Hallo, sorry I fell off the face of the earth during the second half of February, but let's get right back into it! So, I googled writing prompts and I found a tumblr post that made laugh.
Prompt: Imagine a world where sharks swim in the forest and somehow you find yourself lost in the woods. (I'm going to write in third person about random people)
Time limit: mmmm 40-45 minutes
3. 2. 1. Let's begin:
"M-Maeby? Is that you?" April called for her twin sister. The sudden twig snap had quickly sobered her up from sleep. She had only walked about ten feet away from the campsite to do her business. It was too late and too dark to go any farther.
There was another snap and April gasped. "Nope, nope, nope. I'm done."
The girl quickly pulled up her pants and practically bolted back to her tent. Once inside, she let out the breath she was holding and double checked to see if the entrance was properly checked.
Maeby moaned as April tripped over her sleeping bag in order to get to her own. "What's wrong with you?"
Sleep had made Maeby's voice groggy, but she could always tell when over paranoid sister was having a panic attack. April was extra clumsy then.
"I thought I heard a shark," April said snuggling her sleeping bag closer to her sister. If they were closer together, the sharks might confuse them for one giant blob and swim away.
Maeby turned her back toward her sister and sighed, "It was probably a squid or something,"
"Ugh, I could have sprayed with ink." April said trying to fill the gap her sister made when she turned away from her. "I don't know what's worse, squid ink or sharks,"
"Sharks, April. Sharks are definitely worse." Maeby said hoping that it would end the conversation and she could go back to sleep.
And it was... For at least three hours.
"Maeby..." April whispered. She never actually got to pee and she tried going back to sleep, but she kept waking up every hour. Now she was about to burst.
"What," Maeby whispered after a beat.
"I have to pee," April said biting her lip.
"So, go," Maeby grumbled. "You're a grown woman, I don't have to hold your hand."
Maeby generally was a pleasant person to be around, but she had a long day of hiking and setting up the campsite. April of all people knew she also wasn't a happy camper if someone woke her up. And now her sister had woken her up twice, her patience was waning.
"B-but, what about the squids?" April squeezed the edge of her sleeping bag in her hands.
"They're tiny little things, they won't come after you, I promise." Maeby said and there was a long pause before April spoke again.
"Ugh, come on Mae, I don't want to go alone!" April's whining only made Maeby more annoyed.
"No!" She said firmly. "Just scream if your in trouble,"
"Fine." April said after another minute of contemplating if it was worth leaving the tent. It was. "But if I die, I am so haunting you,"
"Sure, whatever," Maeby said as her sister left the tent.
Maeby was finally drifting back into her dream when she heard the piercing cry of her sister. Maeby shot up from the ground, her eyes were wide open and her heart was going a hundred miles per hour. If her sister was screaming about squids she was going to kill her.
As if reading her sisters mind April screamed as she got closer to the camp, "It's not a squid! It's not a squid!"
Maeby did her best to get out of her sleeping bag as quickly as possible, but she fumbled on the zipper. Panicking had made her clumsy too. When she finally freed herself she grabbed her pocket knife and half slipped on her boots. Maeby opened the flap of her tent to see her sister wobbling toward her with her pants around her ankles.
It would have been a comical scene if a Hammerhead hadn't been charging after her. He had been sprayed with shark spray and was practically blind, but April had been making enough noises to pinpoint her location, even if the shark was deafened too.
Maeby had to think quick. She ran back inside the tent and grabbed an air horn. She ran toward her sister, who practically tripped into her when she was close enough.
"Hold your ears," Maeby instructed her sister and she obliged. Maeby squeezed her eyes shut and pressed the top of the air horn. There was a loud cry and Maeby opened her eyes. She stepped forward and pressed the horn again and again.
The shark swam away and both girls collapsed to the ground. They heaved and said nothing for a long while, letting what just happened sink in.
"Thank goodness that wasn't a squid otherwise we'd be covered in ink," April said with sigh."
"Shut up and pick up your pants, weirdo," Maeby said rolling her eyes and trying to hide a smirk from her sister.

You guys don't know how bad I wanted to turn this into a dark and bloody mess. Ah it would have been intense, like a Jaws on land scenario, but the time limit made me second guess my typing speed. I also wanted to make it a cute ending cause it wrapped everything up nicely. Anyways, here's some fun facts about sharks: There are about 465 species of shark. Sharks mature slowly, and reach reproductive age anywhere from 12 to 15 years. Unlike many fish, hammerheads do not lay eggs. A female gives birth to live young. One litter can range from six to about 50 pups.
(On wattpad, a few years ago I wrote a fun fact about hammerheads. It's weird that I'm doing it all over again, but a good kind of weird, you know?)
