I didn't mean to rush into Sora's arms the way I did, actually while I set off that early Saturday morning for his house, I felt a little shy about meeting him again, well for obvious reasons.
I wondered if Sora would realise I had fallen for him, and as I played the scene out in my head, I found it much too embarrassing, and to make things worse my mother wouldn't tell me what they talked about and when I tried to ask my father he would grimace and then stare at my mother.
As I stood there, locked in Sora's embrace, I couldn't help but wonder why and how I had fallen for him.
Soon I pulled away from his arms and stared at his warm face as I felt a shock register throughout my body. I quickly turned away from him as I found my state embarrassing.
Sora would probably find it funny if he found out I had fallen for him.
"Sora" I said, turning back to him, but he didn't answer as he seemed to be in a daze.
"Sora" I repeated, this time I waved my hand over his face.
"...huh" he answered, as I pulled him out of it.
Something about him was different. What I mean is I saw a light in his eyes that wasn't there before.
Perhaps It's because I've fallen for him why he seems this way.
So different....
His face was illuminated as he broke out a smile to me, his eyes sparkling as they shone on mine.
"Fumiko" he said in a soft and sweet voice. "I'm surprised to see you here so early."
It was true, usually when I visited Sora on the weekends I would go around noon, but today it was only a few minutes after eight.
"I just wanted to see you" I said in a rosy voice staring at the ground. "I guess -" I was unable to finish what I was saying when I heard an unfamiliar voice behind me in the distance.
"Good Morning Sora dear!" An aged voice of a woman called out.
"Yes, it really is a nice morning!" I heard him call back.
"I see that your crops are coming up fine!" Another aged voice shouted but this time it belonged to a man.
"As always, Mr. Saito!"
I quickly spun around to see an elderly couple heading our way.
Who are they?
As I payed closer attention to them, I realised that the man was holding a hoe in his hand and the woman a gardening fork and she also had dirt on the pretty apron she wore.
"They're.....They're..... farmer's!?...." I thought, my mind wrapped in confusion.
First there's Sora, now there's this elderly couple. I need to change the view I have of farmers.
My thoughts were disrupted when I realized that the elderly couple were standing right before Sora and I.
"Sora who is this girl" the lady said placing a hand on my head. Even though her voice was aged, it still sounded sweet.
I looked at her with bright eyes and she smiled at me delightfully. She must have been very beautiful in her youthful day, now her beauty was refined, and she had a classical look.
"Mr. and Mrs. Saito, this is Fumiko."
"I don't understand, what is a girl doing all the way up here?" Mr. Saito said stepping in. He seemed equally as sweet as Mrs. Saito, however he had this sturdiness about him suggesting he must have been and probably still was a strong man.
"Fumiko comes to visit me every day." Sora said with a gentle smile.
"What?" They both remarked as they seemed to find my actions questionable.
"Young child, why is that?" Mrs. Saito asked turning to me.
I was taken aback, because I was not sure what to say. Should I tell them it's because I'm fond of Sora or it is because I have fallen for him....
"Mrs. Saito, a few weeks ago, I found Fumiko wondering around up here. It was raining and she was lost and I brought her home safely that day. Since then she has been visiting me because..... I'm lonely." Sora said staring at the ground with reddened cheeks.
He was like a cute child being confronted by his parents.
"Oh Sora, that's really very nice of her." Mrs. Saito said smiling.
"It's nothing really" I remarked smiling and waving a dismissive hand.
"Of course it is! To think that you take time out everyday to visit our dear Sora. You must be very fond of him." She stated while ruffling Sora's dark hair, making his cheeks turn pink.
"Yes, I can say I have taken a liking to him."
Those words drew Sora's attention to me, and he smiled lightly.
What am I doing, I can't let him find out that I've fallen for him. I have to stop making it so obvious.
"Well, that is because he's such a nice person and I like being with Sora."
Wait that's not helping.....
I hope he hasn't noticed.....
I threw my glance to the ground in embarrassment and fear that he might have noticed but when I glanced up at him, he only put a hand behind his head and laughed warmly.
Wow! I had almost forgotten how adorable his laughter was.
"Well I must admit, I do like being with you too." He said smiling before he suddenly seemed taken aback by his own words.
Sora likes...being with me?
As our gazes met I saw his cheeks reddened and I knew that mine were the same. I don't know why but there was something about him, something between us. Something that was alluring, pulling me towards him and him to me.
"Are you two alright? You both look like you're in a trance."
"....What?" we both said in unison, as we were brought back to reality.
"A trance. Boy you both seem to be far away." She said with a chuckle.
"I'm sorry." Sora expressed with an apologetic smile.
"Oh, it's okay Sora, in the mean time, I'll have a word with...um Fumiko dear! Right?"
"Yeah, right." I followed her to Sora's porch where we both took a seat. After a moment of watching Mr. Saito and Sora exchange words they began walking away from the porch, Mr. Saito only calling back to us saying,
"Sora and I are going out to work for a while, we'll be back soon." Mrs. Saito then turned to me.
"So Fumiko, how are you"
"I'm fine."
"So, Sora says that you visit him almost everyday. I think that's very nice. I wish that I could do the same but my age won't allow it. The distance between our houses is great and traveling up and down the place like that would surely ware my hips out." She conveyed while stroking her greyed hair.
"No, it's okay I understand. By the way you mentioned that your house is a far distance away from Sora's so....how long have you been here?" I asked putting my hands on my knees.
"You mean, how long have we been farmers" she remarked smiling.
"Yeah!" I said leaning forward, my curiosity suddenly fueled.
"Well my husband and I grew up in the country. Long story short we moved here because we heard how good it was doing in agriculture and to top it all off it was in a suburban area. It was a dream come true, a mixture of the urban life and the country."
"Wow! That's amazing Mrs. Saito." I mentioned with glee.
"Yes, if only youngsters now a days had the same passion for farming as we did. Our children wanted nothing to do with it and moved away as soon as they had the chance -" She then made a loud sigh. "I do love them though, but if they only had the farming passion that Sora does."
"Sora is like a son to you?" I asked interrupting her.
"Yes. We've known him from he was small. He was such a sweet child." She said smiling and seemingly gazing back into the past.
"Really, what was he like as a child?" I always wondered what Sora was like as a child. Now that I had the opportunity I wasn't going to miss it.
"Sora was always shy, but his bright spirit always combated against it. His heart was always kind and sweet and he cared deeply for others....as you must have noticed by now."
"Yes I have noticed. The day that I was lost....when he found me, he took such good care of me, and also he bandaged my wounds before personally taking me back." I said blushing. Just as I thought, Sora was truly a kind person, and now hearing Mrs. Saito speak so sweetly of him, I felt my love for him deepen.
Now I understand why and how I had fallen for him. Sora is such a kind person, who wouldn't?
Still though, I wonder if this is truly love or admiration.
It doesn't matter though. I guess loving Sora in the quiet is the best way for if he should find out, our friendship might break.
