-THE DISCOVERY OF THE BODY
Rain poured heavily over the streets of Tokyo, with raindrops piercing the darkness of the night. In a quiet district, despite the apparent calm, the high school at the heart of this chapter buzzed with activity and dark secrets.
In the principal’s office, Ren Haruki was reviewing case files, but his gaze wasn’t fixed on the papers before him. Instead, he was staring out of the window, which revealed the rain-soaked streets. He was a tall man with jet-black hair that brushed his shoulders and eyes as sharp and blue as the winter ocean. The furrowed lines of concern on his forehead reflected the complexity of the cases he dealt with, yet he displayed little outward sign of the stress, as if he had grown accustomed to such pressures.
The phone rang, breaking the silence that had filled the room. He glanced at the screen, picked up the receiver, and said in a calm voice, "Haruki."
“Detective Haruki? We’ve found a body at a high school here. We need your help.”
The voice on the other end was tense, and Ren realized this case was unlike any other. He cut off his conversation with the police and prepared to move. Minutes later, he was heading to the school.
Upon arriving at the school, Ren was met with a crowd of students and teachers gathered around the scene. The faint light from the streetlamps cast a shadowy atmosphere over the place, adding to the air of fear and anxiety. Ren stood among the crowd, surrounded by security personnel and police officers trying to manage the situation. There was no time for waiting or hesitation; he moved towards the location where the body had been discovered.
The place where the body was found was in one of the school’s hallways, near the sports field. The body lay on the ground, covered by a white sheet. Beside the body, a collection of scattered evidence, including papers, a pen, and a book, was visible. Ren carefully examined the scene, taking notes while the officers cleared the area.
The lead officer, a man with a gray beard and a stern face, approached Ren and said, “The body belongs to a student named Mika Yoru. We haven’t been able to determine the cause of death yet, but there are indications that this is a murder.”
Ren nodded, observing the body intently. Mika was a quiet student with a good reputation, and no one would have expected her to be the victim of a murder. There were no obvious signs of violence, but Ren knew that small details could hold the key to solving the case.
Ren looked around and noticed a student approaching the scene. The student appeared distraught and on edge, his eyes filled with tears. He introduced himself as Ikari Satsujin, one of Mika’s classmates. Ikari spoke with a trembling voice, “I know it might sound strange, but I saw her just a little while ago at the school. I never expected this to happen to her.”
Ren regarded Ikari and said gently, “Can you tell me more about Mika? Was she facing any problems or threats from anyone?”
Ikari replied slowly, lowering his head, “She didn’t have any enemies. She was just a shy girl. But, there might have been something strange happening recently. She seemed troubled.”
As Ikari spoke, Ren noticed another person wandering around the area. This person was Nakae Haru, another classmate of Mika’s. Haru seemed ordinary, but Ren felt there was something unusual about him. He decided to speak with him later.
Ren continued his work at the crime scene, collecting evidence and documenting every detail. As time passed, he began forming preliminary theories about how the crime might have occurred. However, he didn’t have much information yet. All the evidence seemed incomplete, and everyone appeared scattered.
After hours of work, Ren decided to return to his office to review the evidence and start piecing together an initial picture of the event. He sat at his desk, analyzing the information he had gathered. Questions piled up in his mind: Who had the motive to kill Mika? What did the evidence mean?
At that moment, the lead officer called him, informing him of a new report from the forensics lab. The initial results indicated that the murder was carried out in an unconventional manner, and there were some clues that might help identify the perpetrator.
Back at his office, Ren examined the evidence and planned his next steps. He knew this case would be challenging and that every move would be crucial in unraveling the mystery. With each new idea, he felt he was getting closer to uncovering the truth.
By the end of the day, as the rain continued to fall, Ren sensed that this case might be more complex than he had anticipated. However, he had faith in his ability to solve it. He sat at his desk, looking over the photos and evidence, ready to delve deeper into the web of mysteries surrounding “An Unusual Case.”
