It is night time and Lucy finally unlocks the box with the key that her grandfather gave her for her birthday. When she opened it, there was a letter with a red wax seal. She carefully opened it and read the letter.
Dear Lucy,
Thank you for completing the first task. Before I introduce myself I wanted to write you a letter wishing you a Happy 12th birthday. You may be wondering how I know you and why I'm even writing you this letter, but there is a reason for it. I want to play a game with you. I call it, "Finding the Missing Pieces to Solve This Clue." Pretty catchy if I say so myself. I've always liked playing mystery game but due to my being ill, I could hardly leave my bed. It's been like that since I was born. Where I lived before, it was a small village and the citizens could hardly get by. After that, there was a bombing attack and so I sought refuge in England, where I met my new parents and siblings. I was the youngest one. We lived well but not well enough. My father was a fisherman and a shoeshiner. My mother was tailor and baker. When the economy started to drop, we decided to move to Chicago. There, I made a new life as a shoeshiner. I didn't last long there and was bedridden.
All I could do was eat butterscotch candy bought with my two sister's hard-earned money. I told them to save it but they said no. Girls can be quite scary! I ate it in the end. During my time in bed, I wrote many ideas for my game creation and I finally finished it. I want you to play and only you. Only five people know about this game including me. They know that you are the players and I am your guide. So I hope for you to like this cheesy game of mine until the very end. After reading this letter, there is a family picture. Look at it closely.
P.S. Sorry for doing a bad job of burying the box for I have a weak heart. My heart was aching terribly so I had to stop halfway.
Sincerely, L.M.
Lucy read the whole letter and felt very emotional yet close to this very important person. Despite not knowing him.
"Wait, burying the box?" With the sudden realization that he, in fact, admitted his terrible skill of burying the box, she felt ashamed. "I can't believe that he was the one that buried the box. Now I feel bad for saying that dog and a baby can do better at it." She pressed her entire face against the letter of embarrassment.
"Oh wait, the picture. This person said to look at it closely, but why?" When Lucy grabbed the picture, she looked at what was behind the old image. There was writing.
It's over your head but underneath the canopy.
Thinking for an answer, Lucy figured it out.
"The attic!"
