The left one is more detailed, but the right one is cuter: it's not so obvious which is actually best (or even which one is the older).
The right one has a lot of anatomy flaws as well as less dynamic lineart and pose. °_°
Thanks for the compliment on the old one but unfortunately it can also be understood as "You haven't improved much in 12 years", so please be careful when you phrase it like that. It's generally safer to say you like the bigger eyes better. ;3

I've been to AniNite in Vienna this weekend and it was a bombastic event! Also, I've taken part in the fanart contest which had the topic "fairytales"...
AAAH, I WON! >////<
The two on the drawing are Utena and Anthy from "Shoujo Kakumei Utena".
I recommend the anime so, so much! It's intense, yet subtle and next to a stunning art style shows many astonishing themes such as genuine willingness to help, egocentrism, love, true nobility... I love it!
