~Connor POV~
“It’s Miss…” The teacher said with a sigh. I sat there for a moment looking at my friends. Amy looked like she was about to burst out laughing at any second, Raith looked like he were impressed, and then there was Blake. She reminded me of a tiger that was just punched in the face by a monkey and is now looking for blood. Stupid analogy but it’s true. “I’ll be right back.” I said and gave Miss Anderson a look. She nodded and I headed outside. Looking around, I saw Enicabie on a bench near the edge of school grounds. I sighed and walked over, watching her roll her eyes when she saw me. She stood up and started walking away. I stopped her, grabbing her arm. “What do you want Connor?” She said turning to me.
“Why you mad at me all of a sudden? Last time we talked, you were laughing.” She shook her head and pulled her arm away. “Last we talked, you lied to me.” She said crossing her arms. I put my hands in my pockets, “Okay, and?” I asked. “And you don’t know me Cole! I hate when you act like you do.” All my friends called me by a nickname they found for me. Cole. Everyone called me this eventually but her. Now hearing her say it, upset me a little. What the hell? She used to laugh when I guessed what she was thinking! “You loved when I knew what you were thinking?” I said and she ran a hand through her hair. Chicks are so freaking confusing. “Just leave me alone, Connor. You and your friends.” she said on a sigh, closing her eyes. “Alright, fine.” I said and walked back to the classroom.
~ Enicabie POV ~
I’m so dramatic. Getting upset because he knew what I was thinking? I just- “Hate when he acts like he knows me so well!” I shouted, causing Milani to look at me like I was crazy. “Uh...Are you okay?” She asked. It was now lunch time, and I haven’t heard or seen Connor or his friends. “Yeah sorry.” I said laughing. “I was just getting weird.” “Getting weird? More like being weird.” She said rolling her eyes. “Whatever. Same diff.” I said and we both laughed.
After school, I told Isaiah I wanted to go to the store before I went home. He said he would go with me but I said I’d go alone.
“Hey Jack.” I said waving at the cashier boy. He was two years older than me, and absolutely gorgeous. His caramel colored skin with his blue eyes and dark hair were so stunning, it made my heart skip a beat with just the sight. I would imagine his voice just as wonderful but… He waved his right hand then crossed his two fingers before clasping both his hands together. I put my knuckles and fingers pressed together facing me then turned them up before pointing to him asking how he was. He moved his hand in sign for good and I moved my hands in turn, saying I was too. He nodded and I turned to the rest of the store.
Sad that he’s deaf, but it’s only natural to him. Not a real problem. Remarkable that he got the job though. I thought as I went down the food aisle, grabbing cup of noodles. I turned back and went to the counter Jack was at, placing them on the counter. “Same as usual?” He signed to me with a smile. I nodded laughing. In all honesty, he was the only reason I learned sign language. And I’m glad I did. I really enjoy being able to say something that no one understands. That must suck for him though… I handed over a five dollar bill before taking the noodles and heading to the exit. A pounding stopping me. I turned around and saw Jack was hitting his palm on the counter to get my attention. He then held up two dollars and some change. My cheeks redden with embarrassment as I walked over and grabbed my money, signing “Sorry, thank you” to him. He laughed and nodded signing it was fine before I turned on my heel and left.
