark while suffocating from the lack of oxygen in space.
Billions of years went by, and the neighbouring galaxy was on its way to crashing into the Milky Way. He was still floating in the dark, wishing for something to do other than counting stars which were getting less and less by the day.
Trillions of years went by and the last of stars were on the brink of death. The King went from watching the end of his kingdom, species, world, galaxy and now to his universe. He's tired of always being alive and just wanted to end it all.
As the last of the stars collapsed, the old king was ready to give everything away to be able to die. He lost all hope that someone, anyone, would remember the planet that he once called home, but he was possibly the last living being in the universe.
End.
Hey!, Xunz here, this is a short book that I started writing a few months back and I forgot about it. It seems a little mean to delete it, so I've completed it and published it here. I'm still new at writing books so I would love to have some feedbacks, but I hope you like it!
