Deeper into the Ruins

Deeper into the Ruins

Mar 26, 2018

“Hello?”

Nothing….

The girl slowly rises from the crushed flower bed moaning with pain. She automatically ties up her hair in the usual ponytail as she searched for her knife. She kept searching, her conscious reminding her to be patient, but she realised it was not there. She started exploring, when a big black tunnel greets her. She continues walking past a mound of dirt through a large door. Through it was a room, completely devoid of light, aside from a lone lone pillar of light in the center. Within that pillar was a yellow flower of no significance. There was another door on the other side of the room. The girl was in no rush to get to the door and decided to take her time. She sat down next to the flower to admire it. Sure, she had no idea what to do, but she always took her time to admire the small things in life. However, she was worried. There is a legend that whoever climbs Mt. Ebott will never return. The girl had lost her way along a trail and had fallen down a gaping hole. Being lost was not her only concern. There is another legend about a war between humans and monsters. The humans won the war and had sealed the monsters underground with a magical barrier. Anything could enter, but nothing could exit, or so the legend says.

It was assumed that monsters had a hatred towards humans. The girl hoped that suspicion was incorrect, for she had no means of self defense. Suddenly, the girl heard movement. She had no clue what to do, so she just stayed close to the pillar of light, while considering running for the door. Within moments, a monster stepped into the light. It appeared to be some sort of goat creature. It was dressed in beautiful purple robes with some sort of elegant symbol on them.

“Hello, child. My name is Toriel, caretaker of the ruins. You must be lost and afraid,” the creature said to the girl. The girl did not fully trust the creature yet, despite the tone of kindness in her voice. She stayed silent and studied ‘Toriel’ thoughtfully. “I...pass through this place every day looking for humans who have fallen.” Her voice wavering at the child's intense glare. “C-come! I will take you to my home,” Toriel beckoned.

The girl was frightened by the underground and was happy to find some kindness in it. That word…. Kindness…. After it entered her head a throbbing ache started. The world seemed to be spinning.... A invisible voice echoes “Sacrifice….” “Sacrifice…” She saw blurred images of the goat before her dying, laughing sadly as she bleeds away. The girl shook her head and decided to follow Toriel.
