Now for a sneak peek of Chapter 30:
I breathed in and I breathed out. I knew this was his door I was standing in front of. I hadn’t seen him go in here, yet I could smell him — pine, sandalwood and leather. I could hear him. Perks of being a vampire now.
He was holding a guitar, sliding his fingers up and down the strings, making a metallic whine, but not playing. Every now and then, I heard him exhale.
I stood there in front of his door, my hand hovering as if I was going to knock, but some part of me just couldn’t bring myself to do it. How could I face him? I had attacked him violently. I bit him. Then I did the unthinkable and tried to claim him as if he were mine. I even shouted it.
Mine!
I pulled my hand back from the door. No, I need to apologise. I wasn’t myself, yes, but that was no excuse.
I took a step forward and prepared to knock—
“Would you just come in already, Vixen? A guy could develop grey hairs waiting on you.”
I scoffed. There was that nickname again. I opened the door, and he was lounging on a leather couch, a guitar in his hands, barely looking at me. Though annoyed, my guilt hadn’t gone away.
“Look, Darien, I’m so sorry that—”
But he interrupted me.
“Do you think you’re the first to go feral over me?” he asked, grinning as he finally looked up, those intense purple eyes catching mine. I knew now they were truly that supernatural colour and not some fun contacts he’d worn for theatrics.
He was deflecting me. I decided I wasn’t having it.
“Still, it’s no excuse. I am sorry I attacked you and called you… mine. That was inexcusable.”
Darien’s expression went carefully neutral, and he stared at me. I felt as though I were being scanned by an X-ray, as if he was trying to decide something about me. He sat up, setting the guitar aside on the couch.
“Are you really?” he asked, his voice softer now.

Now for a sneak peek at Chapter 29:

The first thing I heard was a low hum, deep and steady, coming from the man in front of me. I could hear it. His blood. Rushing. Thick. Warm. My fangs elongated on their own, aching, my hunger sharp and screaming. He wasn’t prey - not really - but he was something, something that could fill the fire inside me. I needed it. I needed him.
“Elen—” he began, but I didn’t let him finish. I lunged, growling, claws and fangs, an unhinged eruption of need. I was on top of him, my teeth exposed. He grabbed my arms as I sank toward his neck, but he rolled, throwing me off. I hit the ground a few feet away, eyes locked on him, and hissed. He was already on his feet, watching, frozen. He wasn’t going to get away from me that easy.

Part of me fought it, recoiling from the invasion, but another part — reckless and unchained — welcomed it.
In the darkness, I surrendered. And once I did, the pain was gone.

Chapter 14 recap!
In this chapter we are in Darien's POV following a violent confrontation that leaves Elena gravely injured and him forced to make a life-altering decision. After saving her from a brutal attack by another vampire, Darien realises she might die unless he intervenes - and in doing so, he turns her into a veilbound (a made vampire), crossing a taboo line in his world. He then cradles her unconscious body (swoon!) and speeds through Averon City to safely get her back to his place for the final turning. In a scene that can only be found in a gothic rock music video, Darien brings her to the altar of his converted church home. He faces the consequences of his choice, realising he must help her adapt to her new state while dealing with both guilt and an unanticipated bond.
