When I walked into my room soft music played; Lavender incense burned on one of the dressers. While I was standing dumbfounded in the doorway someone tapped me on the shoulder. I turned to look at who it was and found a slim girl with long black hair, dark tanned skin, and bright green cat eyes. She wore a light green tank top and a short in the front, long in the back dark purple skirt and brown strappy sandals.
“Are you my roommate?” her voice was rough and sultry like those old singers from the twenty’s.
“Ah yeah. Cinderella, nice to meet you.”
“Esmeralda. Same,” we walked into the room and headed to our beds. I fell into mine not bothering to change, pulling the blanket up and over me, I fell asleep exhausted from my long day.
My alarm went off at five am. Even though I’m in a new place I still have my chores to do. Which means I have to keep my normal schedule. Every day I have to wake up at the crack of dawn so I can shower, change and head out the door. I have to wake the girls up, help them figure out what they what to wear, fix their hair, clean up their room, make the bed and get them out the door and to the dining hall. Once I get them down to the dining hall I have to leave them to fend for themselves so I can start my morning shift working in the kitchen. The days went by quickly as I learned my way around the school. I got used to my job and liked doing the work. It made the days go by faster and kept Drazilla off my back for the most part.
It’s been about a month since I started here and so far I’ve liked my classes. The teachers are nice and the curriculum is easy to follow. I was just leaving Algebra one when I bumped into someone and dropped my books all over the floor. I looked up and saw Drazilla and her friends walking by laughing as loud as they could kicking my dropped stuff with their Prada heels. I got down on my knees and started grabbing for my things.
“Is this yours?” a voice asked me. I looked at what was being held out to me and who was holding it. It was my personal journal and a guy was holding it. I took it from him and muttered a thank you. “Do you usually drop all your stuff all over the floor?” I picked up my pile of books and got up from the floor. When I looked at the guy who was talking to me my heart skipped a beat. The boy was he gorgeous. Tall, dark brown hair, brown eyes, and an amazing smile.
“I’m sorry what did you say?”
“Do you usually drop your stuff on the floor?”
“No” with that and a Really, you think this is normal? Look on my face I stepped around him and headed down the hall.
When I arrived at the dining room for the dinner shift the place was packed. I get to waitress today and I’m so excited just so you know that was sarcasm. The first table on my list I like to call the yellow club. Three of the girls wore yellow dresses, the other two wore pink and purple and the only guy at the table wore green. They all ordered tea and sandwiches while keeping their noses in the large books they were reading. My second table I like to call the archery club. Half of them carried bows and they all wore dark colors and skinny jeans. Then there is my famous table. I like to call them the prince club. There were six guys at the table. Each of them dressed in sweaters and slacks.
“Hi, I’ll be your waitress today, are you ready to order?” The guy with the longest hair looked me over and then stared at my face.
“Your name tag says, Cinderella.” No, really? Mister obvious.
“Yes, well that is my name.”
“I like it.” I look over to the guy who spoke, his hair is dark brown and cut short. His eyes dark brown almost like chocolate. He was grinning at me. It was a weird smile, the kind that says I have a secret and you need to figure it out. And that’s when it hit me.
“You’re the guy who helped me in the hall.”
“And you’re the girl who ran away.” I narrowed my eyes and him.
“I didn’t run away. I was running late.”
“So do you work or go to school here?”
“Both.”
“Why?”
“I don’t see how it’s any of your business. Now are you boys going to order or should I come back?” I took their orders and walked away. I could hear them when they started laughing and I just knew they were laughing at me.
