Many liberties have been taken with this work, but it is based off true experiences in a psychiatric ward. The first story is meant to provide the "mundane truth" of what happened, while the other stories are imagined(?) by the narrator. The narrator is 17.
I do not wish to glorify suicide nor do I want to glorify mental illnesses. This is just a story that happened to someone who coincidentally experienced suicidal ideation, manic depression, and almost uncontrollable homicidal thoughts. Mental illness has always been tiptoed around or stereotyped into pseudoscience, so I wanted to provide an honest perspective on actually having a mental illness without the prose or poetry of a typical novel.
If you are having suicidal thoughts or think that you may have a mental illness, NEVER look at literature for confirmation and consult an expert. If you are unable to consult an expert, it's fine to turn to the internet so long as you take the information as a grain of salt. Mental illness isn't cool or quirky, it's mental illness.
