A soft melody played in the background which soothed the soul. Caught in a trance and my hand moving there and back. With ought me noticing, my hand was loose causing the brush fall. Paint splattered as the brush fell from my hand snapping me out of thought. "Damnit" I cursed out loud and went to pick it up. As I looked up to see something causing my breath to stop.
In trance it seemed that I had drawn my fall from heaven. It seemed so real as if it was happening once again. The clouds seemed to be moving and the black with hints of blue wings trying to move. My hand trying to reach the sky but no one grabbed it. A tear escaped me to which I wiped away quickly. But more came and quietly began to sob.
Something soft brushed my leg and quickly looked down. Max stared at me with worry, well in his own cat way. His eyes mostly portrayed his emotion and it helped being able to speak with animals. "Are you ok?" he meowed out as he looked towards the painting. His feline tail twitched as he studied it with his emerald eyes. "It's you falling isn't it." More of a statement than a question.
Nodding as I finished wiping my tears away. "Anyway, i'm hungry which is why I came here in the first place." Telling me before rubbing his side against my leg as if to comfort me and leave. Which to that made me chuckle and got up. Not glancing back at what I had drawn and left the room. "So what do you want to eat tonight?" Asking him as I made my way to the kitchen. Not getting a response from him which meant he wanted the usual, salmon. Opening the fridge and notice to my horror that there was no salmon. "Well Max there isn't any salmon. How about some tuna?" To which I got a hiss. Looking at the clock which read 6:36 pm and groaned. "I'll be back." I tell him. Making my way out the house, grabbing my purse as I did.
It was a small little house that I had built around the 1990's for when I decided to move here permanently. It was the perfect place to fly since it was secluded yet close to a small remote town. Rarely going to town unless getting food and other necessities. If there was shipping available in my area then there would be no need for me to leave home. Stretching my wings which felt achy from not flying for a while. Taking flight into the sky still brought me happiness. The evening sun made the sky look dazzling with the forest below me becoming quiet with insects chirping.
As I neared town, not wanting to be caught. I swoop down and land at the outskirts of town. Humans luckily can't see my wings but it would be weird to see someone in the sky. Honestly now that they have advanced and can do anything with a few clicks. It has also made it more convenient for me to not have to interact with them. Making my life also a bit less lonely with music and stories. Still prefer having hard copies honestly.
Making sure my blonde almost white hair wasn't a mess. I walk out the forest and onto the sidewalk. The air not as fresh compared to where I live but it was decent compared to other towns and cities. Making my way to the store with a dozen cars in it's lot. Which was more than usual but didn't take notice. It must be groccery day for this town it seemed. It was more strange for me to walking to the store instead of driving. But my love for flying made me not care.
Entering the store and waved at the elder who sat there by the entrance greeting customers. The newest songs played quietly in the background making the store seem more lively than it really was. Going straight to the seafood section with a cart from the entrance for Max's salmon. The price for it has gone up which made me shake my head. It was ridiculous that the way of paying has changed so much. Grabbing 5 pounds of salmon already cut. A thought popped in my head. This was the perfect time to get some stuff that I was missing. Maybe even buy something to snack on even if I didn't need to eat.
Yet something felt off as I walked through the store. It felt like I was being watched yet every time I looked around discreetly there was no one. Folding my wings more closely, I began to think of the worst. Could someone be able to see my wings? There was no way they could see it unless they were not human. It's not like I could hide them since there was no need to before and never learned how. Dammit, now I regret not learning the technique.
Once I got to the checkout and was finally paying. Someone tapped my shoulder causing me to jump slightly in surprise. "Sorry, didn't mean to startle you." A male voice spoke which made me turn. "It's alright, was just thinking about something." I tell him. He was at least 3 inches shorter than me with a lanky body. His brown eyes were bright and his hair a mess. He must be 15 at most.
"Oh, just wanted to ask you why you were wearing wings?" He asked innocently causing me to freeze. What type of excuse was I going to give him? Tell him it was for some costume and forgot to take it off? That might work. Who am I kidding it wasn't going to fool him!
"Thirty dollars and seventy-nine cents please" the cashiers bored voice rang out. Quickly getting out my bank card to pay. "It's a costume for some video my friends are going to film. It was a hassle putting it on." I say using my persuasive voice to make him believe it. "Oh, it makes sense." he said as he nodded furiously. He was an adorable kid honestly if it weren't for me being so nervous. "Thank you and come again" The cashier said. Taking that as my que to leave. I grab my stuff tell him a quick goodbye and exit. Yet as I did, he asked the cashier something making me walk faster.
"Hey, her fake wings where pretty cool right?" His slight high pitched voice asked.
"Shit" Muttering under my breath and walked towards the forest. What is he to be able to see my wings? Then realize that maybe he wasn't human and belonged to the Moon goddess. Still, it didn't make sense of how he could still see my wings. Hearing something fall and notice a brush had poked its way through the plastic bag. Grabbing it and place it in my bag.
Finally arriving to the outskirt of town. No presence was near me and looked around to make sure. Stretching my wings out but hearing a branch break startled me. I was sure that no one was around! Not risking it, I take flight and fly as fast as possible.
"I swear today has been too weird for comfort" I tell myself as I land on the porch.
Have my senses gone haywire? Maybe being cooped up at home is doing that to me. Hopefully it was just some animal that had passed by. Plopping down the stuff on the table. Max came in and began hissing. "What? Are you really that hungry?" I asked as I began to prepare his salmon.
"No, you stink of dog" Causing me to laugh. He huffed at annoyance when I did.
"There was no way that I would since there was no animals near me except maybe a squirrel" Telling him and plopped the salmon to cook. Quickly walking over to him and rubbing his black fluffy head. "Go shower before touching me." And off he disappears. Instead I began to put all my goodies away. Got myself something new to try, Potato chips. Might not like them considering how much they process their foods but it was going to be worth the try.
Finishing up and hearing the oven ding. I take out his salmon and place it in his plate. "Dinners ready!" I yell and go ahead and decide to shower. He is going to only keep complaining about some non-existent smell. But honestly it should help me relax being under warm water.
I played some jazz as I showered. Using shampoo that in my opinion a great invention by humans since they used to like rubbing fruits on themselves than to shower. Honestly they were pigs back then making me laugh since pigs where in some sense cleaner than them considering the way the species lived. Getting out and drying my hair. Maybe putting on some pyjamas will be comfortable.
Exiting the bathroom to my bedroom. I pick up rustling from outside. Taking a peak from the window and notice nothing. Maybe i'm still nervous about what happened. "Hot cocoa should do it." Muttering and go to the kitchen to make some. Max was licking his paw as I got in. His bowl was completely clean and he stood up and began to leave. "Thanks" he purred and went to his room to do what cats usually did or in his case, sleep.
Making my hot cocoa and sit by the kitchen window. It was finally dark and the stars were clearly visible. For a bit, my problems seemed to not exist as the moon rose higher.
