Quickie this time. The next chapter of Call Me Mara is too long for the character limit, and it divides best into thirds. So I'm releasing 13.1 today, 13.2 Thursday, and 13.3 next Tuesday.
Expect monthly releases -- bi-monthly at most -- starting in September. I've too much of this tale to tell to let it sit idle, but I've too much to juggle to write it as swiftly as I'd like. The work I'm doing is worthy, though, and I'm sure you'll all see it in time. It will only give me wider leverage to forge this nascent epic.
The curious can see what's taking up my time at bifrostcreative.com. I hope to dazzle all of you with the stories yet to come!
Looks like Call Me Mara made the Featured list this week. A warm welcome to all the new subscribers this honor has brought =). I don't know whom to thank, but I'm grateful for the recognition. It heartens me deeply to see how others enjoy the fruits of my labor.
To celebrate, I shall schedule two chapters for release this week. One will drop at the usual time today, and the other at the same time Thursday.
I'd also like to share a bit more about where the rewrite stands. I'm presently halfway through Chapter 16, which means y'all actually aren't too far behind me. There are a couple of chapters I might have to cut in half due to the character limit, but even so, there is a chance I'll have to reduce releases.
Progress has slowed because I'm putting a lot of time into a new enterprise I've founded: one minted to provide a wider bridge to the realm of artistic achievement. Fittingly, I have named it Bifrost, and I'll share more about it soon. For now, just know that it is as worthy a distraction as a storyteller could hope for.
As I am committed to finishing this rewrite, I will promise monthly updates at the very least. If Bifrost performs well enough to steady my finances, I'll go beyond my previous plan and post the entire rewrite here. And however I publish, I'll see about shipping out some free hardbacks to my first fans ^_^.
Thank you all for reading. Please share your impressions if you can; they'll only help me spread the tale and further the causes I serve!
Just wanna quickly shed a li'l more light on the plan going forward. As I said, I'm posting the Call Me Mara rewrite both here and on Inkitt. What I didn't say ('cause I ran out of space >_<) is that the Tapas version will stay 3 chapters ahead; with the original right here, I wanted to get y'all into the new stuff more quickly.
The second of the two chapters posted today is the first that's entirely brand new. I hope returning readers will enjoy learning about Wonders in clearer terms. I also hope readers new and old will look forward to the new arcs to come. I can assure you that my character work has gotten somewhat stronger =).
Please share it around and let me know what you think! The more comments I have to support publication, the sooner I can get the finished product out. Thanks a mil, and stay safe out there!
Nearly a year since my last formal update, and boy, has it been a ride. I'm sure no one needs reminding about the ever-increasing chaos. I'm in the nation that seems most determined to tear itself apart amid the plague, but despite this, I'm fortunate to be able to say that I have some positivity to share.
I've been up to a lot, from working as a script reader and story analyst to collecting contacts in the entertainment industry. I've met some great people and learned a great deal, and the crisis hasn't slowed me down. Now, I'm in training to found a new enterprise: a collective I'm determined to build on a foundation of fantastic animation.
But I digress. I'm here to speak of Call Me Mara, a tale I've promised to continue. That's a vow I mean to keep, but before I can, the foundation must be refined. I started Call Me Mara to participate in a contest, and reading it back, I found it somewhat rushed. Further, I've grown as a writer since then, learning lessons that I aim to apply.
I've begun a page 1 rewrite of Call Me Mara: the last time I intend to refine it before properly publishing in one form or another. I'm doing this to deepen the worldbuilding, round out the cast, and strengthen the expression of the themes. The bad news is that this means the sequel is gonna be further out. The good news is I started in January, so I'm now about halfway through.
I'm only going to post that first half online, wherein you'll find new scenes, new lore, and new characters. The rest you'll have to see when I publish, but know that however I do that, I'll do my damnedest to see that my beta readers here and on Inkitt can get a free or discounted copy. My chief beta reader has seen the changes already and consistently responds enthusiastically.
I'll be posting the new chapters starting tomorrow. The originals will remain so all who come by can see my growth for themselves. I hope you'll indulge me at least once more. Thank you all, and be safe!
Belated thanks for your interest! It has indeed been a while, but I still wanted to reach out to say that I am working on something. More details to come before the end of this month. Hope you and yours are staying safe and sane =).
Been even longer since the last time I said it's been a while. I've been wanting to post an update, but because of the persistent feeling that it's not a good time and my desire to have something to show, I've kept putting it off. Today's a seventh, though, and I do love sevens. So today's as good as any.
I'm sorry to report that my situation remains as chaotic as ever. In times like this, it is difficult to focus on the tales I post here since I must devote so much effort to work that pays in the present or may open doors in the more immediate future. I don't expect the stories I share here to gain traction until I do, and I've always been fine with that. Alas, they must remain on the back burner until I manage to find my footing.
I just wanted to share this post to let y'all know I'm still alive. I still work on Mara's story, the wider Auberalean Tales, and mythological tales as I'm able, but I can't say when I'll have an update. When the day comes that I can resume regular posting, I just hope some of you will still be here =). Until next time!
Been a while, hasn't it? A lot's been going on in my world since my last communique. I'm still trying to break into entertainment proper out here in L.A. Times are hard after all these months, and I can't always maintain my optimism. But one thing hasn't changed: I love writing more than life itself, and I've no intention of giving up.
So, I added a bit to Call Me Mara, my favorite and most popular tale on this platform. I have plans for this story: plans to edit what's present so far, hire a cover designer, and self-publish the result. I've been planning the next arc on and off for several months now, and with the existing content sitting at 370 pages, this arc will *definitely* be too long to just be a second half (not least of all because it's still only the second part of 3).
What I posted on 3/7 at 4 PST was the first of three entries I'm writing to get you all primed and ready for the next adventure. These will exist neither in the edited manuscript nor in the follow-up once I finish that. They are treats for you, my very first fans, and for my Patrons if I ever nut up and launch =P. Having released one, I plan to release the next two in April and May respectively. If I'm not in a solid enough position to resume regular updates by then, I'll be certain to let you all know.
I think that'll do it for this dispatch. Thanks to all of you for your ongoing support of my creative endeavors ^_^. Feel free to hit me with questions if you've got any!
I figured this was as good a time as any to let all of my subscribers, old and new, know that I'm still alive =P. I'd also like to share the end-of-year wrap-up that I shared in the forums. 2017 was the worst year of my life, but it inspired the explosion of creativity that 2018 was. Last year, I:
--Learned a new language: Dutch. I'm not confident speaking with native speakers, but I can carry a conversation.
--Spent a month in the land of the Dutch, the Netherlands, marking my first international excursion.
--Moved to Los Angeles, where American writers go to find success.
--Wrote 2 feature screenplays, 3 TV pilot screenplays, and 2 short scripts in one month.
--Wrote another feature, another pilot, and another short.
--Learned to read scales on sheet music.
--Broke 100 subscribers on a single story (Call Me Mara!).
--Brought Call Me Mara to an immensely satisfying conclusion at 370 pages (though Mara's tale is not yet done).
--Initiated outlining and planning for seven more features (a psychosexual thriller, a science fantasy adventure, a Man of Steel-style Christ story, and four Dragon Ball films), a video game (Superman), and an anti-authoritarian tale for the kids.
--Went from 15 to 594 followers on Twitter (at the time of this writing).
--Secured paying copyediting and ghostwriting gigs.
--Wrote a number of periodicals and poems on Medium.
--Managed to get a Medium publication to publish one of my articles.
In terms of writing, 2018 was my most productive year by a ridiculous margin. This is me making up for lost time; I should have been doing this years ago. I'm happy that I'm finally doing everything I can to live up to my potential, and I hope to be writing as prolifically as this until my dying day.
I hope you'll all look forward to the tales to come ^_^. Thank you for your support thus far!
It occurred to me it might be imprudent to let this come as a surprise, so here's some news: Call Me Mara is coming up on its last release for a while. In point of fact, it'll be going on hiatus after Episode 50, which means there are only two left.
Let me just say that it remains a pleasure to have all who receive this message following my work. I'm firing on all cylinders in an effort to turn writing into a full-time gig, and the support you all have shown me keeps me feeling assured that I can. So again, I thank you, and I hope you'll continue to enjoy my stories and share them with others who might like them as well ^_^.
Episode 50 represents a massive milestone in Mara's journey, the culmination of everything she's done and suffered thus far. The hiatus should let the episode's magnitude sit for a spell while I plan the arcs to come, but Mara's story is far from over. Expect her to return in early Spring 2019, when we'll arrive to see her at least a decade into her "stolen" destiny.
In the meantime, I'll be editing a novel I've been hired to work on (my first such assignment, so woohoo!) and continuing to plan, write, and pitch screenplays. Those of you who follow my Mythologia series will be pleased to know that I'm also planning a third and fourth set. One will retell some of the lesser-known exploits of mortal heroes, and the other will center on the sins of the sorry souls we've seen condemned to Tartarus. I also still owe y'all one more entry in the Star-Crossed Cycle, so expect some more Mythologia before Winter's end =).
Lots of writing to do, as always, but I'm as eager as ever to do it!
Congratulations on the editing job! I've been following your story Call Me Mara for awhile now, trying to bing read to catch up, and it's flawlessly amazing and takes my breath away with each chapter and it's beautiful, full details! Please keep up the awesome work and your writing is tremendous and inspires me to push myself in my writing. Great work!!
So, a li'l overdue, but last Sunday, Call Me Mara broke 100 subscribers. That may not be a ton, but it represents a huge milestone to me as a guy trying to make this writing thing work full-time. I'm sincerely grateful to all of you who've taken the time to read my work and decided it's worth following. It's been incredibly motivating to have your eyes on my story. I hope to keep entertaining y'all and many more for many years to come ^_^.
As a show of gratitude, I'm going to update Call Me Mara twice this week. Today's episode is already scheduled. On Friday, I'll release another alongside the final installment of my romance short story, 'Til Death. It'll be the last part of the Nyktalae series of episodes, which are themselves the climax of this invasion of Auberalea arc. I hope you'll enjoy them both.
Now sitting at over 300 pages in Word, Call Me Mara is really plenty long enough for a singular novel at this point. But, since I do have so many following it (and since the description promises "the heights of power *and* the depths of despair), I'll not be stopping there. I'll be taking a decent break from it soon, but trust that there's a great deal more to the story of Mara. When I go on hiatus, we'll only be about halfway through. This thing 'bout to be a doorstopper ;P.
So stay tuned, tell your friends, and thanks again for reading!
