As the last queen of the Hagwarders, a guilt-ridden doll must protect a despairing human from the living nightmares of her past, or the Hagwarders’ future will be swallowed in darkness.
For a Hagwarder, they don't want to break windows or rely on stealing keys, so they travel through mirrors to enter places humans want to keep to themselves. A bathroom, a hallway, a kitchen, a vanity - anything with a mirror is open to a Hagwarder if, and only if, they have a key. A key can be any possession of a human, and if the human is near to a mirror, a Hagwarder can find them.
Hello, folks. Today, now that we've seen the introduction of Wetweave, we wanted to talk about how she came to be, just like we did with Raggie.
Her face and hair haven't changed much since their inception, but it's the clothes that make the man, as they say, and those changed a lot.
The first design was a simple nightgown, but that was too "samey" and vulnerable. The overalls came next, but changed to a hoodie and sweat pants to make her look like she was from the modern day, and you can see the differences in this image here, as compared to the comic.
She carries a flail with an actual metal head as compared to Raggie's wooden sword, because she needs to have that "confidence of youth". Her choices will reflect that, both good and bad.
So say hello to Wetweave.
A year is gone,
and then, and then--
A brand-new twenty double-ten.
We still go strong,
but when, but when--
in brand-new twenty double-ten.
The pages come,
again, again--
in brand-new twenty double-ten.
It might be slow,
we are but men--
in brand-new twenty double-ten.
But we won’t stop,
not now, not then--
in brand-new twenty double-ten.
Merry Christmas, y'all! For Christmas, we bring you "lil'warders", where everything that isn't part of the main storyline goes. Updates whenever we think of something cute and/or funny. Enjoy!
There will be a lot of weapons you’ll see, and since Raggie is the first Hagwarder introduced, you ought to know more about her broadsword.
You’ll notice it’s large compared to her, much larger than most warders are comfortable with, but the length advantage outweighs the extra heft, and it can even be used as a shield.
It's made of wood, but just because it’s wooden doesn’t mean she can’t use a metal one. She certainly could, even though it would weigh much more. When it comes down to a Hagwarder’s weapon choice, it’s personal preference.
A hag is a creature of dreams, and when fighting one, it doesn’t matter what material a weapon is made of. A wooden sword can slice through anything in a dream, if you know where you’re swinging it.
That’s not to say all the Hagwarders use wooden weapons. Salvaged tools, “found” metal weapons--perhaps even stolen! Each warder is individual, but the most common weapons are wooden ones, since forging something is dangerous for beings made entirely of cloth.
As Raggie is currently dragging herself through the guild, it’s a good time to delve into The Doll House’s design and the thought behind it. The current building, inspire by Pidhirtsi Castle from Ukraine, is a gigantic, multiple-floor mansion, big even for humans, which means it dwarfs Hagwarders.
It went through a few iterations, and while the original may have been a bit cozier—like a sort of schoolhouse—the current iteration seen below was brainstormed with the help of Anontheanon, who made full blueprints of the floor layout. We wanted a place for them to live that felt isolated but could also truly exist. A place that could house many all at once, while also keeping them feeling out of place—as if they were occupying a space they didn’t belong in, much like The Borrowers.
In the grand scheme, they are small, and that’s okay.

We started on Monday, and we hope that brief taste was enough, but an explanation is in order. Answers to why and how and what and all that.
We chose to move the comic to Tapas to reach a wider audience. The website helps by providing a listing elsewhere without the need to pay for advertising. As the comic regularly posts, it will be visible on the front page, and if enough people like the comic, it will remain there. That’s not the end of it, though, we’re looking to make physical copies available in the future, so whether it remains on Tapas is yet to be seen.
We want a publisher if possible, which is what we’re querying about, but we didn’t want to wait for one before giving it to you, so you all can see the digital version bit by bit while we hunt down a place to help us make the comics a reality you can hold in your hands. That’s coming in the future, though, but you’ll have it one way or another.
That’s a little bit of where we are, what we’re doing, and what’s coming. It’s an immense relief to finally have this see the light of day, and we hope you enjoy what you see in the coming months. It’s only going to get better.
