"I want school to be over already! This Friday morning will never pass soon enough", I was thinking to myself. The reason why I was so fixated on leaving class today, was the fact that after school, me and Yoru would hang out at his place again.
In his room.
All alone.
Hanging out at his place had become a habit of us this past week. We basically just studied and watched movies afterwards. I knew that he only saw me as a friend, but I couldn't help myself from being excited. We also met each other at school, during breaks, but it wasn't the same with all of our friends surrounding us. On the one hand, I was happy that he was finally being social and that he seemed to have fun. On the other hand, I was kind of wishing that we were alone already. I didn't even know why I was looking forward to it so damn much. Maybe it had something to do with the way he was looking at me while we were talking. In my head, he was also looking forward to spending some more time with me. I wanted it to be true, even though it was probably just my imagination. I forced myself to stop thinking about him for a moment and that was when the bell rang.
As soon as I heard the bell, I violently grabbed my bag and made my way through the door to the hallway. I was about to go and find Yoru's classroom, but I saw him already waiting for me outside mine. I think that my heart skipped a beat right when I noticed him. "Seriously... why did I decide to have a crush on him so randomly? I only know him for like... two weeks!" I thought. I took a brief second to recollect myself and I called him out.
"Hey there!" he said when he heard me. "So, I told the teacher about the subject we picked for our project and she said she likes it! She thinks that "The British Royal Family and it's History" will be very educational and interesting for us." he said as we were heading towards the school gates.
"That's cool! Then we don't need to change anything we've written so far." I smiled.
"Right. I bet we'll even finish it today!" he replied, as he hopped on the bus.
On our way to his house, we didn't speak much because I was talking to my phone with my mom. I saw my dad sitting on the sofa when I left for school this morning, while mom was still sleeping. I noticed that he didn't look very well, but before I could say anything, we had a fight over me not returning home yesterday night. Things calmed down, as I said that only mom answered when I called to inform about staying over at a friend's. He realized that it was his fault, since he didn't even bother answering nor returning my call. I assumed he was probably out drinking again. I always tried to avoid talking with him when he got drunk, because he was always in a mood for a fight. He hasn't done anything too serious, but last week, he accidentally hit mom. I hated the fact that I wasn't there to stop it from happening and I got scared that it might happen again.
I let out a small sigh of relief when I heard my mom saying that everything was okay and I decided to finish the call. That's when Yoru greeted his own mom, who was leaving for work. I hadn't even noticed that we were already outside of his house.
"Are you just gonna stand there?" he asked. "Come in!". He almost sounded playful and that was enough to send butterflies down my stomach again. I just smiled and got inside.
"Do you wanna study here, or my room?" he asked while pointing at the couch in the living room.
"I don't really mind." I replied.
"Okay, let me go get my laptop." he turned back and started walking up the stairs. "You can sit wherever!" he added and I almost couldn't hear him because I was too busy checking him out. Don't judge me! You would have done the same if a butt THIS round was passing by! My own thoughts made me snicker and I heard Yoru saying "What are you laughing at?" from upstairs.
"Nothing!" I shouted so he could hear me. I was still grinning when he came back with his laptop. He sat on the couch next to me. "Are you sure it's nothing?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes!" I laughed. "Let's just finish this assignment."
"Fine!" he replied. "I didn't want you to tell me anyway." he added almost pouting and it was the cutest thing ever. I ended up laughing again and he elbowed me to stop.
"Ouch! Fine, fine, I'll stop! Are you looking for a fight or something?" I complained.
"Not really. Maybe you're just too annoying." he teased me.
"You know what? I'm in a really good mood today, so I'll let this comment pass, if you just stop talking and do this damned assignment with me." I said, pretending to be annoyed.
"Yessir!" Yoru replied smirking. Although I was fighting the urge to pin him down, I really liked this cocky side of him. Acting like this, meant that he was comfortable around me. I felt really privileged when I thought that maybe, I was his only friend that could see him like this.
Some time passed and we were done with the assignment. "Finally!" Yoru cheered. "So, what do you wanna do now?"
I had some thoughts, but they were a bit too inappropriate, so I just said "I don't know. My parents are gonna scold me if I come back late two nights in a row."
"Oh come onnn!" he protested. "At least stay a little longer."
"I'm sorry." I answered. I really hated the fact that I had to leave, but I also didn't want my dad to be mad at me again.
"We can hang out tomorrow though." I added as I grabbed my stuff and headed towards the door.
"Sure. I'll text you." he smiled.
"Okay, bye!" I replied, trying to seem as cool as I could about it. Then he closed the door behind me and that's when I felt the most disappointed in my own choices. I had already talked to mom about Yoru and I knew she was okay with me staying over at his place. Also, for what I knew, my dad wouldn't be home until morning. I had nothing to worry about all along! Though I felt hesitant to ring the door bell, since I already told Yoru that I had to leave. That's why I just stood there, staring at the door while trying to come up with an excuse to explain what made me change my mind. The truth is that I didn't want him to know about my dad drinking and always being mad at me for no real reason. A minute or two passed and I was almost ready to give up and go home, when I heard the unlocking sound of the door in front of me.
"I really don't get you sometimes. Are you going to come inside or not?" he asked.
