This Episode is literally a huge foreshadowing introduction that hints a lot of what the gangs' motives are-it's meant to be dark and use shock value. You can get a glimpse that it's a pretty brutal mafia story with extortionists and extreme corruption BUT the US tends to not include Chinese Americans into this equation (the twins introduced are Chinese), with good reason, as the Chinese tend to be more on the discreet side in US history. Mafia stuff always includes Italians (like the main character Luciano in the next ep), but it makes a lot of sense that these dumb teens would be less suspicious in terms of such acts.
The story DOES talk about various forms of social issues, but will be done as respectfully as I can with the help of my diverse beta readers backing me up (that also includes me and my experiences)
